1 Game #22, Road Game #12 - Thursday, April 24th - BB&T Ballpark - 7:05 p.m. Durham Bulls (15-6, 1st, 2.0 ga) vs. Charlotte Knights (7-13, 3rd, 7.5 gb) RHP Matt Andriese (1-1, 3.79) vs. RHP Scott Carroll (3-1, 1.57) Tonight s Game The Bulls play the seventh game of their eight-game road trip, taking on the Charlotte Knights in game three of their fourgame set. Durham has won 12 of its last 15 contests, and enters tonight s game with the most wins in the International League, and tied for the most wins in all of Minor League Baseball (Triple-A Las Vegas, Advacned-A Visalia, Advanced-A Dunedin). The Knights - the Chicago White Sox top affiliate - snapped an eight-game losing streak with yesterday s win and sit in third place in the IL South. Dating back to the start of the 2013 season, the Bulls have gone 21-8 against Charlotte, while winning 20 of the last 25 contests between the two sides. About Last Night RHP Nathan Karns allowed a career-high eight runs in just two innings as the Bulls fell to the Knights 9-1. It marked just the Bulls second road loss of the season, and just their second loss on the road at Charlotte over their past 10 tries. Road Warriors Despite yesterday s 9-1 loss, the Bulls hold the best road record in Minor League Baseball, (minimum 10 road games played) and trail only the Milwaukee Brewers (9-1) for the best road record in all of professional baseball. Last season the Bulls went away from the DBAP, tied for second-best in the IL (Pawtucket, 40-32; Indianapolis, 39-33). Super Streaks This season the Bulls have had three players tally 10-game hitting streaks (OF Mikie Mahtook, OF Justin Christian, INF/OF Jerry Sands). Only six other teams in the IL have had one player record a hitting streak of 10 games or more, while no other team has had multiple players reach the 10-game plateau. Sands hitting streak is active, hitting (9 R, 2B, 6 BB) and is the third-longest active streak in the IL. Sweet 16 INF Cole Figueroa and OF Kevin Kiermaier have each reached base safely in 16 straight games entering tonight. Figueroa leads the league with a.479 on-base percentage, racking up 14 walks compared to just seven strikeouts, while Kiermaier is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak (11-for-34) after a three-hit performance yesterday. BULL-pen BULL-ying After tossing six innings of one-run ball yesterday, the Durham bullpen lowered its ERA to 2.33 (89 IP, 23 ER). Despite throwing 12 fewer innings than the starting rotation, the bullpen has struck out four more batters ( ), while posting a WHIP of 1.03 (54 H, 38 BB). The squad has gone 5-1, with the only loss attributed to C Mayo Acosta, who allowed three runs in two innings in a 9-6 loss to Norfolk on 4/16 when the Bulls ran out of pitchers. Leeeeeeee s Baaaaaaack After missing 148 games because of various injuries, INF Hak-Ju Lee returned to play for the Bulls after a 368 day lay off yesterday. In his first game since 4/20/13 vs Norfolk, the South Korean batted ninth and played shortstop, going 0-for-2 but earning a walk and scoring the Bulls only run. He suffered a torn ligament in his left knee that ended his 2013 season, and sustained a left calf injury late in 2014 Spring Training. He s ranked the No. 2 prospect in the Rays system by Baseball America. Breakfast and Baseball Yesterday s contest was the second of six games the Bulls will play before 12 p.m. in This year the squad is 1-1 in such contests and since 2007 the team has gone in games played before noon. The six scheduled morning games this year are the most the Bulls will play in the Charlie Montoyo era (2007-present). Offense Wins Championships? This season the Bulls lead the IL in runs scored (105) and hits (198), while ranking second with 18 home runs (Toledo, 24). Additionally, of teams with 15 stolen base attempts or more, the Bulls are second in the league in percentage (15-19, 79%), trailing only Scranton/Wilkes-Barre who has successfully swiped 15 of 17 bags (88%).
