1 Game #7, Home Game #1, Thursday, april 11th Durham Bulls Athletic Park Durham, NC 6:35 PM Columbus Clippers (4-3, 1st/West, +0.5 GA) at Durham Bulls (2-4, 3rd/South, -3.5 GB) LHP Sean Brady (0-0, ---) vs. RHP Andrew Moore (0-1, 18.90) Today's Game The Durham Bulls will play their first game of the season at Durham Bulls Athletic Park as they face off against the Columbus Clippers for game one of a four game series. Righthander Andrew Moore makes his second start of the season and will face off against Clippers left-hander Sean Brady, who will make his first Triple-A start of the season. Last Time Out The Bulls snapped a two game losing streak, winning 3-0 in the series finale against the Gwinnett Stripers. Jake Faria pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven, while the entire pitching staff combined to issue no walks. Andrew Velazquez picked up his team leading ninth RBI and the Bulls tallied four hits and two runs off the rehabbing Mike Foltynewicz. Bulls vs. Clippers In 2018, the Bulls went 2-5 against the Clippers, with one game cancelled due to weather. The Bulls offense was lifted by catcher Adam Moore, who tallied six RBI s over the seven games played. Despite being shutout in three of seven games, the Bulls still notched 36 runs, thanks to nine and 15-run victories over the course of the season againt the Clippers. Columbus starter Adam Plutko recored two of his seven wins to pace the Clippers pitching staff in the season series. Bull-et Points Andrew Velazquez hit a home run in the first at-bat of the season. The last time this occurred was in 2017, when Johnny Field opened the season with a home run at Gwinnett. Velazquez set a career high in RBI s with five on April 4th. After tallying just two four-hit games in his career, Velazquez recorded two four-hit games on back-to-back days (April 4th-April 5th). Jake Cronenworth tied his career high in hits with four on April 5th and April 6th, marking the first he s accomplished this since 2016 with Bowling Green (A) Cronenworth and Nick Solak extended their season-opening hit streaks to six games on Tuesday. Solak and Mike Brosseau have each recorded their first Triple-A hits, RBI s and home runs this year. Nate Lowe hit his second home run on April 7th in just four games, the fastest he has ever reached this mark. Lowe hit 27 home runs last season. The Bulls pitching staff did not walk a batter on April 9th, the first time that s been done since Game Three of the Governors Cup Finals against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on September 13th, The 11 runs by the Bulls offense is the most on Opening Day since 2013 (11 at Norfolk). The Bulls feature three players ranked in the Rays Top 30 Prospects by MiLB.com including Nate Lowe (#8), Nick Solak (#12) and Colin Poche (#17). Homecoming Quinton McCracken returns to Durham Bulls Athletic Park for the first home game as a coach, after spending the 2000 season with the team as a player. A veteran of 12 Major League seasons, McCracken was a part of the 1998 inaugural Tampa Bay Devil Rays team, and spent three seasons in the Devils Rays system. McCracken hit.260 with two home runs and 28 RBI s in 85 games with the Bulls. McCracken is also a local product, having attended Duke University prior to his Major League career. McCracken joins the Bulls after spending 2018 with the Miami Marlins as a Minor League Coordinator. Beforehand, McCracken spent six seasons with the Houston Astros as the Director of Player Personnel. Turning the Corner After starter Ryan Merritt left his start on April 8th after 0.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits, the Bulls pitching staff has turned a corner. Over 16.2 innings since, the Bulls pitching staff has combined to allow 10 hits, one earned run, while walking just two batters and striking out 21. Starter Jake Faria pitched the Bulls best start of the season on April 9th, going five scoreless innings and striking out seven. Spreading The Wealth The Bulls offense is prolific and much of it has to do with how well-rounded the lineup is. Six players are hitting over.350 and five different players have tallied at least one home run. Nine of the 13 players have notched an extra-base-hit, 12 of the 13 position players have recored a hit and all 13 have reached safely in the first six games. Leadoff hitter Andrew Velazquez leads the team in RBI s with nine and the power hitters Nate Lowe and Mike Brosseau have combined for four home runs and 10 RBI s, providing a fearsome middle of the order. That is on top of Jake Cronenworth, who leads the International League in several categories including batting average (.577), hits (15) and doubles (6), while ranking second in total bases (21). Note-A-Bulls Infielder Jake Cronenworth was named the International League s Batter of the Week on April 8th. Cronenworth went 13-for-18 with three RBI s, five doubles and eight runs scored over four games against the Charlotte Knights. The award is the first of it s kind for Cronenworth, who has never won a Batter of the Week honor. However, Cronenworth has won Midseason All-Star honors in the New York-Penn League (2015), Midwest League (2016) and Florida State League (2017). 19 BY THE NUMBERS Place in Southern Div 3rd Games Ahead (Division) -- Games Behind (WC) -2.5 Current Streak 1 W Home 0-0 Road 2-4 vs. RHP (starter) 2-2 vs. LHP (starter) 0-2 vs. South Division 2-4 vs. North Division 0-0 vs. West Division 0-0 Day 1-1 Night (5:05+) 1-3 Extra Innings 0-0 Shutouts 0-0 One-Run Games 0-1 Three or fewer 1-2 Four or more 1-2 Scoring First 2-3 Opponent Scores First 0-1 Leading after Trailing after Tied after Series Openers 0-2 Series Finales 1-1 Rubber Matches 0-0 Doubleheader Games 0-0 Sweep/Swept/Split 0/0/0 2-Game Series (W/L/T) 0/0/1 Sweep/Swept 0/0 3-Game Series 0-0 Sweep/Swept 0/0 4-Game Series (W/L/T) 0/1/0 5-Game Series 0-0 Sweep/Swept 0/0 Monday 0-1 Tuesday 1-0 Wednesday 0-0 Thursday 0-1 Friday 0-1 Saturday 1-0 Sunday April May 0-0 June 0-0 July 0-0 August 0-0 September BULLS vs. CLIPPERS Overall 0-0 DBAP 0-0 Huntington Park Head-to-Head 2-5 BULLS ALL-TIME RECORD Overall 6,552-6,219 International League 1,615-1,395 Upcoming Schedule and Probable Starters Date opponent durham Starter opponent Starter Time Friday, April 12 G 2: vs. Columbus Clippers RHP Aaron Slegers (0-0, 14.73) RHP Cody Anderson (0-0, 0.00) 7:05 pm Saturday, April 13 G 3: vs. Columbus Clippers RHP Case Sadler (0-0, 2.25) RHP Asher Wojciechowski (0-0, 1.50) 6:35 pm Sunday, April 14 G 4: vs. Columbus Clippers RHP Jake Faria (1-0, 5.87) RHP Chih-Wei Hu (0-0, 4.50) 5:05 pm Sunday, April 15 G 1: at Norfolk Tides TBD TBD 6:35 pm Tonight s game will be broadcast on Buzz Sports Radio: 96.5 FM in Durham, 99.3 FM in Raleigh.
