Pawtucket has former Bull Darnell McDonald and Marco Scutaro with the club on MLB rehab. The Pawsox have the second best ERA in the IL and their hitters have drawn the second most walks. Yesterday: The Bulls defeated Pawtucket for the first time in three tries 5-4 yesterday to improve to 4-3 on the home stand. Ray Olmedo s bases loaded single with none out in the bottom of the ninth drove home Robinson Chirinos with the winning run. Jake McGee (3-0) worked two hitless innings of relief for the Bulls to pick up the victory. Last Dance: It was Durham s seventh win in its final at-bat, and fifth walk-off win at home this year. Close Call: A total of 26 of the team s 56 games have now been decided by one or two runs. Durham is in those games. Struggle in Scoring Position: Including Olmedo s hit, Durham still went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position last night. Durham is 6-for-44 (.136) the past four games in those situations. Pawtucket struggled too going just 2-13 yesterday. Meanwhile, Pawtucket didn t walk a batter until Chirinos drew a free pass to start the ninth inning, and he scored. Setting the Table: The Bulls one and two hitters Desmond Jennings and Ray Olmedo combined to go 5-9 with 2RBI, 2R, and a BB. Jennings doubled, homered and scored twice and now leads the IL with 42 runs scored. Carter Crushing: Chris Carter added to his team lead in RBI yesterday picking up two in the game, making him the first Bull to hit the 40 RBI mark this season. He is tied for 3 rd in the IL in RBI. Going Deep: Chris Carter and Desmond Jennings both homered yesterday for the Bulls giving them 29 home runs in 28 home games. Durham did not allow a home run yesterday for the first time in their series with Pawtucket. National Exposure: Yesterday s game was carried on NESN, while today s contest will be shown across the country on MLB Network. Spectacular Swindle: RJ Swindle worked 0.2 innings yesterday without allowing a hit. He has not surrendered a hit in 4.1 innings (4APP), or a run in 8.2 innings (7APP). South Story: Gwinnett defeated Buffalo 7-5 and with Durham winning, the teams remain separated by three games. Durham s largest lead is four. The Bulls have been at least tied atop the South Division every day since May 2 nd. Allowed all three of his runs in his final inning against Gwinnett in a day game on Sunday in his first start. Battled through five innings in his second start, and his third. Then had the longest outing by a Durham starter this year, going 7.0 innings. In his next outing, left after warming up in the sixth with back tightness. Returned to throw his first quality start (3 ER or less, 6 IP or more), and followed it up with one more in his next outing. His next two starts were interrupted by rain (vs Louisville) and back discomfort (last GS at Columbus) before returning his last time out against Toledo DURHAM RUN SUPPORT (reg. season): 2.8 RECORD WHEN STARTS: : Began the season in Korea pitching for the LG Twins and going 0-6 with a 7.68 ERA in nine starts before being released by the team. He returned to North America for the remainder of the season and split time between Mexico and the Dodgers system, Allowed just one run in two of his three starts in Mexico pitching for Monterrey. He pitched into the sixth inning or better in all four of his starts for the Albuquerque Isotopes, with his best starting coming in his last outing. He earned the victory against Round Rock on September 5, pitching seven innings while allowing just one earned run. He struck out a season-high 10 batters at Oklahoma City on August 26. He did not allow a home run to a left-handed hitter in 41.1 innings of work in the Mexican and Pacific Coast Leagues. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: Began the 2009 season with Sacramento of the PCL before being promoted to Oakland on May 23 and remaining there the rest of the season. He allowed only four home runs in 26 appearances for Oakland, six of them as a starter while holding right handed hitters to a.230 batting average. Earned his only win of the 2008 season against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 24, while pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 2007 he set a career high for MLB wins with eight and innings pitched (102.0), and started a season in the major leagues for the first time. He is from Hazelton, PA, the same hometown as Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon and he played his high school baseball at Joe Maddon Field.
