1 Tuesday, June 20, :08 p.m. CT Principal Park Des Moines, Iowa Game #69 Road Game #45 Omaha Storm Chasers (35-33) LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (3-1, 2.97) SERIES AT A GLANCE Omaha & Iowa face off for the 1st time this season at Principal Park. The Chasers are coming off a 2-2 series split in Oklahoma City, while the I-Cubs split their 4-game set in Nashville. Omaha & Iowa split their 16 matchups last season, with the Chasers topping the I-Cubs in 5 of 8 contests at Principal Park, including a series win between 7/4-6. June 17 marks the latest date for the 1st matchup of a season between these 2 squads since June 21, 2006, when Omaha & Iowa did not face off until the Chasers 72nd game of that season. Since 2011, the I-Cubs lead the overall season series 54-42, though Omaha owns a mark at Principal Park. OF Billy Burns & Bubba Starling are the only current active position players on the Chasers current roster to have face Iowa with Omaha last year. INF Garin Cecchini in 14 matchups versus Iowa last year with Colorado Springs hit.333 (16-48) with 6 runs, 2 doubles, 1 HR & 10 RBI. STORM STORIES Chasers hurlers had combined to allow 116 runs this month, the 2nd-most in MiLB, prior to yielding a lone tally in last night s victory. Omaha enters play today ranked 3rd in the PCL with 58 stolen bases in RHP Luke Farrell earned his 6th victory last night, placing him in a tie for 2nd in the PCL with 4 other hurlers. RHP Kyle Zimmer has allowed just 1 baserunner (walk) in his 4.0 innings of work since returning to Omaha from the Disabled List. IN THE END Omaha owns an 8-1 record in series finales this season where the Chasers needed a win in order to force a series split. That includes victories in each of their last 5 series-ending contests with a split on the line. The Chasers have lost just 3 4-game series all season, with 2 of those taking place in back-to-back series between 5/2-9, and the other the opening series of 2017 from 4/6-9. Overall this season, Omaha owns an 11-5 record in series finale matchups. IT S SO UNREAL C Cam Gallagher extended his career-high hit streak to 10 in last night s victory. Since the streak began on 5/25, he owns a.485 clip (16-33) along with 7 runs, 5 doubles, 2 homers & 9 RBI. Gallagher has driven in at least 1 RBI in 7 of those 10 contests, including 6 straight between 5/27-6/16, with that stretch the longest such streak by a Chasers batter in His 2017 batting average has gone up 63 points from.230 to.293, in addition to a 193 point OPS increase from.594 to.787. Going back further, Gallagher has tallied a knock in 14 of his last 15 tilts, batting.420 (21-50) with 8 runs, 6 doubles, 3 HR & 12 RBI in that span. I TRIED SO HARD AND GOT SO FAR RHP Luke Farrell s 8-inning outing last night was the deepest a Chasers pitcher has gone into a game since LHP John Lannan fired an 8-inning complete game on 6/16/16 at Oklahoma City. Prior to last night, an Omaha starter had not thrown a pitch in the 6th inning in just 1 of their previoius 9 outings. The rotation had also combined for a 2-7 tally & 8.88 ERA (76 ER/77.0 IP) this month prior to last night s game. It was also the 3rd time in 68 games this year a Chasers starting pitcher lasted into the 8th inning. The 8.0 innings were also a career-high for Farrell, besting his 7.2 frames on 5/23/16 vs. Albuquerque with Omaha. In 4 career outings (2 starts) against Iowa, he has posted a 2-0 record & 0.96 ERA (2 ER/18.2 IP). CHASERS BATTING LEADERS AVG R. Mondesi.329 Games R. O Hearn 63 At-Bats R. O Hearn 231 Runs R. Staumont 6 Iowa Cubs (30-41) RHP Williams Perez (1-7, 6.86) WELL WHAT HAPPENED WAS Chasers starter Luke Farrell was brilliant, retiring 17 consecutive batters at 1 point as part of an outstanding 8-inning performance in a 5-1 victory over Iowa last night. Farrell (8.0 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 9 K) earned the win & set a single-game career-high with his 8 innings pitched, while RHP Malcom Culver (1.0 IP, BB, 2 K) tossed the final frame. Iowa RHP Seth Frankoff (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) suffered the defeat despite a quality outing. Omaha 2B Dean Anna (2-4, R, 3B, 2 RBI) & 3B Garin Cecchini (2-4, R, 3B, RBI) each collected 2 hits, including 1 triple apiece, while CF Bubba Starling (2-4, 2B, RBI, BB) No batters from Iowa s side recorded a multi-hit effort, with 1B Chris Dominguez (1-3, R, HR, RBI) blasting a homer to end the Chasers shutout hopes in the 8th for the I-Cubs only extra-base hit of the evening. I M SURPRISED IT GOT SO FAR INF Dean Anna s triple last night was his 3rd of 2017 after totaling just 1 during the entire 2016 campaign. It was also Anna s 24th career 3-bagger. Anna had previously slapped 3 triples in each of his previous 2 seasons in 2014 & 2015, including with the Memphis Redbirds in the latter season. His single-season career-high is 5 in INF Garin Cecchini s triple last night was his 1st of 2017 after recording 5 with Colorado Springs in of those 5 triples last year came at home, with his only road triple coming on Opening Day on 4/7/16 at Memphis, a game which Anna started for the Redbirds, though he did not hit a triple in that contest. THINGS AREN T THE WAY THEY WERE BEFORE Last night marked the 1st time in 11 games the Chasers did not homer in a game. The club had left the yard in 10 straight contests from 6/8-18, matching their longest such streak in the Werner Park Era (since 2011). Omaha smashed 19 HR in that period, ranking T-4th in MiLB & T-2nd among all PCL clubs, with only Fresno (26), Fort Wayne (22) & Lake County clubbing more longballs than the Chasers. On the opposite side, Iowa INF Chris Dominguez s solo shot last night means Chasers pitchers have now given up a big fly in each of their last 10 matchups. YOU WOULDN T EVEN RECOGNIZE ME ANYMORE OF Bubba Starling has collected hits in 14 of his 16 June contests, batting.323 (21-65) with 10 runs, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR & 9 RBI. Since entering play on 5/2 with a.121 batting average, he owns a.313 mark (45-144), adding 20 runs, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR & 16 RBI. Starling has recorded at least 1 hit in 32 of his 39 games since 5/2, including 24 of his most recent 29. His 2017 batting average has climbed to a 2017-best.252 mark, his highest clip at the Triple-A level since entering play on 7/17/16 with a.273 mark after his 13th career PCL tilt. Through his 1st 68 games at the Triple-A level, he hit.164 (38-232) with 22 runs, 9 doubles, 3 HR & 19 RBI. IT ALL COMES BACK TO ME IN THE END RHP Malcom Culver has fired scoreless outings in 12 of his last 14 outings dating back to 5/9, a span of 14.1 frames. He has posted a 1.88 ERA (3 ER/14.1 IP) in that period, while notching saves in each of his 3 save chances. Culver overall this year has been successful in 6 of his 7 save opportunities & paces the club with 17 games finished. He & RHP Al Alburquerque have combined for 9 of Omaha s 12 saves this season.
