2 TROOP 108 NEWS Popcorn The Cradle of Liberty popcorn sale ended on October 26 th. Orders will be ready for pickup in November. Details forthcoming. Candy and Christmas Tree Sales Our annual Repperts Candy Sale is scheduled for November/December time frame as well as our annual Christmas Tree sale. Mr. Jenkins reports that he has ordered 135 trees for us to sell this year. We will begin selling trees after Thanksgiving. Every Scout/Parent is expected to sign up for a time slot to man the Christmas tree lot. Shifts are available every weekend and evenings during the week. These are two very important fund raisers for the Troop! Please participate and encourage your friends and neighbors to show their support also. Den Chiefs This year we have four scouts serving as Den Chiefs for East Greenville Cub Pack 244: Tyler Scardecchio, Chris Limbert, Trevor Schaeffer, and Nick Camarata. Joe Shermer is also helping out with the Tiger Cubs. Visit to Red Hill Cub Pack 170 Monday night November 2 nd Troop 108 representatives Lucas Snyder, Nick Camarata, and Joe Shermer visited Pack 170 Junior and Senior Webelos at St. Pauls Church and invited the Webelos to join our Troop at the upcoming Thanksgiving Feast. 56 th Annual Friendship Dinner Flag reports that the plans for the Friendship Dinner have been finalized. Save the date, Saturday night February 6, This year we have changed caterers to reduce the cost. Please plan on attending with your son and family Father & Son Camping Trip Moose reports that we have reserved Camp Turrell August 27 th -29 th for Troop 108 s Annual Father & Son Camping Trip. This will be the 52 nd year for the trip. We look forward to renewing old friendships and strengthening new ones for a great fun-filled weekend. Camp Turrell, is located in Cuddebackville, NY, just off of Rt. 209, north of Port Jervis. Camp Turrell features the 90-acre Beaver Dam Pond complete with swimming!

3 Scout Uniform Exchange - Do you have an old outgrown scout uniform? Or perhaps you need some scout shorts for the upcoming summer. Check out our experienced scout uniform supply at the Scout Hall. Troop Committee Dinner Meeting The Troop Committee Dinner Meeting is scheduled for Thursday December 3, 2009 at the Buckeye Tavern (formerly The Globe Inn) on Fourth Street in East Greenville. Reservations should be made with Flag. Troop 108 September Campout From September 18 th to September 20 th East Greenville Troop 108 camped at the Scout Cabin. The Troop played capture the flag before settling down Friday night. Saturday, the troop made MRE breakfasts provided by Mr. Merkle and made their way to the Morristown National Historic Park in New Jersey to hike the 10-mile Jockey Hollow Trail. The Troop was on the trail by 9:30 am and hiked for six hours. The Scouts all did well, even though the trail wasn t well marked at some spots. The Troop stopped to visit the Museum and viewed a film about the American Revolutionary War winter camp at Morristown. Scouts may receive a medal if they write a 250 word report and answer a questionnaire. The Troop stopped for dinner on the ride home, and everyone went to bed early Saturday night. Sunday morning Church Services were conducted by Jim and Jason Ritter. Apache: Robbie Jenkins, Vincent Landis, Lucas Snyder, Paul Chappelle. Cobra: Alex Ruppert, Chris Limbert, Logan Mauer, Trevor Shaeffer. Flying Eagle: Conrad Detweiler, Tyler Scardecchio, Chris Storrick, Justin Weber. Seniors: Cody Mauer, Paul Frey, Ethan Pusey, Jason Ritter. Leaders: Matt Tomlin, Jim Ritter, Dave Mauer, Rob Jenkins, Bill and Frank Bitterman.

4 Troop 108 Halloween Campout East Greenville Troop 108 held their Halloween Campout from October 16 th to Oct 18 th at the Scout Cabin. Friday night we checked in and played basketball and other fun games. Saturday we made breakfast, carved pumpkins and decorated our campsites for Halloween. After lunch everyone dressed in costumes and were judged by the Senior Patrol. Next we had the apple-ona-string eating contest. After the contest the Senior Patrol tested the patrols on their first aid skills. Jason R. had his leg broken underneath a fallen tree and the patrols had to rescue him and were graded on the rescue. After dinner we had a campfire with songs, skits, and cheers by the patrols. The Seniors then made the cabin into a haunted house. It had flashing lights, scary music, and all sorts of decorations. The best thing the Seniors did to the cabin was that they filled it up with fog. All of the patrols got to go inside and were attacked by the Seniors in their costumes. On Sunday we all woke up and got ready for church. After church we ate a small breakfast, packed our bags, and went home. President Gerald Ford Gerald Ford was the first Eagle Scout to become Vice President and later President. He began his Scouting career on December 17, 1924, when he became a member of Troop 15, sponsored by the Trinity M.E. Church in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award "for his service to the Nation and community," by the Grand Valley Council at Grand Rapids, Mich., in May He received the Scouter of the Year Award on December 2, 1974, from the National Capitol Area Council, Washington, D.C.

8 Parents & Scouts Information Center Please be aware that scouts are not permitted to bring cell phones, electronic games, or any other electronic equipment to scout functions. Parents, even if you allow your son to have a cell phone, they ARE NOT to be brought to a scout function. There is always an ample amount of leaders with phones in case of emergencies. If you have an address and have not provided it to the Troop please do as soon as possible. There are quite a few scouts that we do not have record of address. To save money on postage please send your address to (troop108news@gmail.com). Your address is is used strictly for scouting updates and information. Scouts are NOT to leave campouts before the patrol is checked out of their camp site. If a scout needs to leave early, then the whole patrol should make sure they are checked out. Parents, please do not come and expect to take your scout home before the patrol is checked out just because you are there early. IMPORTANT NOTES: Reminder! Class A uniforms are required for meetings at Scout Hall. Only trained patrol members can light stoves. Should no patrol members be qualified, please see a senior or leader for assistance. Parents Please be certain that there is always two deep Scout Leadership on-site before dropping off your son. Safety is our primary concern!! Permission slips are always required when individual Scouts have alternative activities or transportation needs. Slips must be presented to the Camping Leader upon arrival Friday night!
