2 DSC President's Message Happy New Year! Every January brings an avalanche of thoughts about the past twelve months and lots of exciting resolutions and plans for the present year; however, I must admit many of those personal resolutions will quickly be forgotten and the plans will soon become pipe dreams. Since accepting the position of president on July 1, I have thoughts of a half year gone by and of a new horizon full of possibilities. Random Thoughts: Ever wonder how often members refer to our website, danvilleshagclub.com, for event information, picture viewing or to download a form. You can even learn a new line dance or two with a simple click. At our Christmas party we had a visitor who found out about the event from our website and is considering membership. Over the holiday period I received a call at home from a couple who also found out about our club from the website. They are looking for a place to dance and plan to visit soon. Our website is an invaluable networking tool. Jerry Wyatt is our webmaster and operates from behind the scenes. Jerry has served our club in several capacities over the years including club president in 2005 and To update our site I merely contact Jerry and magically it's done without a hitch. Thank Jerry the next time you see him. While you're at it, don't forget to take a stroll around our facebook page as well. We're a shag club and a shag club shags. Although true, with this comes members who also enjoy other dance genres. My wife, Patsy, and I enjoy a brief twirl of swing, cha-cha, or waltz when the music is right. I see we are not alone. Ever notice at SOS how full the floor is when any line dance is played? I have noted your requests for more of this prior to our regular dance time at Santana's. It's always fun to see members gather and just enjoy each other. The recent MTASP and the Christmas party were two of those events which brought us together. Thank you from the board for such huge turnouts and for memorable evenings. What a blessing this club is. Many of you have requested a return to 2 Witches. So noted! And we hope to add other special nights. Watch those s and please plan to join in. Your officers will head down to the required ACSC Winter Workshop soon. Although the meeting day will be long, we always come away with a vast source of information. Hopefully, we can put it to good use and make our club stronger. On Friday, January 22, The Historic North Theater on North Main Street will host the famous Band of Oz! Owner, Wayne Alan, has partnered with DSC to help with the concessions. We will not dance that night in hopes that many of you will join us and make this a fun and profitable event. This could be a good fundraiser for our club. Hope to see you there. Details on their facebook page. When I took over as president I had our treasurer, Mark Hughes, go back over two years and list our regular Friday night attendance. I felt sure there were some patterns and we could plan accordingly. To my surprise...there were no patterns. When you come, you come. The next couple of months may be cold but never fear our hearts and feet are warm at Santana's on Friday nights. Come join your friends for a wonderful evening. See you on the dance floor. 6 Shagging at Rania s Restaurant Bar and Grille in Martinsville this Sunday January 10th. from 5:00 until 8:00. The month of January we will be off of our regular 1st. and 3rd.
