The five suspended editos have suffeed they have been suspended fom classes fo two weeks, they have had thei names smeaed thoughout the papes, they have seen the College suffe because of them, they have seen thei paents heatboken \ because of thei deeds and thei mistake will have a pemanent effect on thei futues. AMES, Iowa (ACP) aen't as many people actually "woking as you may have thought. At least, not accoding to this suvey included in the Iowa State DaHyj "The population of the county is 6 million, but thee ae 62 million ove 6 yeas of age, leaving 98 million to do the wok. People unde 2 total 54 million which leaves 44 million to do the wok. Then thee ae 2 million who at$ employed by the Govenment and that leaves 23 million to do the wok. Ten million ae now in the amed foces, leaving 3 million to do the wok. Deduct 2,8,, the numbe in state and city offices, and that leaves 2 thousand- to do the wok. Thee ae 26 thousand in hospitals, insane asylums and so foth and that leaves 74 thousand people to do the wok. But 62 thousand of those ae -bums o othes who will not wok so that leaves 2 thousand to do the wok. Now it may inteest you to know that thee ae,998 people in jail, so ^ Kat leaves just two people to do all the wok. And that is you-and me, bothe, and I'm getting tied doing eveything by myself. D. Gallaghe has made the decision, and ight o wong, we know it was not an easy one to make. Again, maybe we ae too soft-heated, but we think it was wong. At any ate, the decision was D. Gallaghe's we wouldn't like to have it on ou conscience. m The "List" and SC Fiday evening Student Council decided not to untable the pending esolution on the "Attoney Geneal's List" which was bought befoe it by the National Student Association Committee, and which ou SC epesentatives decided to discuss when it ejected an appeal of the ctyii on whethe the esolution -should be consideed. Two weeks ago the motion was tabled and it is now gatheing dust i* the f lies. Once again, it is difficult to impute motives to a decision by ou eps, but we can come to no othe conclusion except that, fo easons unknown to us, Council does not wish to act on the issue. We ae in favo of shot Council meetings, T>ut it does seem stange that on the evening the motion was ^abletf, ou eps adjouned at :8 and on the night they efused to untable it, the h^a^ng adjouned at ifc -Time, theefoe. was not the eason fo. the ^"tabling;" CoulcMt be possible that the elected epesentatives of the Student Body ae afaid to speak out on an issue which affects evey student hee? And this^esoludoes tuly affect "students as students." The esolution condemns the placing of oganizations on the "list" without pope heaings. The fact that no Bauch School oganizations ae on the List does not peclude thf-possibility of such an occuence. That we come into daily cqntact with people who may belong, on o off.campus, to an allegedly "subvesive" oganization, is a fact of life which we cannot escape. That these associations may be used against us in late life, is also a possibility. Thee is no doubt that this issue is highly contovesial and thee is no doubt that thee ae those who disagee with us on it. But Student Council, as the elected epesentatives oftfte students, mustspeak out, positively o negatively,"on the issue.
