3 Pago 2 THE ROTUNDA, WEDNESDAY, APRL 15, 1953 Whoeve stated the now familia saying "give cedit whee cedit i.s due" was a wise peson indeed. edit la now due to both the administation and students of LongWOOd College. What is ull of this ecognition fo? t all centes aound the Atist Seies pogams which have been pesented at Longwood this yeu. Beginning in Octobe, thee was a lectue by Ai..lack Kilpatick edito of the Richmond Sewn Leade. The Jean Kidman dance toupe was featued on Novembe 6; then, in Decembe, the Don Cossack Chous was pesented. The well-known oganist Vigil Fox gave a concet on Febuay 3; and just la i night the Mozat Ochesta was pesented to close the cuent Atists seies. t is not an easy task to secue good, well-ounded entetainment fo a college at the pesent time. When the administation was planning the Lyceum pogams fo this yea, they wee confonted with many poblems. They had to conside the type of entetainment that we as the student body would like and the cost of binging this entetainment to us. Hut despite these poblems, they have pesented live excellent pogams which included some of the county's finest atists. s thee a hope fo peace? With the actual signing of an ageement by the Allies and Reds fo the exchange of sick ami wounded pisones of wa and with this fact constituting the most hopeful news we have head in a long time fom the Koean font, many students have been ovehead expessing vaious points of view on this new situation. Some students have said that a full Koean peace is definitely in the making, now that the initial step has been taken. On the oilie hand.-many ae still dubious as to the outcome. Taking the human inteest point of view, si.me say that it is only natual fo the Reds to want thei pisones back as much as we want ous. Hut the question is, fo what pupose'.' One Student voiced the opinion that thee would actually be no peace if both sides eteated fo one mile (afte a signing of an amistice) and gazed ove the hill looking fo sudden attack fom the othe foce. Similaly, moeove, editos and columnists of both newspapes and news magazines have witten aticles concening aguments fo and against "chances of peace". The United States and West Gemany have cautioned the fee wold against any elaxation of vigilance in the face of Soviet peace poposals'," epots one columnist. The Pumvillt lliuld WEDNESDAY, APRL 15, 1953 Thank-You Peace? Recall fo a moment the excitement you felt when you beheld the excellent timing and hythm of the Don Cossacks and head the beautiful ogan pefomance of Vigil Fox. Do you emembe the gacefulness of the Jean Edman dances? The administation tuly deseves a geat vote of thanks fo the time and effot in planning the pogams fo the student j body, because it is evident that foemost in thei minds was the thought of binging to US the things that we would most enjoy. When we give ecognition and cedit, the student body of this College cannot be ovelooked. Without the students the Lyceum pogams could not have been successful. Although the attendance at the fist pogam of he Scies was not what it should have been, it is evident that the majoity of the student body has ealized b now that the pogams wee planned fo thei benefit and that it is thei esponsibility and, even moe so, thei pivilege to show thei appeciation and suppot. So to both administation and students a geat big "thanks" is given. Without the administation we would not have had any pogams and without the suppot of the student body, they would not have been successful. 4.) Amistice. Second, the ageement which was signed last Sunday means the etun of the fist feed Ameicans to the United States this month. Thid, 600 Allied pisones and 120 Ameicans wil be etuned to the United Nations in exchange fo 5,800 Communists. These epots ae valid easons fo optimism. Howeve, the Communists still will hold 12,000 Allied pisones. The United Nations, likewise, will hold 132,000 pisones. Of this numbe, howeve, 50,000 Reds do not wish to etun to the Communist goup. What effect will this have on the Reds? Will this exchange of pisones be meely an even exchange with no meaning? Time can only tell. Until then, the eyes of the wold will be focused on the Panmunjom negotiations and the futue wold peace. Seek and Appeciate We have at ou fingetips a souce of pleasue and satisfaction in ou daily lives. Suely the ability of many membes of ou student body to poduce excellent wok in evey at fom has been evident in many ways. Thee ae many examples the at exhibits displaying both paintings and cafts done by college students; the choi concets given by a goup of musicians that have eheased many long hous to poduce a good pogam; the student ecitals. Many weeks of pepaation is the task of the paticipant! in any of these, fo undoubtedly, they set high standads and must wok had to attain them. Yet few of us have shown the inteest and undestanding to attend, fo example, the student ecitals, although last Sundays pogam gave its listenes an hou of the seenist pleasue and satisfaction. Tomoow night thee will be given a moden dance ecital that is the esult of months of stenuous pactice. Some of us potest that we know nothing of contempoay dance foms. How will vou lean unless you see fo ywself, and then attempt to feel and undestand of this at? n ou college life we need to seek out the oppotunities to have expeince with dance, music, at. theate because these will bing geate meaning to ou lives, enich ou pesonalities, stengthen ou fiendships. Let us take advantage of the oppotunities pesented to us on ou campus and show ou appeciation of those who pesent them. Ochesis Pesents--- Ms. Landum Gives Advice Fo Appeciation of Dance Dance, like any at cannot be fully explained to be undestood. t must be expeienced.
