SG Messenger SG MESSENGER: Friday 9th June 2017, No PHOTOS FROM CHATEAU DE LA BAUDONNIERE (PREP 5 RESIDENTIAL WEEK) WE TOLD YOU... The first count of the 2017 election was declared at SG on Thursday afternoon, with Prep 3C's General Election signalling a hung parliament. Using pupils debated the key issues of the General Election and picked the policies that best suited their views. The computer then collated their answers and suggested where best to place their vote. Prep 3C's results were: Labour Party 37% Conservative Party 21% Liberal Democrats 21% Green Party 14% UKIP 7% 1
Headmaster s Scholar of the Week Summer Term Week 7 (9th June) This week s award goes to: RECEPTION S FIRST ASSEMBLY! Absolutely fantastic! Great wk Reception! Emmy Mitfd-Slade f excellent wk in Art. GRANDPARENTS AFTERNOON > Tuesday 13th June 2017, 2pm. SUMMER CONCERT > Tuesday 13th June 2017, 3pm. All are welcome to attend. CHARITY SWIMATHON: TAKE PART As you know, this year we have been suppting "Pchlight" and "Place2be" via several fundraising events and this summer, on the sunniest and warmest day of the year (because I've booked it with the local meteologist!) we are having a charity Swimathon. We would love to make this a big event and any ideas that you may have to help enrich the day would be greatly appreciated. Obviously we'll put aside several time slots f those parents who would like to hit the pool, but other fundraising ideas that could be centred around the pool courtyard area would be greatly appreciated. The bigger the event can be, the me money we will be able to generate f two fantastic and local charities. PAUSE FOR THOUGHT The date will be the 19th June and we'll have someone swimming in the pool from 6am right through to 6pm. If you have any ideas that you would like to put fward that will help, if indeed you would like to swim, then please contact Mr Smith at the school ( ) via at bjsmith@springgroveschool.co.uk 2
FOREST SCHOOL THIS WEEK The children completed 'The Wye Tree Trail' and learned about (and how to identify) 12 different trees from around the local area. They also took the opptunity to tidy up some of the graves of local men who died in the First Wld War. This was part of their studies into Wye's Fallen related to the Woodland Trust's WWI Centenary Project. DISPLAY OF THE WEEK This week s award goes to Nursery f their hungry caterpillar display. Well done Nursery; fantastic wk! CASTLES This week Prep 4 made some brilliant model castles. Outstanding wk Prep 4! 3

SPORT U9 Rounders V Lenden Match Repters - Mylie Wood and Emily Bg First Innings On Thursday, the U9 SG Team played against Lenden at home. Phoebe did the toss and unftunately lost. Lenden decided to field and the game began. We had some excellent batting from everyone and sced lots of rounders, although four people got out. We sced 7½ rounders in the first innings. Then it was time to field. I was the bowler and Elvie was the backstop. There was accurate bowling with a few no-balls. Jess and Emmy did some excellent catches and ended up getting five people out. Lenden got 4 rounders. In the second half, SG got 4 ½ runs and Lenden had 4 runs. Emily was the bowler and Elvie was backstop. Emily did some lovely bowling and Elvie was great at back stop. Lenden just couldn t seem to hit the ball so we bowled them all out. Emmy also did a massive hit and got a rounder because Lenden weren t awake at all. There was a very funny part when Abigail was running to second base and she grabbed the pole with her. Alice hit the ball quite far and went f it. I myself didn t really hit the ball but had to wait at first base. 3rd Section The final sce was 12 to DG and 9 to Lenden. Two of the star scers were Alice and Emmy. Emmy was the top scer with 4 rounders. The lady of the match was Emmy f her amazing scing. Well done SG. Thank you Mrs Langfd f coaching us and thank you Mrs Rawlins f a lovely match tea. MENDHI PATTERNS Year 1 have been studying Mendhi patterns that are a tradition f Hindu weddings. They have been learning about Hinduism in RE. In Art they also made their own paper hands with their own designs and then using face paints they created designs on their hands. 7

SG EXTRA WHY NOT COME ALONG AND JOIN US IN SG EXTRA FOR THE LAST FEW WEEKS OF SUMMER TERM With the weather now improving we plan to be outside in the Nursery garden most afternoons once the children have made and eaten there tea. On the afternoons if the sun isn't too strong we will have a picnic tea outside in the garden, which the children always enjoy. Children can play Sardines, Tag Shadow, throw ball 100, skittles, blanket ball, Boules. Or have the freedom to 'just play together.' Should the weather not allow us to be outside there will activities planned f inside. We will aim to do (time permitting) cooking, craft wk and board games on various evenings. Even though there are no particular activities listed this term f certain days, children still need to be booked in advanced please. This does assist with requirements f food and materials needed f the inside activities. This is most helpful and much appreciated. S G Extra is a fun, relaxed atmosphere that all children can enjoy at the end of a school day from pm Monday-Friday. Should you need to contact S G Extra from 4.30pm onwards. Our number is : otherwise please contact the office. PLEASE COME ALONG AND JOIN US. AWARD WINNERS 10
