1 Gentlemen of the BTC, June 7, 2018 Aw Shit! Here we go again. For the 2nd consecutive week we are very sad to announce that the Club has lost another treasure of the Club. Earlier this week, Frank Salapatek passed away. Frank was 93 years old and had been battling being very ill after a debilitating stroke for the last several years. Frank for many years was the bowling Chairman/Secretary and a constant participant with the Club events. He even had a hole in one at Old Oak with the Club while in his mid 80's. Frank also organized a large group of members to play golf on Thursdays at Deer Creek and he always found space for rescheduled Club matches that needed to be played in our events. The Thursday group was fondly known as "The Old Farts". A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 9th from 12 pm. to 4 pm. at his house in Blue Island. The address is S. Western Avenue, Blue Island, IL. He will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Salapatek family. You can t stop Mother Nature when she has a plan of her own. Jack Samoska traveled a long way to play in the BLEEPING cold and rain. Welcome back Jack! Next week Indiana Trip and good luck and fortune to those attending. An interesting story came out of our round yesterday. Myself and Bob Kennedy were in a match with which I had snap-hooked a drive towards a tee box to my left. As we pulled up to locate my ball the gentlemen on the tee box whom I don t believe were BTC members pointed to a ball that was just over there. As we approached I could see my ball was about 2 feet from some plants with a clear shot to the green. One of the gentlemen came over and told us that the ball was in the planted area a few inches in and dug it out for us or we would have not found it. Bob and I looked at each other in amazement and the verdict was I must take an unplayable. Here is the rule. The guys should have walked over and shown us exactly where the ball was without touching it. Now if nothing was said and a minute or two had passed and the gentlemen had moved on I would not have known the ball was unplayable and continued to hit my second shot which may or may not have altered the outcome of that hole. What if the match was over and we were in the clubhouse and then we were told by these gentlemen what had happened on that hole? Can you imagine the discussion that would take place? I believe the rule clearly states that you cannot touch another player s ball without their permission. No good deed goes unpunished Another question came up on where is the possum head skull that Frank Furman placed on a golf cart several weeks ago? Scott Lee found a very nice putter on the cart path. I don t know what Dan Podpora used to putt with for several holes.

2 Did everyone see the scorecards that were taped to the window in the clubhouse? A very nice touch provided by University Park. Woody may or may not owe the powers that be a little money from his round this week. After conning everyone that he was "blind" and couldn't play golf competitively anymore, Woody convinced the Officers (not the Golf Chairman) to adjust his handicap to a 36. Woody did not play last year, and this year couldn't break 110. The Officers fell for the con job and Woody proceeded to go out Tuesday and shoot a net 59! He won millions of $$$ and afterward was discussing moving to Key West permanently with his winnings! Can you believe the gall of him? He needs a slap in the head - Zilis said he will take of that. Will keep you updated on this situation. Jim (Ace) Sujka gave me a deck of playing cards used by certain members years ago with some interesting notes witch I will make sure the member gets them back. BTC Story of the Week: Comes from Anonymous. Swan Lake BTC golf trip about years ago. We would play Texas Holdem after dinner the first night. Dan Podpora had been drinking all day and now he just wants to lose so he can go to sleep, so he goes all in against three different players and continues to win hands. With only six players left he leans too much on one end of the table and all chips end up on the floor. After much discussion, the chips are reassigned and Dan manages to finally get knocked out and go to bed. He manages to make it to golf the next morning not remembering much about the previous night. Ron Miller wanted to remind us that the AED Machine is up and running. It will always be at the course we are playing that day.
