Not a very consistent round. The eagle was the high light of the round for Larry Foreman. The eagle was a hole-in-one on hole six. Larry used an eight iron from 158 yards. Playing with Larry was Lee Walters, David Patten, Terry Durham and Walter Jones. Walter Jones was trying to go between the pines at the corner of 15 on his second shot. The ball hit a limb pretty solid. Everyone was looking and listening for the ball to land. Seconds went by before the ball came down striking Walter squarely on top of his head and bouncing out into the fairway. Walter did you add a two stroke penalty to your score? Wes Hacker waited until the eighteenth hole to record his best shot. From 140 yards Wes used a 9 iron to make an eagle 2 on September 4th. Congratulations on a super ending. I hope everyone had a good summer on the course. I feel we had a good year with our greens and the entire course. We can always learn and improve each year with these new ultra-dwarf greens. As we saw with our aerification, the August process healed much faster than the April process. We may change it around next year and do one aerification instead of two. We would use a larger tine to remove the same surface area as two aerifications with the smaller tines. We have also come along way with the #4 green this year and will continue to micro-manage this green. We had some issues with our cups losing their edges and I feel we have improved this with aerification, verti-cutting and a little heavier topdressing. If you as a golfer would not pull your ball out of the cup with your putter, it would help keep these edges in tack. In late September we will begin the process of preparing the greens for winter play. This will include raising the cut height, which will have an effect on the green speeds. Nothing major but we could lose six inches to a foot on the stimp meter over the next month until we get to late October or early November when the grass slows its growth. This is something you will appreciate in January and February. See you on the course, Brian Long, GCS Please remember to make reservations for Parental Freedom so that we can be adequately prepared PRSTD STD U.S. POSTAGE PAID PERMIT NO. 491 ALBANY, GA 3800 Old Dawson Road Albany, Georgia (229)
