Little Green Street, off Highgate Road in Kentish Town, is one of a handful of Georgian streets in London that remain intact. Most of the dozen houses, built in the 1780s, are Grade II listed.

Formerly shops, they sold ribbons and coffee (luxury products at the time) and are a reminder of our Georgian past.

A small alley led race-goers from the pub across College Lane and into the fields beyond, where the Green Street Races were held. Little Green Street, off Highgate Road in Kentish Town, is one of a handful of Georgian streets in London that remain intact. Most of the dozen houses, built in the 1780s, are Grade II listed. These are rare treasures, because much of Kentish Town s history, including the now underground River Fleet, was swallowed up by the industrial revolution. Highgate Road also has a rich past. Until the mid-19th century it was known as Green Street as it led past Kentish Town s village green. Since 1700 it has provided fast access into London for commuters and shoppers alike and, before that, it was an ancient track that had long provided country traders with access to the Capital s riches. College Lane FAMILY RECREATION For families within Kentish Town, the area has a lot to offer. If you have ever been on the Overground and noticed horses near Gospel Oak station, you will have had a sneak peek at Kentish Town City Farm. Tucked in and around the railway, a treasure trove of wildlife unfolds as you explore. Children are at the heart of the farm, with a range of weekend workshops, an underfives activity room and a dedicated team of local young volunteers. Families love the sense of freedom that swimming in the open air brings a completely different experience from the indoor pools they ll be used to, and you ll be transported back to a simpler time with good old fashioned outdoor fun. Treetops, located within the local Talacre Community Sports Centre, is a magical, multi-layered soft play centre for children offering a colourful, exciting, entertaining and educational space. Kentish Town s arty reputation is well established and has attracted several more influential galleries in recent years. Annroy in Grafton Road is the gallery of the famous portrait and fashion photographer Rankin; The Beardsmore is a stunning modern art venue on Prince of Wales Road; while The Zabludowicz Collection a few doors down, is an installation-based art gallery that is set within a former Methodist chapel. Coffee at the Village Cafe The healthy life is easy to achieve in Kentish Town, with options for everyone on the doorstep. The Talacre Community Sports Centre is a major fitness hub, with a range of activities for children and adults including gymnastics, badminton, volleyball, basketball, indoor 5-a side football, outside 7-a side football and table tennis. If swimming is more your thing the fully restored Kentish Town Baths are a short walk away. These Victorian baths in Prince of Wales Road have recently had a 25 million restoration. More hardy swimmers can pound through the lengths outdoors all year round at the Parliament Hill Lido or enjoy wild swimming among the ducks at the women s, men s or mixed ponds on Hampstead Heath. For organic groceries head to Earth Natural Foods, based in Kentish Town Road or slightly further afield you can visit Whole Foods Market at 49 Parkway, a US chain offering a good range of organic foods, including a deli with ready-made food to go. Whether you re looking for bargains or gourmet ingredients, London street markets cater to all tastes. With a long history and a waterside location, Camden Town is an eclectic, busy neighbourhood dominated by the Camden Market where you can buy a huge range of art, alternative fashion, leather goods, food and home wares. Each Sunday, Kentish Town hosts a fully-fledged farmers market at Kentish Town CoE School in Islip Street. The venture is run by City & Country Farmers Markets, a small, family-run business that also puts on a raft of established events across London, from Stepney to Hammersmith and Alexandra Palace. Parliament Hill opened in September 2008, and has gone from strength to strength.
