8 DSA Dressage Judges Sub-Committee Update - What s Coming Up! 3-4 August: G & F Judges Seminar with Sue Chandler at Naracoorte 3 November: A & B Judges Seminar with Susie Hoevenaars (ESA office for the morning session, Tilling Hill (Echunga) for the afternoon session) Enquiries: Liz Duncan e.duncan@bigpond.net.au Stewarding Notes By Jo Crosby (FEI level 2 Steward Eventing, EA Steward Dressage and Showjumping) I recently attended a stewarding refresher, and one of the topics which created much discussion was Codes of Conduct. The Collins Dictionary defines a Code of Conduct as an agreement on rules of behaviour for the members of a group or organization. In sport these Codes aim to provide a fair and level playing field for all athletes and ensure the reputation and integrity of the sport is maintained. Dressage in Australia is guided by the FEI Code of Ethics and Equestrian Australia s Code of Conduct, and they make for interesting reading. These Codes don t just apply to athletes, they apply to administrators, officials, coaches, spectators, and in the case of junior sport, to parents and guardians as well. The FEI Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse is paramount, and states that the welfare of the horse must never be subordinated to competitive or commercial influences. This Code contains clauses relating to general welfare, fitness to compete, conduct of events, humane treatment of horses and education. The FEI Code on the Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions seeks to maintain the integrity of equestrian sports, and the FEI Officials Code of Conduct outlines the expected behaviours and responsibilities of all officials at FEI events. These FEI Codes are all to be found in the FEI General Regulations at: Equestrian Australia s Code of Conduct builds on the FEI basics and is quite extensive. It is easily found on the EA website: I encourage you all to become familiar with the FEI Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse and the EA Code of Conduct at least, and aspire to uphold them at all times. Whether you are an athlete, official coach or parent, we all have a part to play in promoting a culture of respect, fairness and equity in our sport, while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare in the treatment of our equine partners. 9 Mt Crawford Dressage Club From The Committee THIS ISSUE From the Committee Swabbing Levy Lights Triple Crown Final UPCOMING EVENTS 2018 Competitions Sept 15th - Charity Day CUR Oct 27th - Competitive, Participant / Para / CUR Nov 10th - CUR / eventing tests Nov 24th - Triple Crown Final FEI / Competitive / CUR Dec 8th - CUR 2019 Competitions Jan 19th - FEI, Competitive, Participant & CUR Feb 16th - Dawn & Dusk 2018 Training Days Aug 12th - Kirsty Van Loon Sept 1st - Lynda Smith All Entries via Nominate After a busy few weeks organising and running the Autumn Festival we have had the opportunity to take things a little easier of late. A wet lead-up week and soggy grounds led us to cancel the June rally, however the opposite was the case this month with spring-like conditions enabling us to run the Prix Caprilli competition postponed from last month. Riders contested a variety of tests from Prep to Elementary with poles on the ground up to 60cm. This is always a popular addition to our calendar and was ably judged by Barb Henderson. As well as Prix Caprilli riders were able to enjoy the sunshine riding regular dressage tests if jumping is not their forte. The next competition at the Mount Crawford grounds will be the Charity day in September. As most charities have a colour theme we add a little fun and novelty to the day by holding a colour parade during the day. This is your opportunity to shine and be as creative as you like, as prizes are awarded to the best junior and senior. Formal wear or club uniforms are not necessary at this competition as we encourage everyone to wear the colour of the day whilst riding their tests. This year we are supporting the Alannah and Madeline Foundation against bullying and the colour is purple so get creative over the next 2 months and show us a sea of purple to welcome in spring and of course your entries and donations will help a worthy cause. We are hosting the Prydes Easifeed AOR series at our October 27th competition. This is our first competitive competition after the winter break and will have Participant, Para and CUR Classes. Final Our last competitive competition for the year will be on November 24th. As well as being the last competition in the 2018 Triple Crown series it is also a State Squad selection event. With three Interstate judges officiating with our local judges all riders should compete at least once under one of our visitors. Hopefully we will get the much needed rain in the weeks to come, interspersed with some nice riding weather so that you are all ready and raring to go after the winter break. 10 CONTACT US Via Facebook: Mt Crawford Dressage Club address: Postal Address: PO Box 568 Birdwood SA / 18 COMMITTEE President: Veronica Hannam Vice Pres.: Caroline Dear Treasurer: Craig Hannam Secretary: Tori Watkin Chris Kelly Jacquie Selles Julie Hobson Kaitlin Petney Kass Dalitz Shelley Arnold Tina Grech LIFE MEMBERS Jane Bush (Patron) Chris Hill Lily McKenzie-Smith Bill Henderson Veronica Hannam MCDC is committed to horse welfare and an even playing field for all. Consequently we do not endorse the use of substances that could be detrimental to our equine partners. After much discussion about how to achieve this objective, we believe we have found a way that does not cause a financial burden for riders at one particular event and keeps the process random. Therefore, as of 1 July 2018, MCDC will be introducing a small $1 swabbing levy for all combinations entered in any of our events. This will be effective from our next competition in July. We envisage it will take approximately twelve months to raise the necessary funds to conduct swabbing at one of our events and when swabbing does occur, it will be conducted randomly and as per EA rules. We hope that by sharing the load across all riders at every competition, we can keep the financial impact on each rider small, but have a positive impact on the welfare of our horses and fairness in competition. Thank you to all those who provided feedback on this initiative, such a positive response is encouraging for our sport. AMAZING NEWS!!! MCDC are now the proud owners of four 18 m light towers with lights. Thanks must go to the club members who responded to our call for help to find transport to move these very long towers. Light Towers Swabbing Levy SUB-COMMITTEES Training Days Major Events Policies & Procedures Strategic Planning Clubs rely on the generosity of local businesses to help out and this was the case here where club member Emma Peach arranged for K L Brittain's Transport Services to move and deliver the towers for us. Many thanks to K L Brittain s Transport Services for your support of our club. A final thank you to Bill for coming out with his tractor to help with the unloading!! We will now go through the Council approval process to get them installed so we will keep you posted. 10 Moving Forward August / September 2018

Megan and Liam, the amazing team at Horizon Show Jumps, made the trek from Taradale, Victoria to hand deliver our Show Jumps. I can not recommend their customer service and quality product enough. We are now looking forward to offering Combined Training and Show Jumping events. We are also very excited about our club s purchase of a rideon mower to pull our arena rake! Previously Committee members have had to use their cars to pull a homemade rake to groom our arena. Now we can tow our Greystone Arena Rake with our new mower. Making the club self-sufficient has been a big focus this year so that any volunteers are able to come and do any jobs that need doing. We are in the process of finalizing the details of the 2019 Come See Change Masters Games Equestrian being hosted by our club on the 6th and 7th of April 2019 at our lovely grounds at Murray Town Oval. 32 The Mid South East Dressage Club joined with the South Eastern Dressage Association to produce an Interclub competition, fighting it out for the title of the South East. Hygain joined us as our major sponsors and the competition was therefore named the HYGAIN SE SHOWDOWN. This is the second year of competition with MSEDC winning last year. Scores were collected by all competitors over the four rounds of competition. The best 6% of scores from both clubs determined the Round winners. A massive congratulations to SEDA for winning this year s HYGAIN SE SHOWDOWN! We also had Champions and Reserve Champions for each level. To be eligible for the Championship, you needed to ride in at least six of the eight tests available over the four months of competition. Unfortunately SEDA s Round 3 was cancelled due to extreme weather conditions and the wetness of their grounds. Those who had entered Round 3 but had only ridden at two other competitions were still eligible to be in the running for the Championship at their level. Massive congratulations go to all winners. Thank you Hygain for supporting the 2018 SE Showdown. We appreciate your support. Thank you to all helpers, judges, pencillers, competitors, supporters and the hard working Committees of SEDA and MSDEC. 32 Moving Forward August / September 2018
