1 September 2012 CTF CONNECTION Published by the Canadian Tenpin Federation, Inc. Fédération Canadienne des Dix-Quilles, Inc GEORGE LAMBERT IV MAKES HISTORY AT 2012 PABCON CHAMPIONSHIPS George Lambert IV formerly Hamilton, ON and now living is Texas, made history by becoming the first bowler to bowl a perfect game in the Masters final at a PABCON championships. George defeated Frankie Colon, Puerto Rico to win the gold medal when he bowled a perfect game in the final stage of the Masters event at the 2012 PABCON and s Championships held at Sunset Station Strike Zone in Henderson, Nevada a suburb of Las Vegas. Frankie earned the silver medal. The Masters is played in 3 stages. The top 24 All Events men and women advance to the Masters Event. They play 6 more games with the scores added to their totals. A cut is then made to the top 8 bowlers who play in Stage 2 match play against each of the 8 players.the top 4 advance to Stage 3 with #1 playing #4 and #2 versus #3 with the winners advancing to the finals and the losers each receiving a bronze medal. George, Dan MacLelland, Montreal, QC, Patrick Girard, Jonquiere, QC and Jean Sebastien Lessard, Quebec City, QC and Mark Buffa, Montreal, QC advanced to Stage 1. Mark advanced when those who finished above him, were unable to continue. After Stage 1, George and Dan advanced to Stage 2. Patrick finished 10 th, Jean Sebastien 20 th and Mark 24 th pin count from all previous games was carried forward. In a very exciting finish, the Canadians thought George missed Stage 3 finishing 5 th. It was then discovered that John Janawicz, USA, who had won gold in the s singles, had missed his spare in the 10 th frame and George was 4 th!! USA pros Tommy Jones, was #1, Bill O Neill #2 and Frankie Colon, Puerto Rico was #3. Frankie defeated Bill and George defeated Frankie Bill and Tommy both earned bronze. Three Canadian women made the top 24 and made it to Stage 1 of the Masters. Caroline Lagrange, Montreal, QC finished 12 th, Isabelle Rioux, Trios Rivieres, QC was 14 th and Samantha How formerly of Calgary, AB and now living in Portland, Oregon, finished 17 th. The perfect 300 was George s second 300 of the championships. He bowled his first 300 in the 1 st game of the trios event to lead his team-mates Mark Buffa, Montreal, QC and Jean Sebastien Lessard, Quebec, QC to the gold medal. It was a great victory for the Canadians watching but none more than men s coach Tyrel Rose. To quote from Tye s blog Gold Medal Bowling regarding the PABCON Masters - Let s back up to a history lesson. Most followers of this blog know the story of when I knew I wanted to coach. Coincidentally, it was also the last time George won a gold medal. It was in the Masters event at the Commonwealth Bowling Championships in

2 2005 when Team Canada didn t send a coach and I was standing behind him as the acting coach. Yesterday he was still a player and I was now a real coach, and I got to stand behind him to talk to him between shots and witness one of the all-time great performances. Canada s third medal of the championships was a Bronze won by Caroline Lagrange and Samantha How. Other team members were: Michael Schmidt, Winnipeg, MB for the men and Jennifer Park, Nanaimo, BC, Jo-Ann Sanesac, Napierville, QC and Felicia Wong, Calgary, AB for the women. CTF Hall of Fame member, Craig Woodhouse, St. Catharines, ON, coached the Dominican Republic to its first team medal since 1989 in Wichita, Kansas. Dominican Republic s Manny Fernandez bowled one of the 4 perfect games in the tournament to lead his team to the bronze medal in the team event. The championship was a qualifier for the WTBA championships which will be held at the same venue in Eight countries plus the host USA are eligible to compete. The PABCON (American Zone) qualifiers for men and women are: Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Medal totals: U.S.A. The Bowlers Journal Cyber report recently reported on a major expansion at the Bingermans conference and recreation complex in Kitchener, ON. The facility will add 28 Brunswick lanes Kingpin Bowlounge which will feature a state-of-the-art environment for both casual and league play.
