4 CAMPING FOR EVERYONE All Scout units are encouraged to camp. Packs, Troops, Crews and Posts can stay the entire weekend with the proper leadership. Plan to camp as a unit. MIDWAY Walk the midway and see all of the exciting hands-on displays and activities. FLAG RETIREMENT This will be open from 12:30pm-3:00pm. If your troop has a flag that is in need of being retired or if your boys just want to participate in a retirement join us in the main activity field. We will have an honor guard stationed there for this time that will help your boys. If you don t have a flag to retire but want to participate we will have flags on hand. CUB SCOUT PROGRAM This year we will have activity stations set up for Cub Scouts. In addition, the U.S. Sportsman Alliance is sponsoring many activities at Patriot Games. Cubs who complete each station and have their participation card checked off will receive a free Trailblazer sticker. Activities will include archery, BB guns, fishing (casting) and more! (See Page 6) BOY SCOUT COMPETITIONS Boy Scouts will have their own area for events and activities this year. There will be stations set up with patrol events that will both challenge and excite your Scouts. (See page 7 for event descriptions) JAMBOREE ON THE AIR WILL BE AT THIS YEAR S PATRIOT GAMES! The Jamboree-on-the-Air, or JOTA, is an annual Scouting event that uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world, around the nation, and in your own community. Held on the third full weekend of October each year, this worldwide jamboree requires no travel, other than to a nearby radio amateur s ham shack. 6 CUB SCOUT PROGRAM The U.S. Sportsman Alliance is sponsoring many activity stations at Patriot Games. Cub Scouts who complete each station and have their participation card checked off will receive a free Trailblazer sticker. Activities will include: Archery Casting (Fishing) BB Guns Fly Fishing PLUS, Cub Scouts will also be able to do many exciting activities! Cub Scout Events will also include: Climbing walls, Bounce House, and so much more!! Don t Forget to Camp! That s right! We encourage all of our Cub Scouts and their families to come out and join in the fun of camping. Be sure to check out the different outdoor activity awards that can be earned! 6 P a g e

7 Patriot Games Boy Scout Event Note: Unless otherwise stated, all equipment needed for these events will be provided. These descriptions are provided to help your Scouts Be Prepared. Where necessary, we have included equipment to be used and particular hints and rules that will help your Troop become familiar with the events. 1. All Aboard Equipment: 2-foot Square Platform or Tarp Description: The goal of this challenge is to get a group of people on the square. No one s feet can be touching the ground surrounding the square. Rules: Must hold position for 10 seconds & cannot lay (Dog Pile) style Alternative - Patrol Tarp Flip - patrol stands on tarp and has to flip it over without anyone stepping off. 2. Long Distance Knot Tying Equipment: 100 Foot rope; tree or post Description: Tie a clove hitch without getting within ten feet of the tree or post. Hint: One boy is the runner while others stand in place - timed event. 3. Trolley Race Equipment: two pairs of 8' 2X4s with ropes attached. Rules: Rules can be up to 4-scouts per "trolley" (1 trolley = two 2X4s with rope "handles). Scouts have to work together to go about 30 feet, turn around and come back to finish line. 4. Bicycle Slow Race Equipment: Bicycle, stopwatch, mini cones Rules: 40' course - Remain in forward motion and cannot put your feet down. Everyone in the troop can try it - pick the best time for Course Record. 5. Litter Race/Relay or "HAZMAT" Relay - either medical litters or the 12" square with various length ropes to transport hazardous material - either over a short obstacle course. Rules: Transport a coffee can with water (the hazardous material) over a course using teamwork. 6. Fire Building Various demonstrations and hands on of different fire starting methods. No rules just fun! 7. Blindfold tent set up Equipment: Blindfolds, a tent (standard BSA type tent) Rules: Blindfolded scouts will take directions from one un-blindfolded scout 8. Refrigerator box race Equipment: Scouts will "wear" a large cardboard box over their head and body Rules: Scout (or scouts) will run a designated course at the direction of their teammates. 7 P a g e

8 General Information: Registration forms are included in this packet under the Appendix section. Discounted Fee Deadline is Friday, October 2 nd. Camping discounted fee is $10.00 Day Visitor early fee is $7.00. Deadline for Unit Camping Registrations is Wednesday, October 7th. ONLY Main gate open for entrance onto Fort Knox for Patriot Games, please have patients with us as we get everyone on base in a safe and timely manner. Day Time Passes are available for Saturday, October 17 th. Pre-Registration Deadline for Day Time Passes is October 7th anyone not pre-registered by this date for a Day Time Visitor Pass will have to register as a walk-in Day Time Visitor on October 17th. SIBLINGS are able to participate if they are of Scout age (7 years old or in 1 st grade up to 20 years old). They are able to participate in events and activities that are appropriate for their age and not specific for Scout/Venturer members only. Only participants with wrist bands will be able to take part in the adventure areas. Chaffee gate will be the only gate open this year, we do not have access to the Patton Museum lot off 31 W. Everyone has to come on base through the main Chaffee gate, if you are over the age of 16 you must have a valid State issue ID. Check-In In order to make your check-in process a smooth one, please be familiar with the following: Prior to leaving your departure point, separate your travel vehicles into two groups: Gear vehicle and Non-Gear vehicles. All vehicles will enter through Main Chaffee Gate and proceed to Keyes Park. Groups of twenty-four people or less will be issued one Gear Pass for their vehicle. Groups with more than twenty-four people will be issued additional Gear Passes. Upon arriving at Fort Knox, follow the signs to Keys Park. You will be directed to the camping and parking areas. Gear Pass vehicles will be allowed in the campsite to drop off equipment. All other vehicles will be directed to the parking area. After the equipment/trailer is dropped off, Gear Pass vehicles must be moved to the parking area. Campsites will be numbered and will have a numbered marker. Upon arrival, units will be directed to a camping area and a specific campsite on a first-come, first-served basis, you will not get to pick your campsite. Multiple sites may be required by larger units. The Campmasters will be available to assist with campsite assignment. Once you have been assigned a campsite, remove the numbered marker and give it to the Campmaster. Make contact with your remaining party using personal communication devices and inform them of your site number so they may join you to help set up. Trailers may remain in your campsite, but all other vehicles must be unloaded and moved to parking area immediately. The unit designated registration person should then check in at Headquarters, pick up event registration information, and turn in any additional names and fees that were not pre-registered at the Council Service Center or online. Set up campsite. No vehicles will remain in the camping area. Send one Adult Leader along with your Senior Patrol Leader or Crew President to the Leaders meeting at 10:00pm at the headquarters tent. 8 P a g e

9 Saturday Day Visitors : Use the Fort Knox Main gate (Chaffee), follow signs to Keys Park. Check-out Before units will be permitted to depart the campsite on Sunday morning, their campsites must be inspected. Prior to the inspection, units should pack all gear and clean their site. When the unit leader has determined that the site is ready for inspection and the unit is packed and ready for departure, he should contact the Headquarters or one of the Campmasters in the area to request a campsite inspection. Once the inspection is completed, the unit will be permitted to depart. Uniforms Scouts: Unit t-shirts/activity dress is acceptable during the day on Saturday and Sunday. Full field uniforms must be worn for Saturday s campfire and for religious services. Clothing portraying images of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or other messages inconsistent with the Scout Oath and Law will not be permitted. Leaders and Staff: BSA or unit t-shirts/activity uniform are acceptable for the day on Saturday and Sunday. Full field uniforms must been worn for Saturday s campfire and for religious services. Adult visitors who are not registered leaders are reminded that this is a family event and should dress modestly. Curfew Curfew is 10:00pm. All Scouts are to be in their unit campsite by this time unless a program activity would extend that time. Lights out in the camping area will be at 11:00pm. Identification Wristbands will be used for identification of Patriot Games participants. In order to participate in Adventure areas, a wristband is required no exceptions will be permitted. Trading Posts A trading post will be located at Keyes Park selling Patriot Games merchandise and regular Scout Shop items. A pre order from is on page 22. Ground Fires Ground Fires are not allowed. Units must bring equipment needed for above-ground fires. The use of liquid fuel to start any fire is prohibited. Participants who are Out of State cannot bring firewood into Kentucky per KY State law to protect the park from insect/beetle problems. Wood must be obtained or purchased within the state of Kentucky. Scouts should not bring electronic games or game machines. Two-way radios, of any type, are not allowed because of possible interference with military and camp staff communication equipment. Firearms, fireworks, explosives, alcohol, and drugs are prohibited. Ft. Knox is a Federal installation, violation will result in your arrest. (Tobacco products in designated areas only.) 9 P a g e

10 Refunds A full fee refund will be made to an individual or group that cancels program attendance/registration, less a 15% administrative charge as long as a written request is made at least 30 days prior to a council or district program/activity. No refunds will be given to an individual or group that cancels program attendance/registration within 30 days of a scheduled council or district program/activity. Exceptions for medical situations or family emergencies can be made, but must be submitted in writing within 7 days after the program/activity. Fees are transferable to other Scouts but not refundable. All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing with a copy of the receipt or cancelled check. Camp Code Unit must adhere to campsite curfew and lights out times. Violators will be asked to leave. Scouts are asked to be courteous at all times. The Scout Oath and Law are to be your guidelines. Time Schedule Friday night campsite check-in can begin at 3:00 p.m. Staff will be on site until 10:00 p.m. to facilitate checkin. Campsite check-in will reopen at 7:00a.m. Saturday Morning. Arriving gear vehicles will be allowed into the camping areas at this time but must be removed from site to parking area by 9:00a.m. Equipment Please limit the amount of equipment used. Bring only what you need. Only one gear pass (See page 8) will be allowed per 24 participants. Additional gear passes can be requested at the leaders orientation meeting if circumstance requires it. Sanitation/Trash All units are expected to pack out their trash. A limited number of dumpsters will be on site in common areas for event staff and food vendors. Latrines will be located throughout the park in program and camping areas. A Scout is Clean. Report any vandalism. Vandals will be removed and possibly prosecuted. Electricity: Is not available in campsites. Safety: So that we keep our Scout safe we ask that your vehicle not leave Keyes Park once you have arrived. In the event of an emergency and you need to leave site, please let headquarters know so we can move you and your vehicle in the safest way possible. Wastewater Disposal: Please do not dump wastewater in public areas. 10 P a g e

11 Policies and Procedures for Patriot Games 1. Chaffee gate will be the only gate open, we don t have access to Keys Park off 31W Patton Museum lot. Everyone must drive through the main Chaffee gate. 2. Everyone in the vehicle over the age of 16 must have a government issued picture ID to access Fort Knox. All drivers must also have proof of current insurance and current vehicle registration. Please have an itemized list of your equipment. 3. Patriot Games fees include a Patriot Games commemorative patch and all event arrangements and activities. 4. Everyone must stay away from UNAUTHORIZED AREAS at Patriot Games. This is a military installation and safety as always comes first. 5. Only gear vehicle/s with pass will be allowed to enter the camping grounds Friday night. Other vehicles will be directed to the parking area. All gear vehicles must be unloaded and moved to the parking areas Friday night after unloading. Trailers will be allowed to remain in the camping area until departure on Sunday. All vehicles are to be out of the camping area by 10:00pm. 6. Parking staff are enforcing policies put in place by the Fort Knox Law Enforcement Command. Everyone is expected to adhere to the traffic flow and obey all parking and traffic policies as directed by the safety committee. 7. Water will be supplied, but each unit is requested to bring one gallon of water per person to Patriot Games. 8. No unit will be allowed to participate without the appropriate adult leadership; (troops two deep leadership: 1:8), (crews: two deep leadership), (Cub Scouts: parent and Scout), (Webelos: 2:5). 9. All campsites must be attended at all times by a responsible adult. Please remind your Scouts to NOT walk or run through another unit s camp site, if you must walk through please let them know you are coming. 10. Scouts should use the buddy system when leaving their campsites. All participants must wear their participant wristband at all times. 11. All units (Packs, Troops, Crews & Posts) will do their own cooking/heating of food and water with charcoal, wood or approved liquid fuel method. Open fires must be contained and above ground (no ground fires). No wood is available. All liquid fuels must be properly stored and maintained. The use of liquid fuels to start any fire is prohibited. 12. All units must pack their own trash out of Fort Knox. 13. A concession stand will be in operation throughout the day on Saturday, October 17 th 14. Units with members who have special needs and/or require on-site transportation assistance should contact Sarah Flowers at the Scout Service Center, (502) sarah.flowers@scouting.org. Because of the nature of this event these services will be extremely limited. 11 P a g e

12 Fast Pass Registration What is the Fast Pass and how do I get it? The Fast Pass Registration has been designed to better serve you and your Scouts. Below you will find a checklist for obtaining the Fast Pass. It will help to ensure a smooth and seamless check-in for your units. Please use this page to check off the items as you complete them. Submit your completed registration form prior to September 25, Attend one of the Orientation Meetings (dates on page 13). All changes to registration must be made no later than October 2, Once these three items are complete you will earn a Fast Pass for registration and will be able to pick up all items needed for the weekend in a pre-prepared packet at the registration table at Patriot Games. (Be sure to send the leader in charge to pick up the packet, as the entire packet will be issued as a single unit to one person.) Your packet will include: Participation Patches (as seen on front cover) Wristbands Updated Schedule Check-Out Procedures * Note: You must complete all items to obtain a Fast Pass. If you have changes to make after October 2nd, you will need to make these changes in the registration lines at Patriot Games headquarters. 12 P a g e

All vehicles are subject to search Things to Remember 1. Two Deep Leadership (minimum) who are properly trained must accompany each unit.(see #8 page 11) 2. If you are bringing a trailer, bring a content listing (inventory) with you in order to expedite getting through the Fort Knox gates. 3. Ensure you have a listing of ALL your equipment even if you are not in a trailer. Be sure to include all axes, hatchets, propane, etc. 4. To access Fort Knox you must have a government issued picture ID. All drivers must also have proof of current insurance and vehicle registration there is no exception. 5. Attend one of the Patriot Games Orientation Meetings. (list of meeting dates can be found on page 13) 6. Bring only the items needed for the weekend. This will ensure quick processing through the gates in case of vehicle searches. 7. DO NOT bring firearms, air guns, black powder, fireworks, or explosives. These items are not allowed at Fort Knox. 8. Parking staff are enforcing policies put in place by the Fort Knox Law Enforcement Command. 17 Paintball Release of Liability, Assumption of Risk and Agreement to Rules (Read Before Signing) In consideration of being permitted to participate in any Paintball and/or Airsoft activities including, but not limited to, playing, using the premises of, renting and operating equipment leased, sanctioned and/or operated by_ the Fort Knox Family, Morale and Welfare, Recreation, Community Recreation Division, I acknowledge and agree that: I fully understand and acknowledge that; (a) risks and dangers exist in my use of Paintball and/or Airsoft equipment and my participation in Paintball and/or Airsoft activities; (b) my participation in such activities and/or use of such equipment may result in my injury or illness including but not limited to bodily injury, disease, sprains, fractures, partial and/or total paralysis, eye injury, blindness, heat stroke, heart attack, death or other ailments that could cause serious disability; (c) these risks and dangers may be caused by the negligence of the installation, organization, employees, officers or agent of the Paintball facility; the negligence of the participants, the negligence of others, accidents, breaches of contract, the forces of nature or other causes. These risks and dangers may arise from foreseeable or unforeseeable causes; and (d) by my participation in these activities and?or use of equipment, I hearby assume all risks and dangers and all responsibility for any losses and/or damages, whether caused.in whole or in part by the negligence or other conduct of the agents, officers, employees of Fort Knox DFMWR, or by any other person. I understand that I am fully liable and financially responsible for the equipment issued /rented to me. I also understand that I am financially responsible to the field operators for the loss or damage of any such issued I rented equipment, structures or property of the paintball operation. Paintball Rules (1). Never fire a paintball at a person who does not have his face mask fully in place or who is not prepared for a potential paintball hit. (2). No continued shooting at a player who clearly wants to- surrender. (3). Never put any sort of projectile in a paintball gun except a conventional paintball that is not altered in any way. (4). No gun used at the field can be set to shoot at more than 285 feet per second. (5). Masks'must be kept down at' all times when but side of the'safe Zone whenever there is any chance of paintballs being discharged in the area. (6). Guns must have barrel plugs installed or covered prior to - being brought into the Safe Zone and at any time when the gun is not in actual use. (7). When a player wishes to drop out of play, the barrel plug must be put in the barrel and the gun must be held with the muzzle upwards. (8). Any services to a gun that requires removal of the barrel plug must be done outside the Safe Zone, with face mask in place, or the gun must be worked on inside the Service Center by field staff. (9). No shooting at wild life. (10). No shooting at cars, whether moving or when sitting in parking area. (11). No physical contact with other players or potentially damaging actions toward other players other than the accepted shooting of paintballs. (12). No alcohol or drugs allowed on the premises without permission. (13). Do not remove the C02 tank or air tank or other parts from any guns. (14). No smoking on field or use of lighters or matches except in the designated area in the Safe Zone. (15). No potentially dangerous gear. No types of pyrotechnics or explosives are allowed. All personal equipment must be approved by the game site operator and conform to the normal standards of the paintball industry. (16). Participants between the age of 12 and 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. (17). Judged decisions are final. No players will be allowed to argue with any judge I referee. (18). All players must follow all safety rules without exception. Any violation of these rules may result in that player being ejected.from play.
