10 2004 STATESMEN LACROSSE HOBART 13, Butler 3 February 23 BALTIMORE, Md. Senior attackman JOHN BOGOSIAN made a statement in Hobart s season opener, scoring six goals to lead the Statesmen to a commanding 13-3 win over the Butler Bulldogs at Johns Hopkins. Bogosian, who played a part in Hobart s first five goals, tallied the first three goals as the Statesmen jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first quarter. Junior BRIAN JOY, senior TIM BOOTH, and Bogosian all notched a goal in the second stanza to put Hobart ahead 7-0 before Rich Pavlick found the net on a man-up opportunity for the Bulldogs. Bogosian made it a seven-goal game again just 2:02 into the third quarter, with an assist coming from Joy. Butler scored again three minutes later but could not keep the Statesmen offense in check, sacrificing four more goals in the period. Senior goalie MIKE BORSZ played the first three quarters, making 12 saves, including six in the first quarter. Sophomore DAN VALENTE closed out the contest with four stops. Hobart dominated the faceoff X, winning 14 of the 20 faceoffs and grabbing 48 ground balls Booth and NATE HILL both had seven to pace the Statesmen compared to Butler s 32. HOBART 15, Holy Cross 4 March GAME SUMMARIES GENEVA The 25th-ranked Hobart lacrosse team notched its first Patriot League win of the season with a 15-4 victory over visiting Holy Cross. The Statesmen were led by the five-point efforts of senior midfielder KRIS SHORE and junior attackman DAN CESERE. Hobart charged out to an 8-0 halftime lead, with Shore netting the first and last tallies of the half. He finished with two goals and three assists. The other six first half scores came off the sticks of six different Statesmen. Senior goalie MIKE BORSZ breezed through the first 30 minutes, turning away all four shots he faced to earn the win. After the break, sophomore DAN VALENTE and first-year MIKE DESANTIS made five stops each, while both allowed a pair of goals. The Crusaders finally broke through Hobart s stifling defense 1:49 into the third quarter when senior attackman Mark Tarnuzzer scored an extra-man goal. He led Holy Cross with two goals (both man-up) and an assist. Hobart responded with the next three goals to take a comfortable 10-goal lead into the fourth quarter. First-year attackman MIKE CONKLIN recorded the first two to complete his first collegiate hat trick, while Cesere closed out the run. Cesere finished with three goals and two assists. The Statesmen outshot Holy Cross 55-31, and held a advantage on ground balls. Hobart converted 3-of-8 extra-man JAMES VanRENSSELAER A blizzard left snow banks around Baltimore a week prior to Hobart s season opener, but that didn t stop Tim Booth (#3) and the Statesmen from storming past Butler opportunities, while the Crusaders were just 2-of-10. Sophomore midfielder BLAKE REARDON won 7- of-9 faceoffs to lead the Statesmen to a 12-9 advantage in that category. Junior Brian Hodgdon made 24 stops in goal for Holy Cross. JAMES VanRENSSELAER Kris Shore was one of two Statesmen to record five points against Holy Cross.
