3 The Buffalo Sabres Foundation supports several community hockey intiatives and the Buffalo Sabres Thunder of the WNY Special Hockey Assocation, Inc. is grateful to be counted among these groups. With the help and support of the Foundation, the team has been able to further its goal of making the sport of ice hockey available to individuals with special needs. The Buffalo Sabres Foundation is a New York State not for profit corporation, qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and qualified as a public charity. The Buffalo Sabres Foundation was established in 1995 and reinvigorated in 2004 following the acquisition of the Buffalo Sabres by B. Thomas Golisano. MISSION Stimulate, support and encourage organizations that serve Western New York which are committed to youth hockey initiatives; the health, wellness and education of underprivileged /disadvantaged youth and military personnel; and physically and mentally challenged athlete, by providing financial generosity and other platforms for their endeavors. Through such support these organizations will realize their highest potential, thereby allowing their members to gain the confidence and integrity necessary to succeed in life. ACTIVITIES The Buffalo Sabres Foundation has been involved in a number of fundraising and community activities since 2004, most notably its annual Corporate Challenge Hockey Tournament, Sabres UnPucked event, Golf Tournament and Bowl-a-Rama. Since 2004 the Buffalo Sabres Foundation has raised funds through these and other activities.
