It looks like we will have a great group going to represent the county. Make sure you wear your 4-H shirts and let s go for the spirit award this year. I was extremely happy with our first leader training. I think it went really well with great attendance and conversation between leaders. Don t forget about the Livestock Workshop on June 24 at the fairgrounds. This will be your chance to sign up for the showmanship competitions and learn a lot about showing in the fair. Congratulations to our county Ross Photography Contest winners Avery Branscum and Kailey Crocker. They had some stunning pictures and will move on to the state contest. The Summer Stitches Camp is coming up and I am so excited to see what our participants create. It s going to be an awesome camp. We have also put together a summer Row Crop Tour with Conway County so if anyone is interested in that please let me know. Good luck to all our O rama participants and let s make Perry County 4-H PROUD! 2017 District 4-H O-Rama Good luck and thanks for representing Perry County! Considered a District Event We have nine 4-Hers attending this year s District 4-H O-Rama, Masquerade Unmask Your Potential on June 20 in Malvern. We want to wish the all the best of luck and we look forward to a great District O-Rama! Leader Trainings Thanks to St. Boniface for hosting our first Leader Training meeting. It was well attended and was a great training. It was held on Tuesday, May 23, Our goal is to have each club sponsor a training and move around the county so that everyone has the chance to attend close to home. The next Leader Training is set for Thursday, August 3, 2017 with Aplin hosting at 6:00 p.m. Thanks to Aplin for hosting the August Leader Training we really appreciate it! We are hoping to get some training in and also assist our leaders the best way we can. We appreciate all you do for the youth of Perry County!

2 2017 County Fair Rules: Perry County Fair & Livestock Show Eligibility Reminders County Event The Perry County Fair will be September and the theme is Hog Wild for Perry County Fair! It looks like it s going to be a good one this year. I am excited to be here to help all of our 4- H ers get ready. Here are a few dates and rules for the 2017 fair. Only bonafied 4-H members can show in the fair. The Extension Office will supply a list of eligible members to the fair board. To be considered eligible by the Extension Office the 4-H er must meet these requirements: o Enrolled in 4-H by June 1, 2017 o Attend at least 3 local club meetings between October 1, 2016 and September 1, 2017 o Attend one county, district or state event between October 1, 2016 and September 1, 2017 (what is considered a county, district or state event will be decided by the Extension Office). All livestock must be owned by July 15, All livestock must be pre-registered by July 15, 2017 (including poultry and rabbits). Showmanship sign up will be at the Livestock Workshop at the fairgrounds on June 24. Livestock Workshop and Fair Informational Meeting Considered a County Event 11:30 Lunch - bring your own or run to town to pick something up 12:00 Fair changes and informational meeting 1:00 Goats with M Patterson 2:00 Sheep/lambs TBD 3:00 Chickens and Rabbits with Tammy Wright Livestock pre-registration, scramble registration and showmanship signups will be available this day from 8:00 until the close of the workshop. THIS WILL BE YOUR ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN UP FOR SHOWMANSHIP! For updates be sure to check out the fair Facebook page at Perry County Fair Association. You can also check the Perry Co. 4-H Arkansas Facebook page. Arkansas State Fair The Arkansas State Fair is October If anyone needs to order animal ID kits, here are the deadlines we are looking at. Arkansas State Fair Market Animal Deadlines: July 15 Market Hogs, Lambs, and Goats Animal ID Kit Order Deadline July 31 Market Hogs, Lambs, and Goats Online Nomination Deadline July 31 Market Hogs, Lambs, and Goats DNA Submission Deadline A tentative schedule, general rules, open and junior rules, sale of champions and scholarship rules, and signature forms are available on the state fair website. stock-general-information A livestock workshop and fair informational meeting will be held on June 24 at the fairgrounds starting at 8:00. 4 H O-Rama Activities Senior 4-Her s!! Here is a list of state only activities for Arkansas 4-H O-Rama in August. Let us know if you are interested in participating in any of the contests. State Only: ATV Safety (2 individuals) Consumer Judging- Team Food Bowl Team FCS Skill-a-Thon Team Grassland Plant ID (2 individuals) Interior Design Team Livestock Judging Team Livestock Skills Team Parliamentary Procedure Team Photography Poultry Judging Team Reporting Tractor Driving Welding (2 individuals 4-H O-Rama Photography Contest received to contest headquarters by FRIDAY, July 7 th. A confirmation is returned to you within 24- hours. If you don t receive an confirmation, follow-up with me. Images will be evaluated and judged before State O-Rama. Judges will select the top (3) images from each entrant and determine the top five overall photographs. At the State 4-H O-Rama Photography Activity at Fayetteville, the top (3) images from each entrant will be shown and discussed. Your entrant should be prepared to comment on their own images, the camera and settings used to capture the image, and how the image relates to the contest theme. The top (5) award winning photographs will be announced and ribbons handed out. Cash awards are mailed to the winners at a later date. Ross Photography Contest Congratulations to Avery Branscum and Kailey Crocker our county winners! Their pictures have been submitted to the state level now. Kailey won the Living Color while Avery took first place in Living B & W, Non-Living Color, and Non-Living B & W. It was a tough competition and the judges had a hard time deciding! Record Book Workshops Considered a County-wide Event I m excited to announce the H Photography Contest is underway! UNMASK is the theme for this year s competition. 4-H Photography Contest 1st Place: $100, 2nd Place: $75, 3rd Place: $50, 4th Place: $45, 5th Place: $30. This is a seniors only event. Only one entrant per county Example: Submit a maximum of (10) images to: You will receive a confirmation when the files are submitted PRIZES - ELIGIBILITY - PROCEDURE - IMG0027.jpg IMG00228.jpg JohnDoe_AdamsCo_01.jpg JohnDoe_AdamsCo_02.jpg OR Mail a CD-ROM or DVD disk with a maximum of (10) images to: 4-H Photo Contest c/o Kerry Rodtnick 2301 So. University Ave. Little Rock, Arkansas NOTE: If more than 10 images are sent to the contest from one entrant, only the first 10 images will be judged. Rename the images to reflect the county of origin and entrant. All images should be We will be conducting quarterly record book workshops to help our 4-Hers be better prepared for record book submissions. Our next workshop will be Tuesday, July 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Houston Baptist Church. The next Record Book Workshop after July will be on Tuesday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m. at First Electric. Summer Stitches Camp Considered a County-wide Event Space filled up the first day! We are excited to get started! Hopefully, we will have more sewing camps in the near future. Call if interested.

5 Page 5 of 6 Pool Noodle Horses a Row Crop Tour with Conway County. We will head over to Blackwell and visit our River Valley Rice, Soybean and Corn Verification fields. Extension Specialists will be there discussing what all it takes to produce row crops in Arkansas. Please let me know by July 28 who wants to go. Pool noodle horses are easy, cheap and lots of fun! Materials: Pool noodles (I got mine at the dollar tree) Duct tape (I already had some fun colors the kids liked) Googly eyes (self adhesive worked great for us) Fabric scraps cut into strips Felt for ears Glue gun for the adult to use First use the duct tape to make the bridle and reigns. Add googly eyes. Let the kids pick out scrap fabric strips for the adult to hot glue on for mane. Hot glue on some felt ears. Club News.....
