11 MC Fleet 32 May Report Hmmm. Nothing to report on the home front yet as far as racing goes. Maybe next month after the Wednesdays start and we ve done the Windycrest Invitational. On the travel circuit Danny, Stephen, and Ian attended Spring DinghyFest at Rush Creek in Dallas. I think the final scores were Danny 3rd and Stephen 5th or 6th out of 15 MC Scows. On the MC course we did 3 races in winds that started at 12 and dropped to 4 from the north on Saturday. Without going to the blow by blow of each race, the keys for the day were: Race 1-recognize the WW mark was 30 degrees to the the right of upwind. Made for drag race tacks and jibes. Race 2- shifting gears in a dying wind, and Race 3 -Find and stay in the best pressure and dark water. Stephen really sailed well with a I wound up with a I am not sure how Ian wound up score wise. He was racing VX-1 s on a different course. There was buku charlie wind on Sunday morning but most boats had to see for themselves. Mark Marling and I went out and confirmed the solid north wind with 3+ foot waves. We got smart fast and came back in along with the Scot s, VX s, and E s. I can pretty much assure all three of us had a good time throughout the weekend. Later this month is the WIR here at the Club on the 21st & 22nd. Sign up. There is no charge for the regatta. So fix it and get out there. Or get out there and break it. Get out there and make your fleet proud of you. Be sure to register for the Steak Dinner that night. They only buy enough for the registered people, so No Registeree-No Eatee. Now as a final enticement to those non-racers, you can still do the dinner and enjoy a moonlight cruise, I believe it is a full moon night. Just be sure to make your dinner reservation. Before the next Windward is out we ll also of done the Orlando Webb Regatta at Lake Lotawana. The short drive to Kansas City is well worth it to race 40 other MC s in a stadium style venue. The racing area there is similar to if we set up racing in our cove. Different, cool, fun, and challenging. Still plenty of time to sign up for this one all you MC folk. Next up is a spiel on the Sail for Steve Regatta. I d venture to say that Steve Snider is certainly our most selfless and giving member. And far and way our most inspirational member. And he has ALS. The project he has asked us to support, the ALS Patient Services Outreach, is very worthwhile. (Please see their informative website at ) Every dime given goes straight to APSO to help ALS patients and families in northeast Oklahoma whom have slim resources to face daunting challenges ahead of them. Windycrest members have generously donated nearly $40,000 over the last 3 years to help build the APSO, which started in This year Steve personally invited a special guest to sail with us. Paul Foerester is a three time Olympic medalist that is planning to attend the SFS Event this year. To watch Steve work tirelessly on the regatta has been inspiring to say the least. Please start planning now to support, contribute, and participate in the SFS Regatta the weekend after Labor Day.
