1 Bega Valley Bushwalkers Walks program 2016 Note: there are often changes to the program throughout the year - check bvbw.blogspot.com for the latest information before each walk. For queries, contact us via begavalleybushwalkers@gmail.com or call the walk coordinator. Changes are usually notified via our list. As a general guide, "easy" walks are mostly flat on straightforward terrain, like tracks or open bush, but are harder than a stroll - please assess your condition before joining us: you should be able to walk a full day including some more difficult/steep sections. "Moderate" walks can include steep country and some bush sections without track. "Hard" walks will often be off-track through bush and include steep sections. Good footwear is important for most walks, but hard walks require sturdy boots and protection against scratches. Bring enough water for the day (at least 1L per person) and sun protection. Be aware that ticks and snakes are always present in the bush. Please discuss any health issues with the walk coordinator before the walk. The NSW "Walking for Pleasure" program requires walker registration each calendar year - forms are available from the walk coordinator or from If you have a query about a particular walk, contact the walk coordinator: Coralie Frew Diane Moon Eric Moon Fay Wellard Helen Turton Helmut Kerkhoff Ian Bovill Ian Burns Jan Porter Jeff Vaughan John Henshaw Kay Burns Keith Frew Lyn Evans Marie Oakley Mark Oakley Neil Porter Peter Guthrey Phillip Kendall Robert Lewin Tony Postlethwaite Ulrike Groiss Bega Valley Bushwalkers is not a club. It is a collection of addresses and addresses for people who have expressed interest in bushwalking in this and surrounding areas and enjoy meeting new people. There are no officeholders, no members and no fees. It facilitates sharing of information about bushwalks and camping activities so that interested people can experience new areas to walk in and enjoy the company of others on their walks. 17 January - Summer Walk - Wapengo coast Walk Coordinator: Peter Guthrey Meet: 10:00 at Intersection of Tathra-Bermagui Rd and Wapengo Lake Road Grade: Easy Distance: 5 km Description: Sand and bush tracks - chance of a swim 16 February to 19 February - Kosciuszko Main Range Walk Coordinator: Robert Lewin Meet: 12:00:00 at Charlotte's Pass carpark (end of the road, above Charlotte Pass resort) Grade: Moderate Description: From Charlotte's across Blue Lake and Carruthers, Townsend and Koscuiszko Expressions of interest to Rob per lewinr1@gmail.com 6 March to 11 March - Barrington Tops (week-long camp) Walk Coordinators: Lyn Evans, Phillip Kendall and Tony Postlethwaite Overnight Backpacking Meet: PM/evening at Polblue Campground, Barrington Tops National Park Grade: Easy/Moderate Distance: Several day and shorter walks (this walk description continues overleaf...) 2 Description: This is an extended camp in the Barrington Tops/Gloucester area throughout the week (Monday to Friday). The park is about 800 km north, so will require leaving on the Saturday and arriving at the camp on Sunday. How long you stay and when you head back is up to you. There is lots to see and do. Terrain: Walking trails and fire trails. The walks will be mainly easy to moderate on tracks. The area has spectacular scenery with sub-alpine peaks and valleys in the north, Antarctic Beech forests, waterfalls and cascading rivers in the east and south. Access is generally 2WD on unsealed roads but one walk will involve 4WD access, so high clearance vehicles are preferred. We intend to start in the north at a national park campground (pit toilets, shelter with tables and gas bbqs), then move to a caravan park in Gloucester and finish at a state forest camp in the south (minimal facilities). Caravans/camper trailers are OK although some dirt roads will be encountered. We will be doing day and half day or shorter walks and having at least two nights at each camp. Opportunities in Gloucester for shopping, fuel, meals out etc. No bookings are required at the caravan park for un-powered sites, but you would need to book powered sites/cabins in advance. Please let us know ASAP (philkendall@internode.on.net) if you are planning to go and we add you to the list for further details on how to get there, details on the walks, etc. If you require further information, please contact Phil or Lyn on Tony is the expert on walks in the area so give him a call on March - Scotts Bay - Bournda Lagoon Walk Coordinator: Helen Turton Meet: 9:30 am at Scotts Bay car park Grade: Easy Distance: 14 km Description: We will walk along the track from Scotts Bay through bushland to Bournda Lagoon and will then follow the circuit around the lagoon which has a variety of vegetation and terrain.
