PLEASE REMEMBER to carry protective clothing at all times as weather conditions can change rapidly, especially in the mountains. Carry drinking water and lunch plus extra food in case of an emergency. Wear sturdy footwear. 2. WALKS LEADERS reserve the right to change the walk route on the day depending on prevailing conditions and altered circumstances. Members and visitors must check with the walk leader that their fitness and experience suit the walk. A walk leader can refuse permission for any person to take part in his/her activity. 3. WALK GRADING a) EASY Relatively gentle grades. Suited to most people. b) MEDIUM mostly good surfaces, but with some rough or steep sections. Suitable for people of average fitness. c) HARD includes rough or steep sections some of which may require clambering over natural obstacles. Some steep ascents and descents. d) Long walks designated L ; Short walks designated S. 4. ASSEMBLY POINT for walks on this program will be at the TUMUT VISITORS INFORMATION CENTRE, Snowy Mountains Highway (shown in the attachment as TIC). Start times vary to suit travel distances. 5. FIRST AID KITS are the responsibility of each walker however the walk s leader will be carrying an emergency one. MEMBERSHIP SUBS due at AGM in June each year. Subs are $35.00 per year - made up of $15 for Tumut Bushwalkers and $20 to the Federation of Bushwalkers. (6 month membership $20) NON MEMBERSHIP new walkers are most welcome to come along and enjoy the day at a charge of $5. After 3 walks it is expected that a person becomes a full financial member. Children under the age of 16 are not charged but must be under the supervision of a responsible paying adult. NOTICE TO ALL WALKERS: It is a condition of participation that all walkers do so at their own risk. The Tumut and District Bushwalkers Inc and any activity leader or co-ordinator will not accept any responsibility for any loss, damage or injury to any participant how so ever any loss, damage or injury may arise or be caused.
2 For the safety of walkers the Club has a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). The PLB will be carried by the Walk Leader. The PLB will be kept with the walkers sign on folder along with instructions on how to use it and guidelines for when it should be used. UP AND COMING EVENTS 1. Saturday 4 th and Sunday 5 th August, 2018 MOUNT PINIBAR (Vic) WEEKEND A snow shoeing weekend is planned with a walk to the top of Mt Pinibar which, if the weather is clear, offers spectacular views of various peaks in both Victoria and NSW. The plan is to meet in Corryong early Saturday and drive out to the Lind Lodge Ski Hut where we will camp the night. The snow shoeing would then be done on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday would be spent packing up and returning home. The road to the Ski Hut is fine for a 2 wheel drive vehicle. After the hut there will be a 45 minute drive to the locked gate and then a snow shoe of 4kms to the summit. The hut has an open fire and a wooden floor so all camp bedding, cooking equipment, food etc needs to be taken. Travel Distance: Tumut to Corryong 140kms (2hrs) Contact Person: Trevor Potts Ph: Friday 2 nd Tuesday 6 th November, 2018 CAMPING AT THREE MILE DAM A weekend of camping at Three Mile Dam is planned with walks on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Walks that are being considered are Gooandra Homestead (10kms; Easy to Medium), Hains Hut (13kms; Medium) and Tantangara Mountain and Hut (10kms; Medium). The Club will go up for the day on the Sunday and do one of the walks possibly to Hains Hut but there is the option of camping up at Three Mile Dam and doing 3 days of walking or if you do not wish to camp going up each day and joining the walkers for that day. 4 L/ 5 th August 2018 first half of the WIRADJURI TRAIL We will walk the new extended Wiradjuri Trail starting at the Information Centre in Wagga. We will walk along the levee bank till we reach Kooringal Road which we will then walk down via the War Cemetery till we reach Lake Albert (a stop at a coffee shop for coffee and morning tea is an option). We will then walk around Lake Albert and find a nice spot for lunch before walking up Red Hill Road and across some undulating bits of Willans Hill to look down on Lake Albert and surrounding suburbs. The walk will finish at Jubilee Park. A car shuttle will be required. Depart: TIC 8.00am Travel Distance: 200kms Walk Distance: 20kms Grade: Easy to Medium Carpool Cost: $10.00 Contact Person: Cathy Conroy Ph: or L/12 th August 2018 second half of the WIRADJURI TRAIL This week we will start where we finished last week, at Jubilee Park in Wagga, and walk the rest of the Trail. We will walk behind the suburb of Lloyd and out towards the Olympic Highway and then on to Pomingalarna where there are some lovely views looking down on Wagga. We then come down onto Flowerdale Lagoon and over to the Marrambidya Wetlands and onto the levee bank to finish at the Wagga Information Centre. A car shuttle will be required. This walk commences on private property and then leads us into Madjarn Nature Reserve. We will have several hills to conquer on the way, some on fire trails and others through bushland to get to the mine sites. Production year of the mines date back to Some of the mine sites offer superb views of the surrounding areas from elevated positions. 5 2 nd September 2018 FATHERS DAY NO WALK Fathers Day S/ 9 th September 2018 VICKERY S HUT This walk starts on Prosser s Fire Trail off the Snowy Mountains Highway near Talbingo. Vickery s Hut was built in 1945 by the Vickery family of Tumut on their grazing lease which is located on a small grassy flat along the Jounama Creek. The shed illustrates the skills of the builders in their use of existing materials including flattened out kerosene tins which line the exterior walls of the shed. Bring wading shoes as Jounama Creek will be crossed twice coming and going. Depart: TIC 9am Travel Distance: 100km Walk Distance: 7kms Grade: Medium - With steep descent down to Jounama Creek and steep climb out on the return walk back to the cars Carpool Cost: $5.00 Contact Person: Ron Pearce Ph: or S/ 16 th September 2018 BLACK PERRY This walk is to the iconic Black Perry Peak. The walk starts just past the Black Perry lookout and drops down across the Jounama Creek, then climbs steeply to a ridge which is followed to the peak. The walk is all off track with at times thick undergrowth. Walkers may like to use wadding shoes for the creek crossing. We will walk to Flea Creek campground on the Goodradigbee River via Gentle Annie Fire Trail for lunch and return the same way. 6 S/ 7 th October 2018 BATLOW GOLD MINES AND WATER RACE Visit 2 mine sites and water race that operated in the late 1800 s. There are numerous lookouts and interpretive areas, bring your camera. Some short but steep hills with total climb of 450m for the walk. Depart: TIC 9.30am Batlow Hall 10.00am Travel Distance: 70kms Walk Distance: 9kms Grade: Medium Carpool Cost: $5.00 Contact Person: Peter Vella Ph: L/ 14 th October 2018 BLACK RANGE TUMBARUMBA Leave cars at Creekscape Park Tumbarumba, walk through showground and Pony Club grounds to Lyne St and Pipe Clay Gully and then to Black Range Rd and Johansen Winery. Return via Hill Top, Union Jack and Bogong Streets to the cars. There are great views, historic sites of the gold era 1887 to 1894 and points of interest along the way. Walk to Oldfields Hut via Murray s Gap Fire Trail. After inspecting Oldfields Hut we will walk back to the top of the hill we came down and proceed to Goodradigbee Weir and walk down the river to Pockets Saddle Rd. From here we walk to Pockets Hut, then back to the cars. Walkers will see 2 huts, Mt Bimberi (highest in the ACT), Mt Murray, Mt Morgan and a small water fall and views of Old Currango homestead in the distance. From the cars the walkers will be able to visit Buddong Hut built in 1925 and upper and low Buddong Falls via the Hume and Hovell walking track. 7 L/ 4 th November 2018 HAINS HUT Travel to the locked gate at the ford over Tantangara Creek on the Bullocks Hill Trail. We will cross the creek (wading shoes and walking poles recommended) and walk along Bullocks Hill Trail turning off to go to the gauging station on the Murrumbidgee River. The river will then be followed downstream to Hains Hut for lunch and returning to the cars via Hains Hut Trail and Bullock Hill Fire Trail. Mine shafts can still be seen, as well as some mining equipment including a stamper and a large tank that were carted in by bullock teams. Half the walk is off track through light bush and along a water race that has been overgrown in places and the walk out is on a steep fire trail. Wading shoes may be required as the Goobragandra river has to be crossed. Just past Brayshaw s Hut, turn onto Old Boboyan Rd for a short distance. From here we will walk two kilometres down the road to inspect the ruins of Boboyan Homestead and look for old grave sites, after which we will continue on for a further 4km to Luton s Crutching Shed for lunch.
