PO Box 575, TUMUT 2720 tumut.bushwalkers@yahoo.com.au 1. PLEASE REMEMBER to carry protective clothing at all times as weather conditions can change rapidly, especially in the mountains. Carry drinking water and lunch plus extra food in case of an emergency. Wear sturdy footwear. 2. WALKS LEADERS reserve the right to change the walk route on the day depending on prevailing conditions and altered circumstances. Members and visitors must check with the walk leader that their fitness and experience suit the walk. A walk leader can refuse permission for any person to take part in his/her activity. 3. WALK GRADING a) EASY Relatively gentle grades. Suited to most people. b) MEDIUM mostly good surfaces, but with some rough or steep sections. Suitable for people of average fitness. c) HARD includes rough or steep sections some of which may require clambering over natural obstacles. Some steep ascents and descents. d) Long walks designated L, Short walks designated S. 4. ASSEMBLY POINT for walks on this program will be at the TUMUT VISITORS INFORMATION CENTRE, Snowy Mountains Highway (shown in the attachment as TIC). Start times vary to suit travel distances. 5. FIRST AID KITS are the responsibility of each walker however the walk s leader will be carrying an emergency one. MEMEBERSHIP SUBS due at AGM in June each year. Subs are $30.00 per year - made up of $15 for Tumut Bushwalkers and $15 to the Federation of Bushwalkers. (6 month membership $15) NON MEMBERSHIP new walkers are most welcome to come along and enjoy the day at a charge of $2. After 3 walks it is expected that a person becomes a full financial member. Children under the age of 16 are not charged but must be under the supervision of a responsible paying adult. NOTICE TO ALL WALKERS: It is a condition of participation that all walkers do so at their own risk. The Tumut and District Bushwalkers Inc and any activity leader or co-ordinator will not accept any responsibility for any loss, damage or injury to any participant how so ever any loss, damage or injury may arise or be caused.
2 For the safety of walkers the Club has a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). The PLB will be carried by the Walk Leader. The PLB will be kept with the walkers sign on folder along with instructions on how to use it and guidelines for when it should be used. S or L/ 2 nd August 2015 Snow Shoeing Day The club is running a snow shoeing activity for club members probably near the Mt Selwyn Ski Resort area or nearby depending on the snow. It is essential that people book in with the walk leader no later then Tuesday night 28 th July as snow shoes have to be hired for the day if you don t already have them. The cost to hire a pair of snow shoes will be $25. Also additional information for the day will be given when you book in. Depart: TIC 8.00 am Walk Distance: Up to the participants Walk Leaders: Ted Conroy Ph: Travel Distance: 200 kms If there is insufficient snow on the day or the weather is too bad up in the mountains there will be an exploratory walk in the Pomingalarna Park section of the Wiradjuri Walking Track in Wagga. The walk will be about 10 kms with a medium grade. S/ 9 th August 2015 Mount Garland to Mannus Lake Leave cars on Murray Crossing Road, Tumbarumba, walk west along this road, climbing to a ridge and Mount Garland Trail. Take a track to the right down through forest and farmland to Mannus Lake Mark 2. Walk to picnic spot for lunch and return by same route. We will have afternoon tea at Bicentennial Park. Depart: TIC9.30 am Batlow Hall am Travel Distance: 145 kms Walk Distance: 7 kms to Hard (very steep down and back up again) Walk Leader: Nancye McInerney th August 2015 AT THIS STAGE NO WALK IS PLANNED
3 S/ 23 rd August 2015 Picnic Hill Cars to be left at Matchett s ruins off Jounama Dam Road, we commence our walk along part of the Batlow Yellowin Road until we reach our lunch spot at Picnic Hill. On this walk it will be interesting to see any regrowth after the devastation caused by the January bush fires that started near Lunds Pine Plantation. Great views of Blowering Dam can be seen from this elevated position. Depart: TIC 9.00 am Travel Distance: 80 kms Walk Distance: 10 kms Grade: Easy/Medium, with a gradual climb. Walk Leader: Ray Quinn Ph: S/ 30 th August 2015 Base of Mill Creek Falls This walk commences from Elizabeth St near the Talbingo water supply and garbage tip at the start of the National Park sign posted walk. Leaving the cars you climb steeply to an advantage point over looking Talbingo Township and Jounama Dam. From here the track meanders through native bushland and just before the top of the falls are reached we will leave the trail for a short steeper down section to join a faint track that leads to the base of the falls. Lunch will be taken at this rarely visited spectacular location and if walkers are keen a quick visit to the top of the falls on the way out. Depart: TIC 9.00 am Travel Distance: 90 kms Walk Distance: 7 kms /hard Walk Leader: Phil Crane Ph: th September 2015 Fathers Day - No Walk Saturday 12 th September Annual Dinner at Tumut RSL Club pm for 6.30pm The guest speaker is Trevor Potts talking about his adventures in the Simpson Desert To give the RSL Club an indication of numbers it would be appreciated if you could let Cathy Conroy know (Ph: ) by Wednesday 9 th September. Meals will be from the menu. S/ 13 th September 2015 Hair Of The Dog Walk This walk will be on the Dog on the Tuckerbox Recreational Trail at Gundagai. We will park cars at the beginning of Spring Flat Drive near the Gundagai Public School. From here we will follow the trail out to the Dog on the Tuckerbox. People will have the choice of bringing their lunch or buying it out at the Dog on the Tuckerbox. The return journey will be by the same route. 4 S/ 20 th September 2015 Sawpit Creek Mason s Hill Leave cars at Kosciuszko View Albury St, Tumbarumba. Walk to the site of the old railway station off the Wagga road. Head south past the waste transfer station and follow the bush track down the hill until we reach the railway line. We will have lunch here. After lunch we will walk another bush track which becomes Camden Park Road and follows Sawpit Creek. We will continue to Linden Roth Drive then onto another bush track which will take us up Mason s Hill. Return to our cars and a cuppa. Depart: TIC 9.30 am Batlow Hall am Travel Distance: 140 kms Walk Distance: 7 kms Walk Leader: Nancye McInerney Ph: L/ 27 th September 2015 Ugly Mountain The walk starts at Macks Crossing at Goobragandra. It follows Stokes Hut Trail along the Goobragandra River until reaching Dinner Time Creek. Walkers will then leave the track and follow a ridge to the top of Ugly Mountain. Depart: TIC 8.00 am Travel Distance: 40 kms Walk Distance: 17 kms Grade: Hard with some undergrowth to get through and some steep sections Walk Leaders: Phil Crane Ph: th October 2015 Long weekend - No Walk (Daylight Saving begins) L/ 11 th October 2015 Spring in Seven Springs This is a walk with a bit of a difference. Leaving the cars at the junction of Bago and Batlow Road walk through a Travelling Stock Route then along a forest trail and into the private property of Seven Springs with over 200 acres to explore. View the apple orchard in bloom, beautiful lake and dams, the lovely fern gullies along the creeks and lots of tracks to follow. Return to cars by a different route. Afternoon tea will be at the White Gate. Depart: TIC 9.30am Batlow Hall 10.00am Travel Distance: 82 kms Walk Distance: 7 kms Walk Leaders: Nancye McInerney Ph: S/ 18 th October 2015 Brungle Cockatoo Road Nimbo Forks Leave cars at the end of Cockatoo Road, walk along to a site overlooking old prison barracks and Bells or Broughton s Island. Continue the walk to bridge over the Tumut River. Return to track to Nimbo Forks. After lunch there will be a steady climb up hill behind Cockatoo Road to reach the cars. 5 L/ 25 th October 2015 Wallace Creek Trail This walk starts at 3 Mile Dam and follows the Wallace Creek Trail running parallel at a distance to the Snowy Mountains Highway. Walkers will be able to visit trig ruins and take in the beautiful views including looking down on part of Talbingo Dam along the way. The walk will finish on the Snowy Mountains Highway opposite Bullocks Hill Horse Camp. A car shuttle will be required. Depart: TIC 8.30 am Travel Distance: 200 kms Walk Distance: 17 kms Walk Leader: Ted Conroy Ph: S/ 1 st November 2015 Blowering Basin Circuit Walk This walk will commence from Hume s Crossing Rest Area. We will follow the edge of Blowering Dam foreshore a short distance until we reach Blowering Creek and then head along the fire trail till lunch great views. Return a different way crossing over Janey s Creek and back along Cliffords Fire Trail to the cars. Depart: TIC am Travel Distance: 50 kms Walk Distance: 7 kms Grade: Easy/medium with one steep ascent and decent followed by some gentle hills to endure. Walk Leader: Ray Quinn Ph: L/ 8 th November 2015 Elaine Mine Starting from Mt Selwyn Ski Resort car park we follow a fire trail that intersects with the Tabletop Fire Trail. We follow this trail past Yan s Slip-Rails and then continue on through the nine mile diggings. Some distance along the track we turn off and follow an old waterrace that will eventually lead us to the head race dam above a fairly large open cut gully scared by hydraulic sluicing. We will inspect the dam and head down hill towards the Elaine Mine arriving in time for lunch. Return the same way. Bring gaiters as the grass is high in places. Depart: TIC 8.00 am Travel Distance: 200 kms Walk Distance: 18 kms Walk Leader: Michelle Johnson Ph: Mobile S/ 15 th November 2015 Mount Brae Commencing 5 kms past Brungle on the Darbalara Road this walk is through farmland to the top of Mount Brae. 6 Saturday 21 st November 2015 & Sunday 22 nd November 2015 Campover Weekend Trevor Potts has organised a Club campover on a property in the Walwa area owned by friend, Henry. It will be a car camping/tenting weekend. The plan is to meet at the Bridge Hotel Jingelic on the Saturday for lunch. After lunch we travel 45 minutes to Henry s working hut where we will car camp/tent for the night. There is a rain water tank there. We will have a BBQ tea and socialise and Henry who will tell us about his knowledge of the High Country. We can do walks on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday radiating out from the hut or the nearby country. Depart: TIC am on Saturday 21 st November 2015 Walk Leader: Trevor Potts Ph: L/ 29 th November 2015 Old Currango via Mosquito Creek Trail Travel along Snowy Mountains Highway, turn off onto Long Plain Road and then onto Port Phillip Fire Trail to Ghost Gully where the Mosquito Creek Trail begins. We will walk Mosquito Creek Trail to Old Currango visiting Hainsworth Hut on the way. From Old Currango we will follow a track to the Port Phillip Fire Trail near Tantangara Dam where we will have afternoon tea beside the dam. A car shuttle is required. Depart: TIC: 8.00 am Travel Distance: 210 kms Walk Distance: 17 kms Walk Leader: Ted Conroy Ph: Sunday 6 th December Christmas Party/General Meeting Last day to book a bed for the Currango weekend 18 th 21 st March Please let Cathy Conroy know by today if you are going on the Currango Campover (Ph: ) The Christmas Party will be at Mannus Lake Picnic Area. Members are encouraged to bring along a Christmas present no more than $10.00 in value, marked F for female and M for male to be exchanged on the day. The day will be leisurely spent doing whatever you want to do, a game, a walk or just relax in the company of fellow walkers.
