2 About Head Coach Bill Edwards: Bill Edwards is in his 17th season as Hofstra University Head Softball Coach, and he has led the Pride to national prominence during that time. His career record is currently The last three seasons have seen Edwards and the Pride achieve new levels of success, including the 2004 campaign, when it came one win shy of reaching the Women s College World Series. Hofstra has won at least two games in each of the last three NCAA Tournaments and has been to the regional finals for two straight seasons. The Hofstra Softball program has also displayed consistent excellence over the last 16 years. Edwards and company have garnered eight NCAA Tournament appearances (1993, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005), two East Coast Conference Championships (1992 and 1994), five America East Championships (1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001), four Colonial Athletic Association Championships (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005) and an ECAC Championship (1993). In each of the last 14 years under Edwards, the Pride has won either a regular season or a postseason conference title, including a streak of eight straight tournament championships. Edwards, who has been a part of 16 straight winning seasons at Hofstra, also coached the Pride to a #21 ranking in the final 2004 NCAA Division I Softball Poll, and a #20 ranking in the final 1994 poll. In addition, he has led the Pride to #1 rankings in the Northeast Region Poll in 1993, 1994, 1997 and Edwards has also been named the Regional Coach of the Year seven times in his career (1993, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005). His players have also earned All- America honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association five times, including twice by Crystal Boyd (1993, 1994) and once apiece from Alicia Smith (2000), Lisa Ciavardini (2000) and Amanda Hallaway (2003). Edwards came to Hofstra from Commack High School, where he coached softball for nine years. During his tenure at Commack, his teams compiled a record and reached the Suffolk County Class A playoffs seven times. Edwards and his wife, Janie, have two grown daughters, Shari, who played NCAA Division I softball at Northern Illinois University and coached at Hofstra, and Karen, a licensed practical nurse. Edwards received a bachelor's in physical education from Northern Michigan University in 1967 and a master's from the University at Stony Brook in The Edwards family resides in Nesconset, N.Y. Back To The Regional Finals: One year after falling one win short of the 2004 Women s College World Series, the Pride had almost unreasonably high expectations coming into Hofstra handled the pressure well, though, and made it back to the NCAA Regional finals for the second year in a row before falling to Alabama. The Pride lost its opening NCAA game for the first time in the last three years to Arizona State, but bounced back to defeat Mississippi Valley State to stay alive. Hofstra then earned a 2-1 win over Arizona State to reach the regional finals. Hofstra trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth inning of the opening game, but tallied five runs, capped off by Dreslinski's grand slam, to take control. Senior shortstop Laura Sweeney (Hopewell Junction, NY) led off with a single through the left side, and freshman left fielder Erika Bernstein (Somerville, NJ) followed with a single into shallow left. Freshman catcher Carolann Lubach (Langley, WA) was hit by a pitch, and one out later, junior right fielder Ashley Lane tied the score when her pop-up fell into shallow right-center in between three George Mason fielders. After a pop up gave the Patriots their second out, Dreslinski hammered a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left-center field to give the Pride the 7-3 lead. Dreslinski was 2-for-4 with a career-high five runs batted in during the opener, while Lane was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Bernstein was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Lotti threw a complete game four-hitter to pick up her eighth straight victory and improve to 10-3 on the season. She struck out a career-high tying 10 batters and walked none, and has now tallied 29 strikeouts and no walks in her last three games. In the nightcap, Hofstra avoided any dramatics by jumping out to a 10-0 lead after two innings. Ulrich had an RBI single to score Lubach in the top of the first, while Dreslinski added an RBI groundout. In the second inning, Lane and Ulrich hit backto-back two run-doubles and senior second baseman Lisa Wambold (Hatboro, PA) added a three-run homer. Wambold added a two-run shot in the fourth inning, improving her career total to 24, while Ulrich added a grand slam, extending her school record to 26 and Lane added a solo shot to stretch her total to 25. Senior catcher Kristin Galeone (Bensalem, PA) added a three-run homer to give the Pride five homers in the second game and six on the day. Ulrich was 3-for-4 with a career-high seven RBI in the nightcap, tying for the second-highest single-game RBI total in school history. Wambold added an RBI single and was 3-for-4 with six RBI, while Lane was 3-4 with a homer, double and three RBI. Lane had hits in her first five at-bats on Sunday before finally getting thrown out on a ball she chopped in front of home plate in her third at-bat of the nightcap. Courtney Oliver (Swansea, MA) allowed no hits over three innings of work to get the win and improve to 8-3 on the season. Freshman Melissa Hodge (Hamilton, NJ) allowed one hit in 1.2 innings, and senior Jennifer Daddino (Franklin Square, NY) got the final out in her first career appearance.

3 Hofstra Dominant In Conference: Hofstra is 7-1 in the CAA so far this season and is looking to continue its success in conference play against Georgia State this weekend. The Pride has been remarkably consistent in league play over the last decade since joining the America East Conference (then called the North Atlantic Conference) in Hofstra has had at least a.750 league winning percentage every season since 1995, while finishing first in 10 of 11 years. Its overall conference record since 1995 is (.846), including in the CAA. Hofstra has also not lost a conference series since its very first one in the CAA in 2002 (1-2 against Towson). Since then, the Pride has won a conference series 20 times and split two at one game apiece. Hofstra Conference Finishes Year Conference Rec. Hofstra has been particularly dominant against conference teams at home, compiling a 44-3 record all-time against CAA teams (including 13-1 in CAA Tournament games). Going back to the 2001 season in the America East, Hofstra is 54-3 in its last 57 home games against league teams. Ulrich Breaks Home Run Record: Senior third baseman Tara Ulrich (West Nyack, NY) broke the school record for home runs in a career when she belted her 25 th in a 6-1 win over Towson on April 2. However, two of her teammates remain in close pursuit. Junior outfielder Ashley Lane (Westbury, NY) also hit a home run against George Mason, putting her alone in second place with 25 in her career. Meanwhile, senior second baseman Lisa Wambold (Hatboro, PA) hit two homers against the Patriots and is close behind in a tied for third with 24 homers with former record holders Hailey Clark and Amanda Hallaway. The seven RBI tie her for the second-highest single game total in school history. Hailey Clark set the school mark last season when she had 10 RBI in a win over LIU, making her the third player in NCAA Division I history to have a 10- RBI game. 4 Double Duty: In addition to moving up the Pride s record lists for home runs, senior third baseman Tara Ulrich (West Nyack, NY) is also moving up the doubles charts as well. Ulrich has 13 doubles already this season, giving her 43 in her career, which puts her in sixth in Hofstra history, one behind Jen Smith ( ). The record of 68 is out of reach, but Ulrich could finish as high as second on the doubles chart by the time the season is over. Of Ulrich s 31 hits this year, 22 have been for extra bases (13 doubles, nine home runs). Wambold Has First Two-Homer Game: Senior second baseman Lisa Wambold (Hatboro, PA) hit two home runs in the Pride s 21-0 win over George Mason on Sunday. Wambold currently is tied for third on the Pride s career home run list with 24, including 13 last season (third on the school s single-season list). However, she had never had more than one homer in the same game until hitting two against George Mason. She also made a bid for a third homer in the George Mason game, but her long fly ball down the left field line hooked foul. She ended up settling for an RBI single in that at-bat, completing a 3-for-4, six- RBI game. She and senior third baseman Tara Ulrich (West Nyack, NY) both set their career highs in runs batted in during that contest, as Ulrich had seven RBI (including a grand slam). Movin On Up: Senior second baseman Lisa Wambold (Hatboro, PA) has a chance to finish her Hofstra career as arguably the top five-tool player in the program s history. She is only two shy of the school record for career home runs (see previous page) and finished in third on the singleseason home run list with 13 last year. In addition, she is also now alone in second place on the career stolen base list with 49 (see below), while her 16 stolen bases in 2004 rank as the second-highest total in Hofstra annals (see below). Wambold has a chance to graduate as Hofstra s all-time leader in both homers and stolen bases. Classmate Laura Sweeney (Hopewell Junction, NY) is also fourth on the career stolen base charts with 38 (see below), just one away from moving into a tie for third. In 2004, current seniors Lisa Wambold (Hatboro, PA) and Laura Sweeney (Hopewell Junction, NY) combined for 31 stolen bases in 37 attempts, with Wambold going and Sweeney Those rank as two of the top four single-season stolen base totals in school history. Last year, Wambold was stealing bases, and Sweeney was So far this year, Wambold is 9-9 in the stolen base department, and Sweeney is 6-8. Hofstra Single-Season Stolen Base Leaders No. Name Year 19 Robyn Trezise Lisa Wambold Laura Sweeney Jen Pawol Robyn Trezise Laura Sweeney Lisa Wambold Lisa Wambold LaMeka Anderson Christine Moran Heather Brousseau 2002 Stop! Thieves!: The Hofstra Softball team has rewritten the home run record books in recent seasons, but this year s team may go down as the best base-stealing team that the Pride has ever assembled. Hofstra currently has 35 stolen bases this year in 31 games, a pace of more than one per game. The school record for stolen bases in a season is 58, set by the 2001 team over a 63-game schedule. Seniors Lisa Wambold (Hatboro, PA) and Laura Sweeney (Hopewell Junction, NY) have been stealing bases successfully their entire careers (see above), but the addition of freshmen Carolann Lubach (Langley, WA) and Erika Bernstein (Somerville, NJ) has given Hofstra a couple more weapons as well. Lubach is 8-9 stealing bases, while Bernstein is 6-6. Grand Slam Pam: Sophomore center fielder Pam Dreslinski (Kingsville, OH) picked an opportune time to hit her first career grand slam on Sunday. The Pride was trailing George Mason 3-2 for most of the game before finally pulling even on a bloop single into shallow right field with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth. One batter later, Dreslinski came to the plate with the score tied 3-3 and two outs, and drilled a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left-center field for her first career grand slam. Dreslinski had hit her first home run as a member of the Pride earlier this season in a game at UNC Wilmington on March 25. Hofstra Breaks Home Run Record: Hofstra s five home runs in the nightcap of its doubleheader against George Mason on Sunday set a new school record for homers in a game. The Pride had hit four home runs in a game twice, including a home win over Columbia in 2004 and a home win over LIU in Senior second baseman Lisa Wambold (Hatboro, PA) hit two homers in the game, while senior third baseman Tara Ulrich (West Nyack, NY), senior catcher Kristin Galeone (Bensalem, PA) and junior outfielder Ashley Lane (Westbury, NY) each added one round-tripper as well.

5 Lane Earns CAA Player Of Week: Junior outfielder Ashley Lane was named the CAA Player of the Week on Monday after batting.769 (10-13) in four Pride wins. It marks the second week in a row that Hofstra has earned that honor, as senior third baseman Tara Ulrich (West Nyack, NY) captured it the previous week. Sophomore Courtney Oliver (Swansea, MA) also won the Pitcher of the Week honor last week, while Kayleigh Lotti (South Attleboro, MA) won the Rookie of the Week on Feb. 26. Lane Has Nine Straight Hits: Junior outfielder Ashley Lane (Westbury, NY) has been a consistent hitter throughout her Hofstra career, but has turned up her production another notch as of late. Lane recently had a streak where she had hits in nine straight at-bats, setting a new school record. She also had two walks during the streak, enabling her to reach base in 11 straight plate appearances. The streak began with a double in her final atbat in the first game of the Pride s Iona doubleheader on Thursday. She then batted 3-for-3 in the nightcap, and then went 3-for-3 in the first game of the George Mason doubleheader on Sunday. She added hits in her first two atbats of the George Mason nightcap to stretch her streak to nine, before tapping out on a grounder that came to rest three inches in front of home plate in fair territory. She then added a walk and a solo home run later in that contest, meaning that she enters the week in her last 11 atbats, as well as a stretch in which she has reached base with either a hit or a walk in 13 of her last 14 plate appearances. In The Fast Lane Junior outfielder Ashley Lane (Westbury, NY) is on pace to challenge several Hofstra career records in her four years. Her 25 home runs put her on pace for 40 in four seasons, which would shatter the school record of 26 held by current senior Tara Ulrich (West Nyack, NY). She also has 99 runs batted in, on pace to challenge the school RBI record of 146, held by the team s current hitting coach, Lisa Ciavardini. Lane is well ahead of pace to become the eighth player in school history with 200 hits (the record is 271, held by former All- American Alicia Smith). Ashley Lane s Career Statistics Year Hits 2B HR RBI Avg Totals Pace Record The Home Run Queens: Heading into the 2003 campaign, the Hofstra team record for homers in a season was 29. The 2003 team, though, shattered that mark with 50, and the Pride has followed that season with 43 homers in 2004 and 44 last season. This year s team has 29 homers in 31 games, putting it on pace to challenge the record of 50. Most Team Home Runs - Single Season Year Games HR Lotti Finds Her Groove: Freshman pitcher Kayleigh Lotti (South Attleboro, MA) enters the week riding an eightgame winning streak, dating back to a 5-3 loss to defending national champion Michigan on Feb. 24. That streak would have put her in position to challenge the school record before last season, which was 11. However, last year s CAA Pitcher of the Year, Callie Osborne, put together a 21-game streak that was not broken until the NCAA Regionals. Lotti has also been particularly effective in her last three outings, tallying 29 strikeouts and no walks in that span. She set a new career-high with 10 strikeouts in a win over Towson on April 2, then had nine in a win over Iona on April 6 and matcher her career-high with 10 in a win over George Mason on April 9. A Heck Of A Debut: Hofstra freshman pitcher Kayleigh Lotti made her collegiate debut a memorable one when she threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Temple on Feb. 18, striking out five and allowing only a leadoff walk in the fourth inning. Lotti threw 29 no-hitters in high school, including 14 as a junior and 10 as a senior. She was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for her efforts. Lotti followed up her no-hitter by coming one out short of a shutout, but settling for the compete game victory in a 5-1 win over the College of Charleston. Young Guns: The Hofstra Softball team is relying on some young arms this season as it tries to win its ninth straight conference tournament championship. Last year s top two starters (Adrienne Clark, Callie Osborne) both graduated, and the starting pitching duties this year are split amongst freshmen Kayleigh Lotti (South Attleboro, MA) and Melissa Hodge (Hamilton, NJ) and sophomore Courtney Oliver (Swansea, MA). Senior Amy Belonick (Terryville, CT) has also made 14 appearances in relief for the Pride this season and has four saves. Lotti made a spectacular debut by throwing a no-hitter (see above), while Hodge was named the Newsday Athlete of the Week on Monday, March 13 after going 2-1 at the Adidas Invitational, including shutting out Illinois-Chicago over six innings and allowing only an unearned run in a win over Buffalo. Lotti is currently 10-3, Oliver 8-3, and Hodge 4-2. Oliver Big At Plate/Circle: Sophomore Courtney Oliver (Swansea, MA) was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 3. She tossed a two-hitter with no earned runs in a 4-2 win over Stony Brook on March 28, while also adding the tiebreaking home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Hofstra a 3-2 lead. She then tossed a four-hitter in a 6-1 win over Towson on April 2, adding a two-run homer as part of a four-run third inning that gave the Pride a 4-1 lead. Oliver has not allowed more than four hits in any of her last five appearances, including no hits in three innings against George Mason on Sunday, Lubach Off To Strong Start: Hofstra knew that it would have to rely heavily on its freshman pitchers this season (see above). The Pride, though, has also gotten a strong contribution from freshman catcher Carolann Lubach (Langley, WA) who is currently batting.345, placing her second on the team behind Ashley Lane s (Westbury, NY).380 average. Lubach has also taken over the leadoff spot in the Hofstra batting order in recent weeks and is 8-9 in stolen bases. Defensively, she has thrown out both attempted base stealers in conference play this season.

6 Two More Postseason Wins: Hofstra won two NCAA Tournament games for the third year in a row in 2005, defeating Mississippi Valley State 13-1 and Arizona State 2-1. The Pride became one of only 12 schools in the nation to win at least two games in the CAA Tournament in the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons. The others include six Pac- 10 schools (UCLA, Arizona, Washington, California, Oregon, Oregon State), Michigan, Oklahoma, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Alabama. Hofstra also won two games in 2003 (over Nebraska and Creighton) and four games in 2004 (over Auburn, Stanford, and Southern Illinois twice). Ironically, four of the six non-pac 10 schools on the list were put in the same pool at the NFCA Leadoff Classic on Feb (Hofstra, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Michigan). Hofstra ended up losing to Michigan 5-3 and Georgia Tech 3-1, while its game with Alabama was canceled due to weather. Schools With Two Or More NCAA Wins Alabama Arizona California Georgia Georgia Tech Hofstra Michigan Oklahoma Oregon Oregon State UCLA Washington Pride Wins 10 th NCAA Game in New Millennium: Hofstra s two NCAA Tournament wins improved its total to 10 in the 2000 s. The Pride started out 4-0 with wins over Temple, Charleston, Florida A&M, and Jacksonville, but lost to South Florida in the championship game of the Wilson Invitational 7-5. Hofstra also participated in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia, where it was tied 3-3 with defending national champion Michigan before the Wolverines scored twice in the fifth inning to capture a 5-3 win. Last weekend, the Pride went 4-3 at the Adidas Invitational in Clearwater, FL, picking up a 2-0 win over Michigan State. It also was in a close game with second-ranked Tennessee, before the Volunteers pulled away in the sixth inning for a 5-0 win. Working Overtime: Hofstra s 3-2, 12-inning win at Stony Brook on May 4 was the Pride s eighth straight extrainning victory, including 5-0 last season. The first three last year were decided in games that went to the international tiebreaker rule in the eighth (South Florida, Southern Mississippi and Maine). In 2004, Hofstra had three straight dramatic extra-inning wins in the postseason, including 2-1 over Delaware (9 innings) in the CAA Championship game, a 1-0 win over #12 Auburn (9 innings) in the opening round of the NCAA Regionals, and a 1-0 win over Southern Illinois (12 innings) in a winner s bracket game at the regionals. The last extra-inning loss the Pride suffered was 4-2 to Delaware (10 innings) during the 2004 regular season. Here is a list of the Pride s last eight extra inning games: Hofstra Extra-Inning Games Date Opp. Innings Score 5/4/05 Stony Brook 12 W 3-2 5/1/05 James Madison 8 W 4-2 3/20/05 Maine* 8 W 4-2 3/13/05 Southern Miss.* 8 W 4-3 2/21/05 South Florida* 8 W 5-4 5/21/04 Southern Illinois^ 12 W 1-0 5/20/04 Auburn^ 9 W 1-0 5/15/04 Delaware% 9 W 2-1 ^ 2004 NCAA Regionals (at Stanford) % 2004 CAA Championship Game * game played with international tiebreaker rule Current CAA Standings School CAA Overall Georgia State Hofstra UNC Wilmington Delaware Drexel James Madison Towson George Mason This Weekend s Series: Hofstra entertains Georgia State in a three-game series which will determine the inside track for the regular season champion and the right to host the CAA Tournament. Georgia State comes in with an 8-1 conference record, with the Pride right behind at 7-1. The winner of this weekend s three-game set will take over sole possession of first place with three conference weekends still to play. Hofstra has won both the regular season and the postseason CAA championships in all four years since the league was founded, although the last two seasons have come down to the final day. Georgia State so far has swept three games from James Madison and Drexel while taking two out of three on the road at Delaware. Hofstra and Georgia State have met three times previously, with Hofstra holding a 2-1 edge in the series. The last meeting came in 2001, with Hofstra capturing a 5-2 win at the South Florida/Wilson Invitational. Up Next: The Pride will play a non-conference home doubleheader next week against St. John s on Wednesdsay before traveling on the road for a key three-game CAA series with James Madison on Saturday and Sunday.
