2 Dear members As a member of our branch, you are also a member of the Pony Club. As you all know, the Pony Club is a voluntary youth organisation for young people within an equestrian environment. The Pony Club's purpose is: To encourage young people to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with ponies and riding To give instruction in riding and horsemanship and to educate Members to look after and take proper care of their animals To promote the highest levels of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty to create strength of character and self-discipline Have fun out and about over the summer months but do remember who you are representing and be proud to be part of it! Your committee works tirelessly to ensure that our branch fulfils the aims of the Pony Club. However you too must play your part by making sure you have committed your time to the Parents Help Rota and are up to date with the rules for tack and dress, for the disciplines you take part in. Remember the rules are set by Pony Club Headquarters and are there for a reason; to ensure you and your pony/horse s wellbeing at all times. The welfare of our equine friends is of paramount importance to us all. All the rules for each discipline can be downloaded from Please do remember that The Pony Club encourages plain dress and tack. In the digital age we are in, we will continue to strive to keep you all updated with branch news and events. Do check that we have your correct address. The branch website is a vital part of our branch now and contains all the news and activities, including events from other branches. In addition, you can always ring or text any rally/discipline organiser for any information you need. We try our very best to distribute updates to all. Finally, we will endeavour to try to make sure that ALL branch activities are advertised well in advance, enabling you ALL to make the most of the opportunities on offer. Let s hope we have a lovely spring and summer ahead! Best wishes Joan District Commissioner 2

3 Welcome to all our new members it will be great to meet you at our various events. Unsure about what to wear at the rallies, or what happens at a One Day Event, etc? Fancy going hunting and want to know more? Contact Sally Hayward, new member liaison, , from our committee and she will gladly assist in any enquiries. Parents your branch still needs you! We are continuing with our help rota this year as we increasingly need more and more volunteers to run our successful events. Your form has been ed directly to you so PLEASE do fill it in. Can you help in any way? We need an army of volunteers to run our competitions and we can guarantee that you have a skill we can utilise! The surplus from these events goes directly to our members, subsidising their rallies, training and additional branch activities. Last year we subsidised branch activities and members opportunities in excess of 8,000! This means we are able to keep rally, training and competition entry fees down to a more affordable rate for EVERYBODY. However in order to continue to do this, we need to maximise the amount of surplus from the events we organise. You can volunteer for a whole day or even more! Training will be given. Just some of the roles you will be doing: Showjumping Stewards, arena party, writers for the judge, tack checkers. Dressage Stewards, writers for the judges, tack checking Fence judges For xc, can work in pairs Cross country Tack checkers, stewards. Catering Bread butterers! Friendly, happy people required! Hospitality Taking refreshments to each ring/stewards etc Car parking Parking cars, manning the road crossing Sponsorship Could your company help in any way? Prizes etc GIVE SOMETHING BACK TO THE BRANCH AND HAVE FUN AT THE SAME TIME! DON T FORGET TO SEND YOUR HELP ROTA SHEET BACK TO JULIE. Extra help always needed so don t feel you have to restrict your help to only 1 day! 3

This way you are also showing a commitment to our branch. Have you a first aid qualification? Have good organisational skills? If so then pledge your additional help. Remember, mber, you don t have to restrict yourselves to just helping out just to fulfil your Parent s Help Rota. 8 Spring and summer programme. As ever, we have tried to cater for all ages and abilities and also chosen many different venues for variety and also accessibility to all. We are fortunate to be able to subsidise the training events, from the surplus made at our main competitions over the year, and rallies. We do not make a profit at any of our rallies or training sessions therefore if you have entered a rally and have to withdraw, unless we have a waiting list and can fill your place, unfortunately your entry fee cannot be refunded. Instructors and venues still have to be paid! We have organised many training activities designed for members wishing to represent the branch at a specific level, be it eventing PC 80, (80cms/2 7 ), PC90, (90cms/2 foot 11 ½), PC100, (100cms/3 3 ) or PC open (1.05cms/3 6 ), show jumping, Grassroots (80cms), Novice (95cms), Intermediate (105cms) and Open (1.15cms) or dressage Grassroots, Novice, Intermediate and Open. In the branch we have also arranged additional team training sessions. If you are unsure of your eligibility or suitability, please ring Anna to discuss or her. You can also check your eligibility for the area competitions in any discipline by looking on the main pony club website, As all these training events are highly subsidised by the branch, if oversubscribed, the places will be allocated to active members who have completed their working rallies and whose parents have committed to the parent s help rota. As a branch we are committed to promoting safe cross country riding however it does come at a cost. Do get your entries in early! Please check the dress code for the rally before you arrive as it saves YOU the embarrassment of being inappropriately dressed. In our branch we pride ourselves on the exceptional standard of dress throughout all the branch activities and when our members are representing the branch at other competitions. It is noted by many and also contributes to why we are asked to do many of the extras we do. Additionally, if you are competing at other branch competitions as an individual, when you leave please don t forget to thank the organisers. Finally, if you are representing your branch on a team you are EXPECTED to stay until prize giving with your team members. For prize giving you should also be correctly dressed. When entering rallies and training, please would all members either enter online or complete a branch entry form and send to the rally organiser with the appropriate fee. (Please note multiple cheques DO NOT have to be written if entries are to the same organiser!). This enables us to book and confirm the instructors well in advance, ensuring that nobody is disappointed. If you have to cancel any rallies you have entered, please inform THE PERSON WHO YOU SENT THE ENTRIES TO, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If there is a waiting list you may be entitled to a refund. 8
