1 p 18 February 2016 Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners Newsletter 05/2016 The school motto, Integrity and Commitment has intrigued me ever since I joined the Rand Park family. People with integrity and commitment are the pillars of a civilised society. They have a strong personality; they are honest, fair and have strong moral principles. They are dedicated and willing to give their time and energy to a cause they believe in. They do the right thing even when nobody is looking. They never cease to earn respect. During our recent prize-giving, many learners were acknowledged for their hard work and commitment to their academics. During the past year, many learners were also acknowledged for their commitment to sport, cultural and service-related activities. Well done! You ve undoubtedly earned respect from your peers, educators and loved ones as a result of your efforts. Many learners do not receive awards on the stage but are committed to their academics and other activities. Their commitment is noticed by educators, peers, loved ones and the people who interact with them. They too, earn respect. On the contrary, a small group of learners show very little respect for their peers and educators and are often disruptive, arrogant and self-centred. Their behaviour and decisions are based on the choices they make; it is never too late to choose to change your behaviour. Commitment alone is not enough. To be successful and respected you need integrity. There are some highprofile and successful individuals who have been very committed to their activities and earned public respect, but have sadly lost it all due to a lack of integrity. The media has showcased and reported on numerous examples of these individuals in the world of sport, politics and business. Commitment and integrity contribute to making the world a better place. Commitment, hard work, a love for music and incredible dedication was rewarded last night (17 February) when our resident band, Dee-Sharp, won the Battle of the Bands hosted by St Mary s, Waverley. 2 NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Financially Savvy Learners Representatives from Nedbank spoke to our Grade 12s during the Group Life Orientation session last week. Various topics were covered including saving money, student loans, career opportunities within the banking and financial services sector and banking learnerships. The session provided valuable information on an important topic required to make sound financial decisions in the future. Calm in Storm Contributes to Learner Development Gary Hirson, a Cape Town-based life coach, author, and motivational speaker from a company called Calm in Storm addressed our Grade 12s on how to achieve their dreams and goals on Monday, 15 February. Learners enjoyed the talk and were given food for thought on how to achieve their full potential. Calm in Storm has presented several workshops at Rand Park and is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and teenagers through motivational talks and workshops.
