1 28 July 2016 Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners Newsletter 19/2016 At this time of the year it is difficult not to notice the leaves that have fallen to the ground or the trees displaying their beautiful, empty winter branches. This lovely display enables them to use less water and energy during the cold season; in fact it could be considered similar to decluttering to promote growth later on once the weather warms up again. My research shows that the words deciduous and decide both come from the same old Latin word decidere which means to cut off. Nature (trees, geckos, snakes) cut off some parts of themselves every now and then in order to improve their growth and well-being. Does it not make sense to follow their lead and get rid of some of the stuff that keeps us bogged down as well? Barbara Hemphill defines clutter as postponed decisions. So it seems to get rid of the clutter in our lives, we need to take item by item and decide what we want to do with it. It helps to ask the question: What is the worst thing that can happen if I get rid if this thing/idea/person/ feeling? If it doesn t cause you to panic, then shed it, throw it away or give it away. To quote Hemphill: So as you go through life today and in the days to come, look at everything in your life with fresh eyes. Is it useful? Is it beautiful? Do you love it? If the answer to all three questions is "No!", then it's time to get rid of it. This includes physical clutter as well as emotional clutter. Don t spend time on feelings that don t benefit you. Don t spend time on friends who drag you down or influence you negatively; it does nothing for your wellbeing. Stop feeling despondent about your less than perfect report card and declutter the things in your life which contributed to those marks. Decide differently! Next time you see a leaf fall from a tree, think about your own clutter and how much lighter you will be if you can let go of certain things. Albert Einstein said: Out of clutter, find simplicity. Now who cannot do with a little more simplicity in their lives? Yours sincerely MRS R MARAIS HOD: CONSUMER STUDIES Top 10 Debutantes The top ten Debs, as at end June 2016 (listed alphabetically by surname), are as follows: Dominique Adolphe Jennifer Anderssen Kaylee Berriman Cailla Bester Bianca Brümmer Jordan Eustice Kayla Govender Dayna Limbeek Jade Lundin Paula-Ivana Rebelo `

2 NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS Collection of 2015 Matric Certificates Grade 12s who matriculated last year may collect their Matric certificates from the Front Office during school hours. Cash vs Internet Payments to RPHS We appeal to our parents to use internet banking deposits when making payments to the school instead of sending cash to the Bookkeeper s office. This is a safer option as learners do not need to carry cash with them and it reduces banking costs incurred by the school. A reminder that proof of all electronic payments must be ed to the following address: payments@randparkhigh.co.za. Parents Evening 2 August 2016 Parents Evening will be held on 2 August in the School Hall from 17h30 to 19h00. Attendance is by invitation only. The Grade Tutors will contact those parents who are required to attend in order to discuss their child s academic performance in one or more subjects. This is applicable across all Grades. Should a parent not receive an invitation to attend but wish to meet with the relevant educator, please contact the Grade Tutor for assistance. Please note that the school will be closed on Wednesday, 3 August due to local elections. School re-opens on Thursday, 4 August. Learner Addresses Rand Park learners who would like to receive a copy of this newsletter via must confirm their addresses with Mrs Stokoe in the front office or send an to Mrs Brocco: Shireen.brocco@randparkhigh.co.za. Important Notice for Grade 11s: Matric Registration 2017 All Grade 11s are reminded to bring their ID books/cards to school so that a photocopy can be made for matric registration in If you do not have an ID book/card, please apply for one as soon as possible as it is a requirement for writing the matric examinations.
