The course weathered the winter a lot better than last year, so we are excited for the conditions this year! Few notes on opening: Initially Tee times will be begin at 9:00am Tuesday Sunday. Please note that there may be frost delay pending weather conditions. As always we will keep you posted of any delays via , social media and in the Golf Shop. We will open with carts running with the 90 degree rule. A handout will be available in the Golf Shop. The Practice Range will be located at the west end of the facility using the mats. All golfers must check in at the Golf Shop prior to tee off. The Snack Bar will be open on Friday for the season with the Beverage Cart initially running on weekends (Friday Sunday). As always, please stop and ill up at the Snack Bar before the start of play and at the turn. Here is a handy list of Spring reminders and rules regarding the golf course opening. Tee time reservations are highly recommended in advance. Equity Members get 9 days advanced tee times and Non Equity get 2 days in advanced tee times. Make a tee time after securing speci ically who is playing so the reservation is accurate. All players must check into the Golf Shop before play. Mulligan on the irst tee will be strongly discouraged in 2015 in an effort to have the irst tee and pace of play run on time and ef iciently. The ivesome policy according to the Club guidelines will be strictly enforced in Please take time to refresh your memory on all policies and procedures for the golf course by referencing the membership handbook located on our website. 2 Ron Bond Club President Ready! Set! GO!!! The 2015 season is off and running. The staff has prepared several new and unique experiences for the members. Try something you haven t experienced, I am sure you won t be disappointed. Golf is on the mind of many. New events for 2015 include Derby Day and Reverse Golf Day not to mention the irst ever plans for a Ladies Invitational. Participation is key so let the Pro Shop staff know that we appreciate their efforts. Be aware that seasonal staff will be added during the months of April and May. Plan accordingly during the early season as the golf operation comes up to speed. Over the winter season the Golf Course has seen a signi icant amount of work. Many of those damn trees have been pruned and several have been removed to improve the experience on the course. Food and beverage continues to show its and starts. Staf ing has been an issue that most are aware of and to which many have expressed an opinion. Be assured that the Board of Managers is very aware of the situation and will continue to work with management to make the necessary changes. Mentioning the Board of Managers brings to the forefront the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Equity Membership. There are two positions that will be up for election. If you have an interest in shaping the future of the Club contact Jessica so that the nominating committee can include you in their considerations. A bio for each candidate should be available prior to the Meeting. Participation in the governance of the Club is extremely important. Whether it s casting your ballot, serving on a committee or serving as an elected member of the Board of Managers you can make a difference. Over 300 voices each with an opinion. The success of the Club depends on building a consensus of these often con licting ideas to create an environment for all to enjoy. The season looks to be exciting. This is an excellent time of the year to attract new members. Any leads, be sure to give Jessica a heads up. I look forward to a successful 2015 season and as always... See you at the Club! We have a loaded season full of events, fun and friendship for everyone to enjoy. The season long member golf calendar was ed out and is listed on the member only website. April is sort of your spring training for the season ahead. Far too often I see golfers start the year with forgetting the proper fundamentals and creating bad habits after the 5 month layoff. Many members set out to play better golf and it rarely ever happens. Why is this? Because getting better takes a commitment and professional help, which most people ignore due to too many factors. Many make the mistake of depending on information and tips from golf digest or the golf channel. Even worse is advice from friends that are good players or even their spouse! You have a team of educated, experienced and respected golf professionals waiting to help you enjoy your game more and play better golf in 2015! If you have never taken a golf lesson from a PGA professional or had a professional club itting, you re missing out on hitting better shots and having more fun! Set up a golf lesson or club itting today by calling staff the golf shop! We re here to help you improve. Call the golf shop today to schedule a lesson. The golf committee has been very active this offseason and started looking at changes and improvements for this season. A couple of the focuses regard pace of play and protecting our wonderful course. They were instrumental in getting starters and rangers for peak season to help the golf experience for the membership. In addition to this change is a new handicap lag policy for golf cart use at DDCC. If needed, any member or guest is welcome to use a handicap lag in accordance with the policy as follows: Members and Guest must present a valid handicap parking permit or driver s license issued from State and County of icials. No golfer under any circumstance should drive a cart any closer than ifteen yards from any green. Check with professional staff to obtain a handicap lag after showing needed veri ication. Management may use their judgment on cart path only days to determine if handicap play policy is allowed or not. Management will use their judgment on short term injuries and situations for allowing a handicap lag without documentation on a case by case basis. Your golf shop is once again fully stocked with equipment and apparel for the season! As always the DDCC member price can t be beat. We need your support more than ever in 2015 and are committed to providing you with the best options for your wardrobe and golf season. This year we are stocking goods according to the member survey. New arrivals from Nike, Cutter and Buck, Adidas, Ashworth and Ahead are already on the loor and ready for your purchases. Stop out soon before your sizes and favorites are sold out!

Through his 20 years in the golf industry Justin has been recognized and awarded many honors by the PGA in the areas of Player Development, Merchandising, Teaching and Club Fitting.

Justin s focus in 2015 will be to lead his staff and department so that Dakota Dunes Country Club meets every expectation of providing extraordinary golf programs that are highlighted by personalized service. He has been in the golf industry for 20 years and brings great experience and knowledge to the team. Jeff will focus much of his time and attention on day to day operations and program organization and execution. Jeff is happy to be back and to serve the club and is looking forward to playing golf with and teaching the membership! Nick Mrla Assistant Golf Professional, PGA apprentice Nick is originally from Sargent Bluff Iowa and the Lawton area. He is excited to return home after graduating from the Golf Academy of America in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Nick helped manage the club itting and repair department for the PGA superstore during college and brings great experience in these areas. Nick will help run the ladies golf programs in 2015 and focus on club itting and club repair which he enjoys. He is a huge Iowa State fan. Kevin Burchardt Assistant Golf Professional, PGA apprentice Kevin comes to us from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He is a recent graduate of the Golf Academy of America in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Kevin helped manage the day to day sales team and special orders for the PGA superstore during college and is excited to work in a Private Club setting. Kevin will help run the men s league, manage our special order business and focus on Junior Golf in Kevin is a big Wisconsin Badger fan and bleeds RED.

Doug Hausman Golf Course Superintendent The volunteer day on the eighth of March was a smashing success!

In approximately four hours, a winters worth of hard work was taken care of. Fifteen, nine, and ten were cleaned up and are now ready for the 2015 golf season forthcoming. Thank you once again.

As of the middle of March, we still had a plate of frost in the heavier soils at about eight inches. At the sixteenth tee we just repaired a break with frost at two feet where the pipe lay.

We cannot thank you enough for being members at Dakota Dunes and particularly to those that volunteered. The number of people and equipment was perfect for the day. In approximately four hours, a winters worth of hard work was taken care of. Fifteen, nine, and ten were cleaned up and are now ready for the 2015 golf season forthcoming. Thank you once again. All indications to date are that we will have a more normal golf course to wake up following a winter that provided moisture on a much more timely basis as compared to the previous winter. As of the middle of March, we still had a plate of frost in the heavier soils at about eight inches. At the sixteenth tee we just repaired a break with frost at two feet where the pipe lay. From a golfer s perspective the preference is to have all frost out of the ground prior to play to eliminate ruts caused by traf ic that will stay throughout the rest of the season. The weather to date has been unseasonably warm at times, but there has not been any moisture over the top to eliminate frost and warm up soil temperatures to initiate growth. On a day that was ninety degrees, the soil temp on the very green was a mere 36 degrees; where 50 degrees is preferable. With all of that being said, the irrigation is charged and watering is occurring where ever and whenever we can. To water this time of year one usually needs to do so during daylight hours as night time temperatures are usually hovering around freezing. We re also illing lakes as we do this to keep water moving throughout the whole freeze thaw process of spring. To do this requires three to four of us very slowly moving water around and making necessary repairs as we go. Please be patient as the irst time an irrigation head functions, it does not always function as it should. Thank you very much for your patience as we prepare the golf course to open very soon for the 2015 Golf Season. We look forward to seeing you all out there with a ball in the air. April kicks off with our Easter activities for kids. With Easter right around the corner we would like to do some special art projects with the kids. For the Dakota Valley kids Friday, March 20 th at 9:00am was your day, and for the Heelan kids mark down April 2 nd at 9:00am as your day! With our Easter Brunch coming up we would like to make some fun centerpieces and decorations for the day. On Friday, April 3 rd we will host our annual Easter Egg Dying activity in the Dining Room. The fun will start promptly at 11:00am, don t be late as the eggs go fast! The Easter Bunny visits on Easter Sunday with an Easter Egg hunt and plenty of fun. Come enjoy the Easter Brunch and the Easter Bunny. The Easter Egg hunt will begin at 12:30pm. We have updated the Snack Bar and the lounge over by the pool, now we need your help to add some color! On Monday, April 6 th at 2pm kids ages 8 13 years old will create colorful splash art paintings to hang on the walls! This will be a fun time as we get ready for the spring and summer. Get an early view of what we have in store for the summer, then get those kids signed up for their activities of choice! It s going to be a great summer so don t miss out on the fun. On April 24 th the Margaritaville Party is back and you are invited! Come enjoy drink specials, food, and live music with the Jimmy Buffet style band Too Drunk to Fish. This will be a great party so you will de initely not want to miss! Party starts at 9 pm weather permitting out on the veranda. Fitness is big going into spring so make sure to come join one of our many classes. You can join Karen s Cardio and Strength Class, Carol s Toning Class, Marsha s Step Class and our newly added Boot Camp Class with Tracy Mozak. Any of those four classes are no additional cost!! 11 Jessica Weber Marketing/Membership Director Winter is slowly exiting as we all prepare for our favorite time of the year! Outdoor Season! Now is the time we ramp up staf ing for areas throughout the Club to accommodate the membership during the outdoor season. In this newsletter and upcoming newsletters, you will see a new section titled, Meet the Staff! This will be a great tool for you to see the new faces at the Club for the season as well as learn more about staff who have been in place for a while. Each year the Club hosts a Day at the Dunes event on a Monday as an opportunity for nonmembers to play the course. The only advertising we do for this day is at the Golf Expo in Sioux Falls each year. And again this year, it proved extremely bene icial as on March 3, we opened and illed the tee sheet within only a few hours! I think this is a strong testament to the amazing course you have in your backyard. We look forward to welcoming these guests and showing them the best of Dakota Dunes Country Club. April seems to be the start to our busy year with many activities planned. With many new members throughout the membership the past year, I encourage everyone to reach out and meet someone new. An updated roster will be sent out within the next month. As always, I look forward to seeing you around the Club!
