1 CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Hartford, CT Chapter - American Singles Golf Association February 2014 Simulator Golf March 8th Our next sign up event will be Simulator golf at Tee It Up Golf in Bristol ( ) on Saturday March 8 th. They are located on Andrews Street. Start time is 6 PM. There are two simulators available, a driving range, and a TV. Cost is $ 20 for 9 holes. We are doing a pot luck of appetizers, munchies/food similar to our Super Bowl event. BYOB. We have had many activities going on so our lag time is reduced. Everyone had a great time, and a few bowled some impressive games, including Bill Reilly (164), and Nancy Hammond and Barbara Metzen (160). Bowlers were Judy Unsworth, Pat Sullivan, Lynn Swanson, Bill Reilly, Barbara Metzen, Helen Bessoni, Pam Devino, Rick Avery, Joe Fasi, Linda Carillo, John Rodomski, Sandra Hackett, Les McCoy, Tom Woods, Nancy Hammond, Sal Scurto, Rose Zolnik (a brand new member), Paul Silverio, Carole Grady, Nancy Elliott, Cheryl Woodin, and Diana Swenhall. Also dropping by but not bowling were Volunteers Wanted for Golf Show The Membership Committee is asking for volunteers to assist at our table at this year s Golf Show, taking place March 14, 15, and 16 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. Show times are: Friday: 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. I would like to have people work in 3 or 4 hour shifts to provide good coverage. Super Time at Superbowl Party Krys Johnson was a gracious host of our annual Super Bowl party on Sunday February 2nd. With a fantastic spread of food and the big game ready to kick off, George Duffy asked for takers on an incredible bet that a safety would not be the first score. Karen Young raised her hand, and before you knew it she was $ 50 richer thanks to the Broncos messing up their first snap. And oh yeah Nice shot Tom Woods the Seahawks took care of the Broncos. Poker Night Recap Buffalo Wild Wings in Southington was the site of HASGA s first Texas Hold Em video poker event. Lots of raises, bids, bluffs, and calls. But most important lots of laughs. Attending were (with their video poker nicknames) Les Fester McCoy, Diana Di Swenhall, Sue Joker Roarty, Dave Magic Walstrom, Nancy Nerd Elliot, Bill Dude Reilly, Rick Edgar Avery, and Cheryl Sparky Woodin. Sheldon Lubin and Krys Johnson joined the group, but just watched the video madness. 5 ORLANDO S SUNSHINE FLING MARCH 21-24, 2014 We are returning to the beautiful Mission Inn Resort for the 2014 ASGA Orlando Sunshine Fling. Come enjoy the SUN and temperatures in the low 80's and evening lows in the 70's. We all had such a wonderful time in 2013 we decided to return for all the fun. Once you arrive all beverages will be HAPPY HOUR priced until you depart. That is the first new twist. We also added a second night of dancing in the lounge and pool deck area with games and pool tables. In 2013 we had 94 ASGA members from all over the country and we look for 120 members to attend the fun this year. Please register early and mail your check to have your spot for this fun event. Don't be left in the cold. Mission Inn is an inspired Spanish colonial architecture surrounded by lush rolling hills, located just 35 minutes north of Orlando and it's attractions. You get two championship golf courses, plenty of outdoor rec-reation, well -appointed rooms, and award winning culinary delights. Activities include fitness center, marina and boat rentals, skeet shooting, archery, tennis, spa, outdoor pool, hiking trails and volleyball. The resort traces back to 1916 carved out of orange groves and named the Floridian Country Club. Since 1969 another course was added, a clubhouse and the resort. The historic El Campeon course has 85 foot elevation changes and the Los Colinas course offers rolling terrain and very long, both courses have very challenging greens. 6 ASGA WESTERN REUNION May 30-June 1, 2014 Every year we have a May golf outing and National has one back east over Memorial Weekend. They annually call theirs The Reunion. So this year we have tabbed ours The Western Reunion. We have also picked a location that most of the members of western chapters of ASGA can get to easily. It s Carson City, home of The Devine Nine, located 30 minutes south of the Reno-Tahoe Airport in Nevada s Capital City. We have scheduled golf on Saturday, May 31st and Sunday, June 1st allowing those to travel home late on the 1st or take Monday off and travel then. Golf is scheduled for Dayton Valley on Saturday and Sunridge on Sunday, both beautiful layouts. We have a two night, two golf day package with a dinner on Saturday night plus breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday. The standard package includes lodging, golf, two breakfasts and Saturday dinner. We have both single and double occupancy available. We will be staying at the Gold Dust Resort Hotel and Casino.
