After passing the 500 metres was held up when unable obtain a clear run before shifting out from behind the heels of Totally Kaptivated near the 300 metres and obtaining a narrow run. Totally Kaptivated Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the lead. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality.

At the entrance to the home straight was hampered when tightened for room between Invincible Amici and Tarcoola Spirit (Ben Melham), which was shifting out from behind the heels of Totally Kaptivated, which also shifted out slightly, to improve its position. Galileoos Pearl Rider Luke Nolen stated that in his opinion the gelding may not have been suited by the quick back up from its previous start and may have come to the end of its preparation.
