In assessing penalty the Stewards took into account the amount of whip use inside the final 100m. He was also severely reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. Praecereus (NZ) Approaching the 1200m had to be checked severely when overracing to avoid the heels of Crocodile Rock (IRE) and in doing so shifted in inconveniencing Stone Warrior (NZ). Tycoon Felix Rider Craig Newitt reported that his mount was awkward to begin. Deja Blue When weakening near the 200m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between Rocknrollrock and Lotza Focus which shifted out slightly under pressure. Rider Ben Thompson could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Portman (NZ) Rider Craig Williams explained that there was no prerace intention to take up a forward position today given at its previous starts where the gelding has been slow to begin. However after jumping well he was caught wide and therefore made the decision to go forward. Red Alto - Unable to improve its position from the 400m until the 200m when unable to obtain clear running before making ground over the concluding stages. Secret Prophet (NZ) - Cast its off fore plate in running. Race 6 standish handicap metres: Inspector Inconvenienced at the start after being bumped by Divine Mr Artie which jumped in. Domesday Warrior Cast its off fore plate in running. Rough Justice Rider Damian Lane stated that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Odyssey Moon Trainer Robert Smerdon was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance as opposed to the horses first up run at Flemington 17 December 2016 where it finished last. He explained that the horse benefited in fitness being first up from a long spell

5 and that the horse didnt appreciate interference early in that race being placed in tight room for some distance, particularly being a stallion. He added today the horse drew a good barrier, obtained plenty of racing room and ultimately was able to lead given the slow early speed and confirmed that it was not any intention pre race to lead but they were the circumstances given the way the race unfolded. The Stewards noted the sectional times first 600m was run in as opposed to the final 600m in Lonrockstar Rider Luke Nolen was questioned regarding his ride and he explained that his instructions were to ride his mount quietly and endeavour to weave through the field as the gelding will not perform if exposed too early without any cover. He added that at various stages he had difficulty obtaining clear runs and that his mounts chances were not suited by the slow tempo in the first half of the race. His explanation was noted. Race 7 bagot handicap metres: Sly Romance (NZ) Acting on a phone call from trainer Richard Laming advising that the gelding was lame, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Sly Romance (NZ) at 12.35pm Cinnamon Carter Connections advised it was intended for the mare to be ridden forward with an apparent lack of pace in the race. Led by a big margin and weakened in the straight. Tunes Turned its head just prior to the start being effected subsequently being slow to begin and from the wide draw settled at the rear of the field. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Arianne Shifted out abruptly passing the 200m inconveniencing Anemoi by taking that horse out off its course. Anemoi Hampered near the 200m after being taken out off its course by another runner. Hes A Genius (NZ) Raced wide without cover. Lord Van Percy (GB) Rider Luke Nolen could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Annus Mirabilis (IRE) Rider Regan Bayliss was fined $500 for breaching the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m. Race 8 summer racing handicap metres: Sanaya Connections advised it was their intention to have the mare ridden further back with cover from the wide gate. Jumped awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field. Had difficulty in obtaining clear running after passing the 400m until approaching the 200m. La Speciale Jumped away awkwardly making contact with the hindquarters of Loveitt.
