1 Moonee Valley Racing Club - Night Racing Date: Friday December 16 th 2016 Track: Good 4 (Races 1-4); Good 8.07pm (Races 5-8) Penetrometer: 4.56 Weather: Fine Rail: +5m entire circuit Stewards Panel: Mr Corie Waller (Chairman), Mr Darren Triandafillou, Mr Brent Scarlett & Ms Stella Stevenson (Cadet) Other Comments / Explanations: A number of runners were late on course due to traffic difficulties. An inquiry was adjourned to the Cranbourne meeting next Friday December 23 rd, into comments made to rider Jake Duffy in the vicinity of the mounting yard by float driver Mr Bob Krog. Race 1 - William Hill Plate metres: Lovology - began awkwardly and was then bumped by Marwinzig. Rider Remi Tremsal reported his mount raced greenly throughout. Marwinzig - began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with Lovology. Run To Paradise - slow to begin. Very Dogmatic (NZ) - began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover. Armenia - got its head up near the 800m after shifting inwards and away abruptly from Very Dogmatic (NZ). Rider Dwayne Dunn reported his mount was disappointing but would probably be better suited over 1400m and added that the mare was very timid in amongst other runners and may be suited when in a position with more galloping room. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. As there was information from the Bet Monitoring Team that a substantial amount had been traded on BetFair, Stewards questioned the stable who reported that the mare had trialled well following its last start where it had attempted to buck, and it had also worked well and the stable were expecting a forward showing. The stable also undertook to advise Stewards of how the mare pulls up.

2 Fontein Flyer - rounding the home turn was crowded for room to the inside of Armenia which shifted in and away from Marwinzig which was racing tightly to its outside. Aghna - laid in under pressure in the home straight. Korrupt Girl - rider Dean Yendall reported that when under pressure passing the 500m the mare did not respond to his riding and did not feel right on pulling up. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery. Race 2 - Art Series Hotel Group Handicap metres: Sly Romance (NZ) - trainer Mr Richard Laming was fined $200 for failing to notify that the concussion plates had been removed from the gelding and incorrectly removing the blinkers from its gear. Verreaux (NZ) - underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of rider Linda Meech and was passed suitable to race. Linda Meech reported her mount pulled up distressed. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Post race endoscopy detected a degree of mucus that may have affected the geldings racing performance and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. Rock Away - began awkwardly. Black Soul - slow to begin. Shez Ektraordinary (NZ) - slow to begin. Eased out of the race near the 600m and rider Craig Newitt felt there was something amiss with the mare. An irregular heart rhythm was detected on post race veterinary examination. The mare must be subject to examination by a veterinarian with specialist qualifications in equine internal medicine, prior to starting in any race or trial. The examination should include echocardiography, electrocardiography at rest and at exercise and any other examination that the examining veterinarian requests. Prior to starting in any race, and pending Stewards receiving a satisfactory veterinary report from the specialist examination, such horses must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards in an organised trial of at least 1000m and have a satisfactory veterinary report that includes the results of cardiac auscultation within thirty minutes of completion of the trial. Real Jazz (IRE) - rider Katelyn Mallyon dismounted on pulling up due to the mare suffering an injury. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Bullish Stock (NZ) - rider Dylan Dunn reported that after commencing awkwardly, he settled further back than he had anticipated and with the lack of speed through the middle stages the gelding over-raced and as a result it failed to finish the race off as expected. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. The stable reported the gelding had worked well in the lead up to tonights event and had presented better in the mounting yard than at its previous start and added the gelding needs genuine speed in the race for it to finish off strongly. A swab sample was also taken for analysis.

3 Race 3 - ADAPT Australia Handicap metres: Anatola - second placegetter; prior to correct weight rider Damien Oliver viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Held up when unable to obtain a clear run from the 300m until gaining a run to the inside of Scandimania over the final 100m. When being held up near the 150m was disappointed for a run between Kurkova and Scandimania, both of which shifted ground. Jinx - began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up for a clear run from the 400m and until on straightening near the 200m. Settlers Road - was slow to begin. Jstar - slow to begin and was then steadied from the heels of Pantheress which shifted in. Rider Daniel Moor reported his mount hung out and felt amiss in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had sustained a laceration to its off fore cannon and was lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Pantheress - raced wide without cover. Sullivan Bay - raced wide without cover. Miss Gidget - rider Ben Thompson reported his mount did not appreciate racing tight in amongst other horses. Stewards interviewed stable foreman Mr Don Healy regarding comments made during a post race interview. Stewards accepted Mr Healys explanation and took the matter no further. Race 4 - Inglis 55 Second Challenge Heat metres: Mystified - connections advised would be ridden further back with cover; settled back with cover. Held up for a short distance passing the 400m and again on straightening and gained a tight run near the 150m between Divertente and Mr Dashing. Segovia - near the 400m was checked when disappointed when attempting a tight run where there was barely sufficient room between Rylea Lass, which shifted out slightly, and Mr Dashing which after receiving pressure on its hindquarters shifted in; rider Beau Mertens was severely reprimanded for attempting a narrow run. Near the 50m when improving shifted in under pressure and was steadied from the heels of Mr Dashing. Not Approved - rider Dean Yendall reported his mount did not feel right in its action in the early stages and for this reason he eased it down. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

4 Divertente - rider Ben Thompson reported his mount may have come to the end of its preparation. The track was upgraded from Good 4 to Good 8.07pm after the running of this race. Race 5 - Nelson Alexander Handicap metres: Go Down - rider Brad Rawiller was harmlessly dislodged en route to the barriers. Slow to begin and then had to be restrained when awkwardly placed on the heels of Definia. Held up for a short distance approaching the 400m. Brad Rawiller stated that after the mare began awkwardly, it settled further back than expected and he added that it was held up near the 400m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Kilowatt - began awkwardly making contact with Stingray. Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider Dylan Dunn stated that after begin awkwardly, he was unable to obtain cover on the gelding resulting in him racing wide and did not run on when under pressure. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. Stingray - bumped at the start. Rider Jordan Childs reported his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages however did not respond to his riding passing the 400m. Post race endoscopy detected a degree of internal exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage that may have affected the geldings racing performance and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. A Private Party - steadied shortly after the start from the heels of Ha Long Bay which shifted in and away from Definia. Ha Long Bay - got its head up near the 700m when over-racing close to the heels of Kilowatt. Manihi Mischief - lost its off hind plate in running. A Private Party - lost its near hind plate in running. Race 6 - Shop for Shops Handicap metres: Humorous Bet - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 7.31am. Spring Action - connections advised would be ridden quieter; settled mid-field with cover. Held up for a clear run from the 600m until the 150m. Baubo - connections advised would be ridden closer from the inside draw; settled behind the leader. Held up for a clear run from the 600m until approaching the 100m where it gained a tight run to the inside of Fiona Crystal.

5 Destination Tucson - connections advised would be ridden quieter; began awkwardly and lost ground and settled at the rear of the field. When the pace slackened near the 1500m began to over-race for some distance. Liming (NZ) - eased passing the winning post on the first occasion to avoid the heels of Destination Tucson, which had been taken in by Spring Action. When the pace slackened near the 1500m began to over-race for some distance. Continued to over-race in the middle stages. Checked, clipped heels and blundered near the 150m. Oceirins Secret (NZ) - approaching the 100m momentarily steadied when tightened for room between Liming (NZ) and Justiceforall which shifted in slightly when laying in. Choux Diva - over the concluding stages was held up for a clear run when improving. Justiceforall - rider Brad Rawiller stated that although the gelding was having its third run for the stable, it was its first attempt at the distance and ran on fairly, he believes it will be better suited with this run under its belt. A post race veterinary examination revealed some heat stress. Luke Nolen (Spring Action) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that near the 150m he permitted his mount to shift out when not sufficiently clear of Liming (NZ) which had to be checked and clipped the heels of Spring Action. Luke Nolen had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight December 18 th and to expire at midnight December 28 th, a total of ten race meetings (three metropolitan, seven provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Luke Nolens guilty plea and record, the racing manners of Liming (NZ) and that the carelessness was in the mid-range. Race 7 - LF Sign Group Handicap metres: Proverb - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 1.05pm. Global Assault (NZ) - connections advised would be ridden quieter. Approaching the 300m clipped the heels of Relentless and almost fell. Relentless - slow into stride. Raced wide in the early stages and eventually settled outside the leader near the 1000m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore fetlock and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Decoupez - bumped on several occasions near the 900m by Tempered (Ben Thompson) which was attempting to obtain a position one off the fence; Ben Thompson will be spoken to advisedly. Am I There Yet - raced wide without cover. Rider Brad Rawiller reported his mount did not feel right in its action from the 700m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

6 Lunar Spin - for some distance approaching the 400m was held up for clear running and then again for a short distance rounding the home turn. Siga La Vaca - near the 100m had to be eased to avoid the heels of Tempered which shifted out after initially being bumped outwards by Lunar Spin which had shifted out to improve to the outside of Decoupez which had then shifted out when laying out. As Stewards felt there were a number of factors to the incident, no action was taken on any one rider. Flex - a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Dwayne Dunn (Lunar Spin) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that approaching the 300m when attempting a run to the inside of Tempered he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Relentless which was taken in thereby resulting in Global Assault (NZ) being tightened for room and having to be severely checked. Dwayne Dunn had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight December 17 th and to expire at midnight December 26 th, a total of nine race meetings (three metropolitan, six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and excellent record, the factors surrounding the incident, the contribution from Tempered, and that the incident was deemed in the mid-range. Race 8 - Simpson Construction Handicap metres: Forty Nine Riddles - underwent a veterinary examination after getting its leg up in its starting stall and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 10.01pm. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near hind leg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. All monies invested on Forty Nine Riddles to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 10.01pm: 1 cents in the dollar for the Win #4, 1 cent in the dollar for place of winner #4, 2 cents in the dollar for second place #7 and 2 cents in the dollar for third place #8. Prepee - connections advised it was the intention to lead; settled behind the leaders. Hot Ruby - began awkwardly. More Spark - hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between Simple Solution which was taken out by Ballybrit and Playful Rosie. Simple Solution - passing the 1200m had to be eased outwards to avoid the heels of Shes Got Speed and as a result made contact with Playful Rosie. Playful Rosie - raced wide without cover. Rider Jordan Childs stated his mount would appreciate a track with more give. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Royal Applause - had some difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.

7 Shes Got Speed - rider Daniel Moor reported his mount was wide in the early stages and for this reason he allowed it to stride forward an obtain a position outside the leader near the 1200m.
