Mr Dunn indicated he intends to space Medieval's runs in future. Race 7: TAB Chipping Norton Stakes (Group 1) 1600m Hartnell stable representative Mr B Jackson-Stopps reported the stable was satisfied with the post-race condition of the gelding and could only attribute the disappointing performance to Hartnell's demanding run three wide on a heavy track. He indicated it is the intention to continue with Hartnell's preparation. Race 9: Byron Thomas Recruitment Handicap 1200m Lofty's Menu trainer Mr J Bateman reported that he was satisfied with the post-race condition of the gelding, but attributed the performance to the heavy track. He added Lofty's Menu was given a quiet week at home as it is the stable's intention to continue with the gelding's preparation. RACE 1: Affinity Shipping Resiling Stakes (Group 2) 1200m Lucky Louie the filly, which got its off-hind leg momentarily on the running board, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Slow to begin. Rider G Schofield explained that the filly was somewhat keen in the early and middle stages and did not handle today's heavy track conditions, which was the principal reason for its failure today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr A Cummings was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Lucky Louie racing again. Frolic slow to begin. From Within made contact with Star Sensation at the start. Star Sensation made contact with From Within at the start.

2 2 She Will Reign linking up with the course proper the filly, which was inclined to race keenly, was eased when placed close to the heels of From Within. She Will Reign then continued to race keenly for a short distance thereafter. In the early part of the straight was awkwardly placed close to the heels of From Within when that runner shifted wider to improve. RACE 2: UNSW Todman Stakes (Group 2) 1200m Menari after arriving on course, the colt, which sustained a cut to the off-side portion of its mouth and was withdrawn last week from its engagement at Randwick, was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Near the 250m made contact with Invader due primarily to that runner shifting ground out. When questioned, rider T Clark stated he had anticipated taking up a forward position on the colt, however on jumping his mount commenced awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the hindquarter of Veranillo and lost some ground. He said as a consequence he elected not to ride his mount forward with a view then to shifting out and obtaining a position wider on the track as he felt the ground, particularly in the straight, towards the outside was superior. T Clark added that his mount travelled well in the run and, after initially responding to his riding and improving into the race like a winning chance, the colt's condition in his opinion gave out inside the 200m soon after making contact with Invader, which he felt was reflective of the colt not having raced for 48 days. He said, having regard to today's heavy track conditions, Menari would also derive benefit from today's run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr G Ryan was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Menari racing again. Perast raced keenly in the early and middle stages. RACE 3: Bradley Australia Fireball Stakes (Listed) 1100m Honesty Prevails slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Faith's Encore slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly bled for the first time. Co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden was advised Faith's Encore would incur the mandatory three month bar from racing. Ma Tante raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Hung in rounding the home turn and in the straight under pressure. Near the 100m shifted in and bumped Gloriette. Samantha making the home turn was held up on the heels of Gloriette. Near the 450m Samantha then shifted out to improve to the outside of Gloriette and in doing so became awkwardly placed close to the heels of that runner and made contact with Ma Tante. Scarlet Rain when questioned regarding the performance, A Hyeronimus stated that the filly travelled comfortably in the lead throughout the early stages, however soon after straightening when placed under pressure did not respond to his riding. He added in his opinion, whilst Scarlet Rain has displayed some ability to handle rain affected going as a two-year-old, he felt the primary reason for the filly's disappointing performance was its failure to handle today's Heavy (10) conditions. A post-race veterinary examination found the filly to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer Mr A Bott advised Stewards that he agreed with the assessment of A Hyeronimus in that Scarlet Rain had not coped with today's track conditions. He said the filly had no issues since its second placing at Rosehill on 18 February 2017 and

3 3 had galloped on Tuesday, 28 February 2017 without incident and that piece of work had been pleasing. Mr Bott added that prior to today's race the stable had advised the owners that the filly was expected to run competitively. Stewards requested Mr Bott worksheets and treatment records as they were concerned relative to the significant betting drift of the filly, which opened on course at $2.50 favourite before easing to a starting price of $4.80, coupled with the fact it tailed off. After being provided with the stable's worksheets, treatment records and the advice that had been sent to the filly's owners on 2 March 2017, the Stewards were satisfied that the records showed there were no issues with Scarlet Rain in the lead up to today's race and the records confirmed that the filly had worked reasonably well on Tuesday, 28 February 2017 when ridden by jockey T Clark. The matter was adjourned so that the Stewards could review the betting activity on the race. Stewards ruled that the performance of Scarlet Rain was unsatisfactory and it would be required to barrier trial to their satisfaction prior to its next race start. RACE 4: Schweppes Wenona Girl Quality (Group 3) 1200m Alucinari made contact with Zestful on jumping. Linking up with the course proper near the 900m shifted out, resulting in Savoureux being taken wider and making contact with Serene Majesty. Zestful made contact with Alucinari on jumping. Queen Of Kariba shortly after the start was inconvenienced when crowded between Savoureux and Serene Majesty, both of which shifted ground slightly. Rocket Commander near the 200m was awkwardly placed briefly on the heels of Hieroglyphics when that runner shifted out wider on the track to improve. Savoureux rider B Avdulla stated that at no stage did the mare feel comfortable and was a beaten horse soon after straightening. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 5: Canterbury BMW Stakes (Group 1) 1300m Chautauqua slow to begin. When questioned regarding his riding, T Berry stated, with the gelding stepping up in distance today, he was mindful not to push his mount along as it can have a tendency to overrace when stepping up in distance. He said as a consequence he allowed Chautauqua to settle at the rear of the field and, with the tempo being reasonably quick in the early stages, he felt as the field approached the home turn his mount would be able to make ground on the runners in front before then coming to the outside. He added that approaching the 600m when he was of the view the runners in front, particularly Hauraki and Too Good To Refuse, were not going to take him into the event, he elected to improve to the inside of Too Good To Refuse in order to save ground. T Berry further stated, after improving along the fence, he then commenced to shift off in order to find better ground in the straight, but had to wait for several strides to continue to shift out so as to ensure he was clear of Music Magnate. He said, after his mount got to the front near the 150m, he was able to obtain a position to the outside of the track, whereby his mount continued to respond well to his riding before being beaten by a narrow margin by the winner Le Romain. Ugo Foscolo began awkwardly. Rider J Parr advised that he was instructed to go forward on the gelding and lead. He said, having regard to the fact Ugo Foscolo had had two barrier trials leading into today's race and in particular its 1200m trial at Randwick on 20 February

4 4 2017, he elected to set a solid tempo in the early stages. J Parr added soon after straightening his mount immediately became under pressure and weakened noticeably in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding lost its near-hind plate and was displaying a poor post-race recovery. Co-trainer Mr A Bott advised the Stewards that in his view, whilst Ugo Foscolo had established form on rain affected going in New Zealand, he felt today the gelding, racing first up, had failed to handle today's heavy track conditions. He added that Ugo Foscolo had pleased the stable in the lead up to today's race and in particular had trialled well on 20 February Stewards ruled the performance of the gelding to be unsatisfactory in that I was beaten 24.1 lengths from the winner Le Romain and in the circumstances ordered that Ugo Foscolo must barrier trial to their satisfaction prior to its next race start. Hauraki. near the 300m Impending and Hauraki raced tight to the outside of Le Romain (G Schofield), which shifted wider on the track in order to improve. G Schofield was advised to exercise more care. Japonisme making the home turn and in the early part of the straight was held up between Music Magnate and Ugo Foscolo. Near the 300m shifted out abruptly and wider on the track in order to improve. RACE 6: Hyland Race Colours Challenge Stakes (Group 2) 1000m Ball Of Muscle slow to begin. Rider T Berry reported the gelding did not handle today's heave track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding abraded its off-hind bumper and was displaying a poor post-race recovery. Redzel knuckled on jumping. Felines on straightening was hampered by Ball Of Muscle, which shifted out Kentucky Miss held up for clear running in the early part of the straight. Dal Cielo approaching the 300m had to be checked to avoid the heels of Supido (L Nolen) which, after being taken out by Redzel (K McEvoy), then shifted out away from that runner. Both L Nolen and K McEvoy were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. When questioned regarding the performance, rider G Schofield stated his mount was forced to race wide throughout the event, but soon after straightening became under pressure. He added, whilst Dal Cielo lost its running near the 350m, he felt at the time his mount was giving ground and was under significant pressure. The post-race condition of Dal Cielo will be followed up with trainer Mr K Lees. RACE 7: Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (Group 1) 1600m Comin' Through on jumping Comin' Through and Harper's Choice were buffeted for room between Invincible Gem and Captain Duffy, both of which began awkwardly and shifted ground. Laid out under pressure for some distance approaching the 200m. Harper's Choice shortly after straightening was hampered and obliged to shift back to the inside when Man From Uncle shifted out in advance of it in order to improve. Impavido near the 200m was tightened for room by Man From Uncle (J Collett), which shifted out when not quite clear. J Collett was reprimanded.

5 5 Man From Uncle close to the finish became unbalanced when bumped by Impavido, which shifted in slightly. Acatour rider B Shinn stated, after being slow to begin, he made some use of his mount to take up a midfield position, but it was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. He added the only excuse he could offer was that Acatour may not have handled today's heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Malaise rider Z Purton stated the only explanation he could offer for the performance was that his mount failed to handle today's heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Manolo Blahniq a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. RACE 8: City Ford Group Aspiration Quality (Group 3) 1600m Tsaritsa began awkwardly. Top Of My List near the 1300 when inclined to race keenly had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Countess Marinov (P King), which shifted in when not clear. P King was reprimanded and advise to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. When questioned regarding the performance, rider K McEvoy stated his mount travelled satisfactorily in the early stages, however, making the home turn when Queen Of Wands improved to his outside, he was obliged to race in restricted room between that runner and Countess Marinov, which shifted out slightly. He added his mount resented racing in this position and as a consequence did not respond to his efforts to maintain his position and, further, was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a healing wound to the inside of the near-fore cannon region. Sewreel soon after straightening Vandancer had to be steadied when crowded for room between Top Of My List and Tsaritsa (J Moreira), which shifted out. Vandancer was then obliged to shift in slightly to avoid the heels of Tsaritsa, resulting in Ambience, which was shifting out, having to be directed away from the heels of Vandancer, shifting in and bumping heavily with Sewreel, resulting in both Sewreel and Ambience becoming badly unbalanced. J Moreira was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out. Moqueen a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 9: Girvan Waugh Randwick City Stakes (Listed) 2000m Kinema due to the slow early tempo, overraced badly throughout early and middle stages. Montauk when questioned regarding the gelding being ridden back in the field, T Berry stated he was aware Montauk has a tendency to race keenly in its races when left without cover and for this reason, when his mount began fairly from a wide barrier, he elected to come back immediately and find cover and as a consequence raced somewhat further back than he had anticipated.

6 6 Bills A Goodie rider P King stated his mount travelled satisfactorily in the lead, but did not handle the heavy track conditions when asked to improve from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. GENERAL: Summary of whip use Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii): Race 1: T Berry (Frolic) 8 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 7: T Berry (Inference) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.
