Race 4: Ranvet Handicap 1550m Austin trainer Mr C Waller advised the gelding will be spelled. Race 8: Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1250m Upstart trainer Mr K Lees advised the gelding had been scoped this morning and there were no adverse issues in respect of its condition. He confirmed that Upstart can be somewhat inconsistent in its races, notwithstanding this he was of the view that the gelding is better suited when able to race on firmer tracks than that of last night. ROSEHILL GARDENS Saturday 28 January 2014 Race 9: tab.com.au Handicap 1350m Twist Tops trainer Mr K Lees stated it was the intention, as advised to the Stewards at its previous start at Warwick Farm, for the filly to be ridden in a forward position, however due to the circumstances of the race, Twist Tops settled midfield. He said, similarly, in this event the intention was to race prominently and in the early stages when it appeared that the filly could be caught wide the rider was more positive, and in order to compensate for this factor, he ultimately had Twist Tops setting a genuine tempo in the lead. ROYAL RANDWICK Saturday 14 January 2017 Race 6: TAB Handicap 2400m Thewayweare Stewards today concluded an inquiry opened relevant to B Spriggs' handling of the gelding in this event and in particular the fast early tempo set. After considering all the evidence, Stewards advised B Spriggs that he had made an error of judgement in the middle stages in that when Zatopaz had improved to his outside near the 1200m, he should have allowed that runner to cross his mount rather than continuing to contest the lead, which generated additional tempo in what was already a fast run event. In deciding not to issue a charge to B Spriggs under AR135(b), the Stewards were mindful of the fact that Thewayweare is a horse that races best when able to lead and dictate in its races and his error of judgement was for a minor portion of the race. B Spriggs was advised that in future

2 2 he would be required to show greater judgement than he did on this occasion, particularly when he acknowledged that during the race he was aware the early tempo of the event was fast. RANDWICK TRACKWORK Wednesday 4 January 2017 House Of Lords Stewards today inquired into the reason for the three-year-old gelding breaking down in the off-foreleg and subsequently being euthanised when it was found to have fractures to the medial and lateral sesamoid bones in that leg. Evidence today was taken from co-trainer Mr A Bott and Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian Dr C Suann. Stewards also considered a report from Dr Sophia Sommerauer, a veterinarian from Randwick Equine Centre, which confirmed the injury. Mr Bott explained that House Of Lords had only recently entered his stable and that it had no pre-existing conditions or injuries leading into the day in question. He added that House Of Lords had only been in the early part of its preparation, whereby it was completing slow pace work. Having considered the veterinary and stable records, which showed no treatments to the gelding, the inquiry was concluded on the basis that there were no pre-existing conditions that could have given rise to this injury. RACE 1: Alm Handicap 2000m Montauk had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight when endeavouring to shift to the outside of the heels of More Than Fabulous. King's Officer making the home turn More Than Fabulous shifted out to improve, resulting in Vassal being taken out onto King's Officer, which was then forced to make the home turn wide. Vassal near the 150m the gelding, which was giving ground, was eased when crowed for room between King's Officer and Montauk, which was taken out slightly by More Than Fabulous. More Than Fabulous a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which failed to run on, revealed it to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr D Payne advised the gelding would now be spelled. RACE 2: Hinchinbrook Plate (Listed) 1100m Lightz co-trainer Mr G Lee was fined $100 under AR53C for failing to notify that Lightz had been gelded since its last start. Near the 250m, when endeavouring to improve into a narrow run between Eden Roc and Veranillo, Lightz brushed the hindquarter of Veranillo and was eased. Lightz was then obliged to shift around the heels of Veranillo and Cuba in order to obtain clear running passing the 150m. When Cuba shifted out near the 100m Lightz was then shifted back to the inside to continue to improve. Exceeds from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted back in across runners after the start. Eden Roc made contact with Ace High at the start. Raced keenly in the lead. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt, which required treatment by the Club's Veterinary Officer, had been galloped on to the off-hind hock. Rider T Berry reported that after obtaining the lead, with winkers on for the first time today, Eden Roc pulled hard and refused to settle throughout the early and middle stages.

3 3 Ace High made contact with Eden Roc at the start. Approaching the 900m struck the heels of Eden Roc and blundered when crowded for room between Veranillo, which shifted out slightly, and Eden Roc (T Berry), which hung in in the early stages. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of Eden Roc were the principal reason for it shifting and the Stewards were similarly satisfied T Berry had made sufficient effort to straighten his mount, he was nonetheless advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. RACE 3: Schweppes Gardenia Handicap 1600m Allergic - from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted back in across runners after the start. Song And Laughter - from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in across runners after the start. Religify raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Testashadow App. N Heywood stated that his mount travelled comfortably in the run, but was under pressure from the 600m when he endeavoured to make ground on the leaders. He added the only explanation he could offer was that Testashadow's second up record was not good and it may not have backed up from its win in the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast on 14 January A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. RACE 4: The Chi-X Sprint 1000m Runsati the start of this race was delayed when the gelding lost both its front plates during the preliminary. Runsati was then examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and cleared to race. The racecourse farrier was interviewed relative to the condition of the plates, who reported in his view the plates were in a satisfactory condition when Runsati was presented to race. Rider C Brown stated that his mount, which was having its first start this way of going, was not overly suited and when placed under pressure in the straight was inclined to shift ground on a number of occasions, which obliged him to have to stop riding and straighten. He added, once balanced inside the final 100m, his mount raced truly and finished the race off well. Bullpit slow to begin and then was checked away from the heels of Heart Testa, which shifted out on jumping. Overraced badly throughout the early and middle stages and for some distance approaching the 600m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Straturbo. Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight. Voilier began awkwardly. Rider A Banks stated, with the gelding coming back to the 1000m today, he was not too disappointed in its run and was satisfied with the manner in which it finished the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Nickson advised that Voilier had sustained a minor laceration to its hind leg during the run at Warwick Farm on 7 January 2017 and as a consequence he had freshened the gelding up for today's event. Mr Nickson was reminded of his obligation to notify Stewards of any occurrence in a race which mare affect a horse's performance. Denmagic - from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted back in across runners in the early stages. On straightening was inclined to lay in and became awkwardly placed on the heels of Dal Cielo for a number of strides.

4 4 His Majesty hampered near the 150m when Heart Testa shifted in. Aegean Sea a post-race veterinary examination revealed mare lost its near-fore plate in running. RACE 5: TAB Highway Handicap 1200m Supreme Lad after being slow to begin, was crowded between L'elu and Nicof, which shifted out. Steel Frost made contact with Touch Sensitive on jumping. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Touch Sensitive made contact with Steel Frost on jumping. Our Meteor - from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted back in across runners after the start. Super Star Bob passing the 800m the gelding, which was inclined to overrace, became awkward on the heels of Nicof, was steadied, shifted in and made contact with Steel Frost. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance near the 200m and at that point was shifted to the inside of Beau Hoffa to obtain clear running. Beau Hoffa raced wide without cover throughout. Nic's Vendetta raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. All Summer Long a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was displaying a poor post-race recovery and respiratory distress. Trainer Mr G Bennett was advised a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, would be required prior to All Summer Long racing again. RACE 6: Australian Chinese Jockey Club Eskimo Prince Stakes (Group 3) 1200m Guard Of Honour for some distance after the 900m Bryneich and Guard Of Honour raced tight inside Spending To Win (C Brown), which shifted in towards the rails when not clear. C Brown was reprimanded. Comin' Through laid out making the home turn. Bryneich raced greenly in the straight and near the 350m carried Man From Uncle and On The Spot wider. Near the 50m was inconvenienced when Generalissimo (T Angland) shifted out when not clear. T Angland was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. Rider B Avdulla stated that his mount raced a little flat today and the only explanation he could offer was that it was stepping up in grade and may not have backed up from its first start win on 20 January 2017 at Canterbury. Generalissimo shifted out under pressure inside the final 200m. Man From Uncle raced wide without cover throughout.

5 5 Bezel rider J Doyle stated that his mount jumped reasonably well, but then failed to travel at any stage throughout the event. He could offer no real explanation for today's performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying thumps. Trainer Mr J O'Shea was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the colt's next start. RACE 7: China Horse Club Breeders Classic (Group 2) 1200m In Her Time on Monday 30 January 2017 trainer Mr B Smith reported to Stewards that the mare had pulled up with some minor bruising to its near-fore heel, which resulted in the application of bar plates to both front hooves. Mr Smith indicated that In Her Time had pleased him in a barrier trial conducted at Newcastle on 25 January 2017 and in a track gallop on Thursday, 2 February Mr Smith tendered a veterinary clearance for the mare which, after arriving on course, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Danish Twist from its wide barrier got its head up was steadied and shifted in across runners after the start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Circular - from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in across runners after the start. When questioned regarding his riding, B Avdulla stated his mount settled towards the rear of the field as expected, but when the tempo increased when In Her Time went forward near the 600m his mount came under pressure to hold its position on the back of the field. He said on straightening, when placed under pressure, his mount was inclined to lay in and proved difficult to shift to the outside and for this reason approaching the 250m he contemplated taking a run between Danish Twist and French Emotion. B Avdulla added when that run closed he then elected to shift to the outside of Danish Twist inside the 100m, whereby Circular found the line strongly. Tsaritsa got its head up on jumping. Hung out rounding the home turn and got its head up. Near the 200m rider J Doyle accidentally dropped his whip. Flippant near the 800m shifted out around the heels of Magnajoy and in so doing carried In Her Time wider. I Am Zelady rider T Clark stated his mount travelled well in the run and, after responding to his riding in the early part of the straight, the mare was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. He added, although I Am Zelady had barrier trialled well at Randwick on 27 January 2017, it may have been feeling the effects of its tough run at the Gold Coast on 14 January A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. French Emotion a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs consistent to being in season. RACE 8: The Star Club Handicap 1600m Esteban began very awkwardly got its head up and made heavy contact with Invincible Knight, which was then taken across the heels of Liapari and lost ground. Mercurian began awkwardly.

6 6 Hogmanay leaving the 600m shifted out around the heels of Zaunkonig and in so doing made contact with Chestnut Road and carried that horse wider. Imanui raced keenly in the middle stages. For some distance near the 800m the gelding, which was travelling strongly, became unbalanced when racing tight to the inside of Hand From Above. Chestnut Road raced wide without cover throughout. Night Voyage raced wide without cover throughout. Snitzel Knight rider App. N Heywood stated his instructions were to be midfield, but with his mount stepping up in distance today and commencing very well, he elected to make use of the good start and take up a more forward position rather than being caught wide. He added in his view Snitzel Knight, although somewhat unsuited by racing more forward, may not have also handled today's step up in grade. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 9: It's On! In Sydney Handicap 1400m Nikitas slow to begin and then was hampered by Lie Direct. Rider G Schofield stated that his mount showed little interest in the run and he was obliged to make use of his mount to hold its position. He added when Art Nouveau struck interference in advance of him near the 500m from this point his mount failed to respond at any point to his riding and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth advised that Nikitas had pleased the stable leading up to today's first up performance and the stable undertook to report back on the progress of the colt subsequent to the race. We're Sure crowded on jumping by Roaring To Win, which began awkwardly and ran in despite the efforts of its rider. Disgraceful crowded on jumping between Tap That and Veladero. Art Nouveau near the 600m was briefly tightened by Tap That, which shifted in. Near the 500m Art Nouveau had to be checked when crowded by Tap That (B Spriggs), which shifted in when inclined to hang in. B Spriggs was reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to make greater effort than he did on this occasion to straighten his mount. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account B Spriggs had made some attempt to straighten his mount to prevent it from shifting in. Tap That hung in in the straight. Tower Of Song raced wide without cover throughout. Roaring To Win a post-race veterinary examination revealed a small abrasion to the nearside hock.

Race 5: All Summer Long, Steel Frost, Supreme Lad, Our Meteor, L'elu. Race 6: Comin' Through, Bezel, Man From Uncle (2), Guard Of Honour. Race 7: French Emotion, Tsarita, Magnajoy, Egyptian Symbol. Race 8: Esteban, Invincible Knight, Night Voyage, Chestnut Road, Mercurian, Imanui. Race 9: Veladero, Salthouse, Lie Direct, Got Unders.
