1 1 Weather: Fine Track: Heavy (8) Rail: +7m Penetrometer: 6.03 STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE Saturday 24 June 2017 STEWARDS: M F Van Gestel (Chairman), P C Dingwall, R W Livingstone, T P Moxon, D M Greer and cadets C K McIntosh and T D North RACE 1: McGrath Estate Agents Plate 1200m Music Addition prior to the declaration of correct weight the Stewards considered as to whether there were grounds for objection against 3 rd placegetter Star Galaxy, following Star Galaxy shifting out inside the 100m momentarily, taking Music Addition wider. When Stewards were satisfied that as Star Galaxy shifted out it was racing behind Music Addition and once both runners balanced up near the 50m, Star Galaxy then was able to make ground to take 3 rd placing. Stewards were of the view there were not sufficient grounds to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared. Approaching the 600m had to be steadied when crowded by Star Galaxy (G Schofield), which shifted in when not clear. G Schofield was advised to exercise more care. Coorg slow to begin. Florid slow to begin. Hung out making the home turn. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Evict began awkwardly. Rider B Avdulla stated his mount never travelled on the heavy track conditions and on a number of occasions in the middle stages blundered in the going. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Last Starfighter on straightening, when inclined to race greenly, shifted in towards the running rail and became unbalanced. RACE 2: Hyland EOFY Sale Handicap 1200m O Rachael fractious in the barrier prior to the start being effected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the left lower lip. Cadogan after being slow to begin, was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. The Pharoah a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Peaceful Sea a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

2 2 Ghostly when questioned, rider B Avdulla stated he was issued with no specific instructions, other than to ride his mount where comfortable. He said when his mount jumped only fairly he elected to take up a position back in the field to ensure his mount was able to obtain cover. He added, whilst he contemplated in the early stages following Jeanneau, when he was concerned that Jeanneau would be able to take up a position one off, which would have resulted in his mount being exposed wide without cover, he elected to take up a position on the back of Aquatic to ensure that he had cover. B Avdulla said that nearing the 800m, when he was satisfied that Jeanneau was going to remain three wide, he then elected to shift off to a three wide position, whereby he was able to obtain cover. He further stated that making the home turn he commenced to shift to the outside of Jeanneau and on straightening was momentarily hampered when Jeanneau was taken out by Aquatic. He said in his opinion his mount was forced to race in the inferior going out wide, whereby it found it difficult to make up ground, particularly with the slow early pace, and once his mount was able to shift in closer to the rail near the 100m, he was able to take more ground from the winner Memes. Trainer Mr D Beadman advised he instructed the rider at its most recent start to be positive in the early stages as the race looked to lack a genuine tempo. He said today, with the envisaged good early speed, whilst not giving any specific instructions, he did advise B Avdulla to ensure the gelding had some cover. RACE 3: Schweppes Handicap 1400m Stilettoed Vixen slow to begin and then, despite being ridden along, did not muster speed. Inclined to overrace in the early stages. Heavenly Anna when questioned, J Ford stated he was issued with no specific instructions. He said soon after the start he endeavoured to take a trailing position one off the fence behind Labdien in order to attempt to obtain cover. He added, when the tempo of the race continued to remain slow in the early stages, his munt was inclined to overrace and despite his efforts he was not able to get on the back of Labdien. J Ford further stated that when Stilettoed Vixen and Reiby Rampart were able to improve to his inside near the 1200m, he was then obliged to race three wide without cover for the majority of the event. He said that, whilst his mount was obliged to race without cover, he felt in the circumstances the run was still somewhat disappointing and expressed the view that the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Labdien a post-race veterinary examination the mare had dislodged a lower incisor tooth. Reiby Rampart - when questioned regarding his riding making the home turn and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the outside, G Schofield stated that prior to the commencement of today s meeting he had walked the track, whereby he had formed the view that a section of the track wider than four off was inferior. He said accordingly, when issued with his instructions, he advised the connections his intention was to ride the mare and take runs to his inside. G Schofield further stated as a consequence, whilst he was aware that a spot was available on the back of Heavenly Anna making the home turn, he elected to wait and take a run between Labdien and Love s A Fantasy in the early part of the straight. He said, whilst his mount was racing in restricted room, he was always able to ride his mount forward and, after shifting to the outside of Test The World near the 200m, his mount was able to finish the race off strongly in what he perceived as the better going.

3 3 Love s A Fantasy rider App. J Innes Jr reported that his whip became caught underneath the breast plate as the start was effected and for this reason near the 1100m he was obliged to alter his hold on the rein to place the whip in the correct position. RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1200m Bulala trainer Mr P J Morgan was fined $50 for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card for the gelding. Over the final 75m could not be properly tested when Runway Ready shifted in towards his running. Conniving jumped awkwardly. Atlantic Sentinel began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Unyielding. Leaving the 800m was crowded for room when Plucky Star shifted in and away from Runway Ready. Rider App. A Adkins stated that the gelding travelled well in the run and was inconvenienced at the 800m when crowded. He said the only explanation he could offer for today s performance was that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation and was not entirely comfortable on today s heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr K Dryden undertook to report back on the progress and the future race plans for Atlantic Sentinel in the days subsequent. Barricade from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. On straightening became awkward on the heels of Plucky Star when being shifted to that runner s outside to obtain clear running. Inclined to race greenly in the straight over the final 200m, hung in and proved difficult to ride out. Runway Ready raced wide without cover after the 800m. unbalanced when bumped by Barricade, which shifted in. Near the 200m became Vee Eight overraced in the middle stages and approaching the 600m when being restrained away from the heels of Conniving, which shifted out, resulting in Runway Ready being carried wider. Unyielding a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 5: Ron Finemore Transport Handicap 2400m Epsom Hill knuckled on jumping. Making the home turn hung out and shifted wider on the track. Collateral from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Get On The Grange raced keenly in the middle stages, resulting in its rider App. J Innes Jr allowing the gelding to stride forward near the 900m, whereby it raced wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Taken wider on the home turn when Epsom Hill hung out. Northern Journey - taken wider on the home turn when Epsom Hill hung out. Near the 150m was crowded between Epsom Hill and Get On The Grange (App. J Innes Jr), which shifted in. App. Innes Jr was advised to exercise more care. Over the concluding stages was inconvenienced when Epsom Hill shifted out slightly.

4 4 Danjeu a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Richard Of Yorke rider B Avdulla stated the gelding travelled comfortably in the lead, setting only a moderate early tempo. He advised near the 600m his mount commenced to give ground and when he was concerned something may have been amiss with it, as they made the home turn he eased it down from that point. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller advised that Richard Of Yorke had pleased the stable since its last start over 3200m on 10 June He could offer no explanation for today s disappointing performance. Mr Waller undertook to report back to the Stewards the results of a full veterinary examination when the gelding returns to the stables. Stewards ruled that Richard Of Yorke must trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to race again.subsequent to Race 9 Mr Waller advised that a endoscopic examination that was conducted on return to the stables revealed that Richard Of Yorke was displaying mucous in its lungs. Mr Waller advised that Richard Of Yorke will now undergo treatment and he will furnish a veterinary clearance prior to Richard Of Yorke barrier trialling. RACE 6: Racing To Win Handicap 1600m Old North slow to begin. Rounding the home turn raced in restricted room between Loophole and Berry Delicious (K O'Hara) as that runner commenced to shift out. In this incident Old North was reluctant to hold its position between those two runners and as a consequence became unbalanced and lost ground. On straightening Old North was then steadied away from the heels of Berry Delicious (K O'Hara) when that runner shifted out when not clear. K O'Hara was reprimanded and advised to ensure she is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. Rider B Avdulla stated his intention was to take up a forward position on the gelding, but after being slow to begin, he elected to ride his mount towards the back of the field. He said that Old North was unsuited by the moderate early tempo, but was still disappointing in tis failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Loophole slow to begin. Overraced in the middle stages and for some distance near the 1000m was restrained from the heels of Liapari. Rider B Spriggs accidentally dropped his whip at the 200m. Destiny s Kiss slow to begin. Sultan Of Swing inclined to lay in in the early part of the straight and was reluctant to proceed into clear running to the outside of Sound Proposition for some distance after the 300m. App. J Innes Jr was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out fully to the finish of the race. Berry Delicious rider K O'Hara stated the only excuse she could offer for the disappointing run was the mare was unsuited by the moderate early tempo. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 7: Can Assist Winter Dash 1200m Wouldnt It Be Nice began awkwardly and made contact with Ninth Legion. Overraced in the middle stages and near the 800m was checked away from the heels of Kudero. Ninth Legion rider J Ford stated he had intended to take up a more forward position, however, after not showing the necessary speed in the early stages, he raced further back

5 5 than intended. He added Ninth Legion did not handle today s heavy track conditions, particularly when it was racing first up and back in the field where the gelding was subject to kickback. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Inz N Out when questioned, App. J Innes Jr stated that his mount was able to take up a position in the lead and on straightening he elected to shift off in order to find better going. He said under pressure in the straight the gelding failed to respond to his riding and weakened badly over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg and displaying an elevated temperature and poor post-race recovery. Trainer Mr G Ryan stated Inz N Out had pleased the stable leading into today s race and in particular galloped strongly last Tuesday, 20 June He added in his opinion the gelding had not appreciated racing on heavy tracks. Stewards advised Mr Ryan that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Inz N Out barrier trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards. Kudero rider C Reith explained that for some distance after the 300m, whilst positioned between Tessara and Wouldnt It Be Nice, Kudero despite his efforts was reluctant to proceed between those runners and it was not until approaching the 100m that he was able to shift to the outside of Wouldnt It Be Nice, but when he placed his mount under pressure it responded well and closed off in his opinion satisfactorily. RACE 8: Professionals Tamworth Handicap 1400m Gold Ambition stood flat-footed as the start was effected, shifted in abruptly and lost ground (3L). Near the 800m, when being restrained from the heels of Level Eight, shifted in, made contact with the running rail and blundered. Staviva began awkwardly and lost ground (3L). Rider R Hutchings stated that his mount travelled reasonably well in the run, albeit towards the rear of the field. He added when the gelding struck a softer section of the track near the 600m it became awkward in its action for a few strides and from this point failed to respond to his efforts in the straight and he desisted from testing it. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Metallic Crown slow to begin and shortly after the start was bumped by Wild N Famous. Rider G Schofield stated his mount was a little slow to begin and as a consequence settled further back than he had intended. He added, when placed under pressure in the straight the gelding commenced to make ground when he shifted to the outside of Recalculate, but then near the 150m had to be steadied when disappointed for clear running between Recalculate and Gold Ambition, which shifted in. G Schofield further stated that from this point Metallic Crown then commenced to give ground and when the gelding was not in a competitive position he desisted from riding it out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Level Eight began awkwardly, made contact with the nearside portion of its barrier and lost ground (2L). Recalculate began awkwardly. Rider A Hyeronimus stated the only excuse he could offer for the performance was the gelding raced somewhat one-paced today and was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

6 6 Wild N Famous rider App. N Heywood stated that his mount travelled reasonably well in the run, but could not quicken when asked for an effort in the straight. He added the only excuse he could offer was that the gelding was obliged to race on the inside going, which was commencing to chop up. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden advised Stewards that Wild N Famous had pleased the stable leading into today s race and could only concur with the views expressed by App. Heywood. Stewards ruled the performance of the gelding was unacceptable and it would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next start. Clear The Beach rider C Reith stated that his mount relaxed behind the leader Conarchie and then, after initially responding to his efforts in the early part of the straight, it commenced to give ground over the final 200m. He added that when his mount was well beaten he desisted from riding it out over the concluding stages. The only excuse he could offer was Clear The Beach did not run out a strong 1400m. A post-race veterinary examination gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery and respiratory distress. Co-trainer Mr G McFarlane advised the gelding had pleased leading into today s race, albeit it had missed a gallop on Tuesday, 20 June 2017 due to track closure following wet weather. He added irrespective he felt Clear The Beach was forward enough in its preparation to run out 1400m. Stewards deemed the performance of the gelding unsatisfactory and ruled that it must barrier trial to their satisfaction prior to its next race start. RACE 9: Jackson Pastoral Company Guyra Handicap 1000m Esgrimidor prior to the declaration of correct weight, the Stewards viewed the official patrol films to ascertain whether the gelding had been denied a fair start. After viewing the films, it was established that as the start was effect Esgrimidor simultaneously reared, resulting in rider B Spriggs dismounting from the gelding in the barrier and Esgrimidor then completing the course riderless. Trainer Mr T Howlett was advised that the horse must barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. Rose Of Man reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground (4L). Having regard to the circumstances and the advice of trainer. Mr Robinson could offer no excuse for today s performance and indicated that the mare had pleased the stable leading into today s race. In light of the advice that Mr Robinson would now spell Rose Of Man, no action was taken. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Ice Bucket slow to begin. Eminent Duke- began awkwardly. Loverboy Charlie began awkwardly. When questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, G Schofield stated that making the home turn he contemplated taking a run to the inside, but when he was waiting to ascertain whether his mount was going to be able to improve to the inside of Isorich, at this point Agent D or, which was positioned to his inside, shifted off and obtained the run he was endeavouring to improve into and as a result he shifted his mount to the outside to secure clear running. He added however, he was held up when having to shift to the outside of Isorich and the weakening Minnesota. He said he then secured clear running near the 200m and, after then having to shift to the inside of Lion Couchant inside the 50m to continue into clear running, Loverboy Charlie finished the race off well.

7 7 Argent D or on jumping was hampered when crowded by Salerno, which shifted in. Sangiovese slow to begin and then had to steady off the heels of Cosmic Cameo, which shifted out. In the early stages was inconvenienced when its rider App. N Heywood had to take precautionary action to avoid the riderless Esgrimidor. Close to the finish rider App. N Heywood was prevented from riding his mount out to the finish when placed close to the eels of the riderless Esgrimidor. Pro Consul raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages when its rider App. R King positioned her mount to avoid the riderless Esgrimidor. Isorich App. A Adkins stated in his view Isorich was not suited by today s heavy track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Minnesota App. B Ryan stated that his mount raced keen in the run in the fast early tempo and as a consequence was left without a finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Cosmic Cameo a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
