Mr Beadman advised Palomino would now be spelled. ROYAL RANDWICK Saturday 27 May 2017 Race 7: Fujitsu Air Conditioning McKell Cup (Listed) 2400m Slow Pace trainer Mr K Lees advised the gelding had been spelled. RACE 1: TAB Handicap 1200m Falconic trainer Mr G Portelli was fined $100 under AR53C for failing to notify the horse had been gelded. From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted back in across runners shortly after the start. Pendeloque made contact at the start with Intrinsic on jumping. Cape Wickham from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted back in across runners shortly after the start. Last Starfighter when questioned, rider R Hutchings stated his instructions were to lead on the gelding today, however his mount was fractious in the barriers before the start was effected and on jumping commenced awkwardly and as a consequence lost ground. He said, rather than ride the gelding forward, he elected to shift in behind runners to take up a position on the rail where Last Starfighter travelled well at the rear of the field. R Hutchings added that from the 600m he commenced to ride his mount forward and, although he contemplated shifting to the outside, African Rainbow, which was positioned in advance of him, when that runner shifted out he elected to shift back to the inside to improve. He added on straightening when struck with the whip his mount responded well to his riding and, after improving to the outside of the winner Silence near the 200m, commenced to run on strongly. R Hutchings further stated that over the concluding stages Last Starfighter s run peaked at about the 50m mark. Co-trainer Mr A Bott confirmed the instructions issued and said that, whilst in the

2 2 circumstances the gelding was positioned contrary to the stable s expectations, he was nonetheless most satisfied with the manner in which it finished the race off. Junglized overraced in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Kanga s Eye when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider A Hyeronimus stated that his mount commenced well and travelled in a handy position throughout the early stages. He said when positioned to the inside of Silence in the middle stages of the event he was of the view that Kanga s Eye was reluctant to race inside that runner and for this reason near the 800m he elected to shift off the rail to attempt to improve to the outside of Silence. A Hyeronimus added from this point Kanga s Eye was under pressure and failed to respond to his riding at any stage of the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr A Cummings expressed disappointment in the performance of the filly. Stewards deemed the performance of Kanga s Eye unsatisfactory and ruled it must barrier trial to their satisfaction prior to racing again. Intrinsic when questioned regarding his riding, B Avdulla stated, after following Pendeloque in the run, he was positioned to the inside of the heels of Junglized and for this reason making the home turn and in the early part of the straight he was unable to shift out to improve. He said as a consequence he remained racing behind Pendeloque in the early part of the straight, anticipating that Junglized would commence to give ground. He said when Junglized held its position he was held up before securing clear running inside the 200m. B Avdulla further stated that near the 100m, when pulling his whip through, he dropped his near-side rein and, whilst he advised the Stewards this did not impact on him riding his mount out to the finish, over the final two strides he was obliged to gather his near-side rein to avoid shifting in and crowding Pendeloque. RACE 2: Pro Rata ATC Membership On Sale Sprint 1200m Test The World Stewards considered an objection lodged by managing owner of second placegetter Arbeitsam, Mr D Watt, against first placed Test The World alleging interference over the concluding stages. After considering the evidence, including the Stewards patrol films, the Stewards found that near the 25m Test The World and Arbeitsam made contact, principally due to Arbeitsam shifting out. The contact resulted in Arbeitsam and to a more significant degree Test The World becoming unbalanced in this incident. The Stewards were satisfied the contact was primarily due to Arbeitsam shifting out and the objection was dismissed. Mr Watt was advised that his objection bordered on being frivolous, however, as Stewards found Test The World shifted in slightly near the 25m, they did not issue a charge under AR165(3). Faraway Town slow to begin and then was crowded between Mediterranean and Arbeitsam. Passing the 1000m had to be steadied when crowded between Insensata and New Universe, which shifted out when being restrained from the heels of Mediterranean. In this incident New Universe made contact with Faraway Town. Stewards opened an inquiry into App. B Ryan s riding out of 4 th placegetter Faraway Town. App. Ryan stated, after his mount commenced to make ground in the straight and over the concluding stages, when Arbeitsam shifted in towards his mount, Faraway Town was inclined to shift in away from that runner and as a consequence when it shifted with him he was obliged to stop riding and straighten. He said, whilst he was aware his mount was closing the race off well, he felt in order to avoid causing interference that was his first obligation to ensure that he rode his

3 3 mount in a safe manner. In accepting App. Ryan s explanation, Stewards were of the view that, whilst his actions may have prejudiced his chances being placed third, the corrective measures he undertook were appropriate in the circumstances. Insensata steadied and taken back in across runners after the start from its wide barrier. Palladian overraced in the early and middle stages. Near the 1000m Palladian, which was inclined to race keenly, had to be steadied when crowded between Mediterranean and Jeanneau which, after shifting in towards the rail, shifted back out when being corrected by its rider App. A Adkins when not clear to cross Dissolute. Jeanneau for a short distance inside the 100m raced in restricted room to the inside of Palladian when that runner shifted in and away from Good Time Charlie. New Universe when questioned regarding his riding, B Avdulla stated his instructions had been to allow his mount to race where comfortable and, as New Universe was stepping back up in distance to 1200m, he felt it may be able to settle closer than it had at its previous start. He said from barrier 4, after his mount commenced fairly, he elected not to shift in behind Palladian so as to leave his options open, depending upon how the race developed. He added when Arbeitsam, which he felt would provide good speed in the race, did not go forward and lead at the tempo he thought it would, with the race being run at a slow tempo he elected to remain racing to the outside of Palladian rather than coming back and getting too far back in a slowly run race. B Avdulla further stated this view was further reinforced when he felt Good Time Charlie, which was positioned to his outside, would hold a forward position wide and he would be able to obtain cover three wide on the back of that runner. He said when the tempo slackened near the 1000m his mount commenced to overrace badly and this also resulted in Good Time Charlie going forward, taking up a position outside the lead and leaving his mount exposed three wide without cover for a short distance. He further stated that when Mediterranean shifted to the outside of Test The World near the 500m he was again provided with cover to improve into the race, but once he shifted to the outside of that runner near the 300m New Universe could not make up ground on the leading division. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth confirmed the instructions, which were relayed to the Stewards at the commencement of today s meeting. He added New Universe had pleased the stable leading into today s race on the back of two strong wins this campaign. He said the stable had provided advice to the owner that New Universe was again a good winning chance and in addition had pleased the stable in its work leading into today s race. Mr Duckworth said, given the fact that New Universe, was obliged to race three wide partly without cover and having regard to the fact the gelding finished its last 600m in 33.03, the stable was not disappointed with today s performance. He advised the intention of the stable, irrespective of today s performance, was to spell New Universe, with a view to bringing the gelding back for a spring preparation. Mr Duckworth undertook to report back to the Stewards on the progress of New Universe in the days subsequent. Mediterranean rider G Schofield advised that his mount travelled well and improved into the race well soon after straightening, however then was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 3: Schweppes Handicap 1500m

4 4 Cottage knuckled on jumping. Near the 1200m was steadied to avoid the heels of Reiby Rampart (A Hyeronimus), which shifted in when not clear. Cottage was then shifted to the outside of Reiby Rampart to avoid that runner s heels and in doing so made contact with Dagny, resulting in Dagney becoming unbalanced and taken wider for a short distance. Cottage was then inclined to race keenly in the middle stages. A Hyeronimus was reprimanded and advised he must be sufficiently clear when crossing runners. Reiby Rampart slow to begin. Labdien from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted back in across runners shortly after the start. Countess Marinov a post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which weakened in the straight after leading, revealed it to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr D Payne advised that Countess Marinov had pleased leading into today s event and had not exhibited any signs of lameness. Mr Payne advised the mare would now be retired. RACE 4: TAB Highway Handicap 1400m Superoo struck its near-side hind leg leaving the enclosure, was examined by the Club s Veterinary Officer on arrival at the barriers and passed fit to start. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Zamex - slow to begin (2L). Friskee One after being slow to begin was checked when crowded for room between Jostle and Time In Motion, which shifted out. In the incident Jostle was hampered and taken out onto the hindquarter of Cliff. Barbass rounding the first turn commenced to overrace and was checked away from the heels of Marco Man. Cliff, which was following, was steadied. App. R Prest (Marco Man) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that passing the 400m she permitted her mount to shift out when not clear of Barbass, which was steadied and lost its running. App. Prest s permit to ride in races was suspended for period to commence at the expiration of a suspension incurred at Wagga Wagga yesterday on 2 June 2017, namely on Friday, 16 June 2017 and to expire on Friday, 23 June 2017, on which day she may ride. On return to scale it was noted rider B El-Issa was 0.4 of a kilogram under his declared weight. This matter was brought to the attention of B El-Issa and he was advised that wherever possible he ensures he returns to scale at his allotted weight. Jostle raced keenly in the middle stages. Cliff near the 300m was inconvenienced when Autumn shifted out away from Superoo. Over the final 75m was inclined to lay in and proved difficult to ride out to the finish of the race. Autumn when questioned, J Ford stated, given the anticiapted quick tempo in the race, he was given the option of taking cover on the mare. He said when Mister Marmalade set a strong tempo in front he was able to follow Superoo in the run, where his mount travelled well. He added on straightening he improved to the outside of that runner and, after initially responding in the early part of the straight, gave ground over the final 200m. J Ford further

5 5 added that the only excuse he could offer today was that Autumn would be better suited where it is able to dictate terms in front. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Marco Man App. R Prest explained that she had been issued with instructions to make her run wider on the track if possible. She added for this reason she elected to move away from the rail rounding the home turn to commence her run. Trainer Mr T Donnelly confirmed the nature of the instructions. RACE 5: McGrath Estate Agents Handicap 1500m Wayanka began awkwardly and got its head up. Vega began awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with Walk The Streets, which in turn shifted out and hampered Cudero. Uptown Lad slow to begin. Volpe raced keenly in the middle stages. Show Em raced wide without cover throughout. Crown Him rider T Angland stated that from the 800m his mount commenced to lose ground and soon after straightening, when he was of the view the gelding had gone amiss behind he eased it out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had fractured its right hind femur and on humane grounds was euthanased. Crown Him will be sent for necropsy. Co-trainer Mr A Cummings stated Crown Him had pleased the stable leading into today s race had had no issue which would give rise to this injury. Mr Cummings was asked to provide to the Stewards his stable treatment records and veterinary records for the gelding. The section of the track was inspected by Stipendiary Steward Mr T Moxon, who report no issues in relation to the track conditions. Walk The Streets from its wide draw was shifted back in behind runners shortly after the start. Shifted out around the heels of Volpe to improve near the 200m. Picardy Rose near the 150m, when being ridden out, shifted out across the heels of Uptown Lad and had to be briefly steadied. Cordero rider C Reith stated his mount settled back in the field as on expected and travelled well. He said from the 700m he wanted to commence to improve, but when positioned behind Vega he elected to shift to the outside of that runner, whereby he then followed Fleeting Stryke into the race. He added from the 500m he could not improve into the race as he would have liked due to those runners being in advance of his mount and, after shifting back to the inside of Vega on straightening, his mount was inclined to race greenly and took some time to respond to his riding. C Reith further stated that over the final 200m, when properly balanced, Cudero found the line reasonably well in his opinion. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. 6 6 Reincarnate when questioned, App. B Ryan advised his instructions were to endeavour to be more forward today, however the gelding was standing awkwardly in the barriers and as a consequence when the start was effected made contact with the outside barrier and lost ground. He said Reincarnate settled at the rear of the field and travelled reasonably well, but was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-foreleg. Stable representative Mr P Reid advised Reincarnate had pleased the stable since its first up run at Rosehill on 20 May 2017 and he had expected it to improve today with the benefit of fitness. Mr Reid was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Reincarnate racing again. Ziggy Willie overraced in the middle stages. Zin Zan Eddie raced wide without cover throughout. Invincible Knight near the 300m was disappointed for a run to the inside of Pick Me Up and as a consequence was shifted to the outside of that runner to obtain clear running. Invincible Knight then between the 200m and 100m could not be tested when placed close to the heels of Girl Sunday. RACE 7: Eremein Handicap 1800m Mighty Lucky jumped awkwardly. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. So Willie making the home turn So Willie and Montauk commenced to improve into a run between Believe and Foreign Prince. As Believe and Foreign Prince then commenced to give ground, Montauk established a position to the outside of Believe, however when Believe shifted out slightly and Foreign Prince, which was giving ground quickly, shifted in, So Willie became awkward on the heels of Foreign Prince and as a consequence had to be ridden hard by rider B Avdulla in order to maintain its position to the inside of that runner. As a result Montauk and So Willie bumped heavily on a number of occasions while contesting this position until near the 250m, where both Montauk and So Willie were able to secure clear running. God s In Him when questioned regarding his riding, C Reith stated that, after settling at the rear of the field as expected, approaching the 600m he had two options available to him to either shift to the outside of the second favourite So Willie and follow Alegria into the race or take a run to the inside of So Willie. He said, as some criticism had been levelled at his ride on Cudero in the previous race by the stable for coming wide, he made the decision to follow So Willie through to save ground and secure inside runs. C Reith added that when So Willie shifted off to improve he was able to obtain a run to the inside of Montauk, but then when Zero To Ten and Believe weakened in advance of him he was badly held up between the 350m and the 200m. He said, once into clear running, God s In Him finished the race off well. Believe a post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor postrace recovery and thumps. Co-trainer Mr A Cummings was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to Believe racing again. RACE 8: Octagonal Handicap 1400m

7 7 Tsaritsa threw its head up at the start and was slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and got its head up. Old North slow to begin. Royal Tudor overraced in the early and middle stages and for some distance near the 1000m was steadied when awkwardly close to the heels of Danish Twist. Famous Seamus raced wide without cover throughout. Danish Twist near the 250m was inconvenienced when steadied to avoid the heels of Royal Tudor (App. B McDougall) which, when inclined to lay in, shifted in. App. McDougall was advised to exercise more care. Invinzabeel held up for clear running in the early part of the straight. Sir Bacchus held up for clear running until approaching the 200m. Slightly Sweet over the concluding stages was steadied away from the heels of Royal Tudor (App. B McDougall), which shifted in. App. McDougall was reprimanded and advised he must stop riding and straighten his mounts when they commence to give ground. When questioned regarding his riding and in particular why his mount travelled wide without cover throughout the event, App. A Adkins stated he was instructed by trainer Mr J Coyle to ensure his mount began well today and to try and take up a position forward of midfield. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages, but was caught wide and, with no prospect of being able to get in, he was obliged to remain racing to the outside of Royal Tudor in the early stages. He added from the 1000m he allowed his mount to stride forward, but was still unable to get in and as a consequence was obliged to race wide without cover for the majority of the event. Stewards advised App. Adkins that in their opinion in the early stages, when there was no prospect of being able to obtain a position close to the rail by going forward, he should have taken hold of his mount and taken a position behind Royal Tudor whereby his mount would have been afforded cover behind that runner. Coolring passing the winning post shied away from the running rail, resulting in App. D Panya becoming unbalanced. Snoopy rider C Reith stated that he initially contemplated leading on the gelding, but when Coolring showed intent he allowed that runner to cross to the lead and take a position outside that runner. He said when Famous Seamus improved to his outside, Snoopy was inclined to race keenly, but was still in the circumstances disappointing in its failure to finish the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated in his view Snoopy was unsuited by being ridden outside the leader Coolring in that it overraced somewhat in this position. Mr Hawkes was advised Snoopy would be required to barrier trial prior to the gelding s next race start. RACE 9: #Theraces Handicap 1500m Dreamforce Trainer Mr J Thompson was fined $200 under AR 140(b) for the late notification to remove Blinkers and add Winkers. An announcement was made on Thursday morning 1 June 2017.

8 8 Louie Sea Kay slow to begin. Loophole slow to begin. Zayam began awkwardly. Sultan Of Swing began awkwardly. Near the 150m was steadied and shifted to the outside of Careless to continue into clear running. Careless slow to begin and then shortly after the start was crowded between Dreamforce and Got Unders. More Than Fabulous approaching the first turn became unbalanced and shifted out, resulting in Loophole being checked. For some distance near the 300m was held up before shifting to the inside of Got Unders near the 200m to obtain clear running. Speed Hero raced wide without cover throughout. Timeless Prince a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which failed to run on, revealed it to be lame in front. Trainer Mr T Newing was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. GENERAL: Summary of whip use Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Race 2 T Angland (Dissolute) 8 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 3: A Hyeronimus (Reiby Rampart) 7 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 4 App. B McDougall (Call The Captain) B El-Issa (Barbass) 6 strikes prior to the 100m. 7 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 5 J Ford (Uptown Lad) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.
