1 JIM S JOURNAL AUGUST TH, RACE # HOMEFORTHEWEEKEND SANDRETTI BRITISH TRADITION 7 BITETHEBULLETBRO HOMEFORTHEWEEKEND a debut runner for Nick Gonzalez is bred for speed by, Not Bourbon; he comes from the rail post in this opener for $,000 with lasix being used; he has worked over a half mile on three consecutive occasions; the stable does well with debuting maiden claimers. SANDRETTI was in a tough race at five furlongs last time and did his best running when he moved to the outside to advance in second against a first time starter from the Biamonte stable; he looks to continue his progress in this third start. GROUNDHOG DAY a homebred for Sam-Son Farm is a half brother to, Aldous Snow, a runner with significant stamina; he travels just five and a half furlongs here for just $,000 in this opener with lasix and blinkers; he has worked on turf, Tapeta and dirt getting ready. BRITISH TRADITION a debut runner for Laurie Silvera is bred for speed by, Old Forester, and is from the same dam who produced the two year old stakes winner, Bear s Peak; he goes here with lasix, blinkers and Santos. MAXWELLS LEGACY debuted July th but was handy only early in that turf sprint where he finished far behind; blinkers are added; he drops down and goes to Tapeta. RAPID BEAT is sent out by trainer Mike Mattine who has already had success with a young runner by, Souper Speedy; he indicates four consecutive works at a half mile getting ready and has attracted Hernandez. BITETHEBULLETBRO was in against a runaway winner when he debuted and second time out got in against a key winner who came back to be second in the Victoria; he drops out of those tough races to try more his own kind here for $,000 with the blinkers on; first time blinkers is a good angle for this stable. RACE # SPECIAL FORCES 7 TIMESKIP 9 HARD LUCK CHARLIE MIZUCHI LOVE OF MINE has trained exclusively on the turf but has been in against difficult runners in both career races including in his only try this year; he comes right back at a mile with a chance to improve. MIZUCHI has picked short distance races for his two events to date and most recently he was showing some life in the stretch but he hung at the most crucial point and now extends in distance. TRACK D GOLD is getting his first start since a spring opener where he was fifth of six without threatening; he had exposure to turf last year. PRECIOUS BADGE offered middle speed in a turf sprint July th but could not improve his position late; he had more of a speed work July 7 th in.0. getting ready. ZEPHAN was gaining last time when the late pace was weakening for $,000 and he finished on the edges; he has been moved over to the stable of Martin Hinckson for Stronach Stables. NESTLETON HUSH a debut runner is a homebred for Michael Loughry by, Silent Name, and will debut here at a mile on grass for Don MacRae who had a booming winner on Wednesday evening on turf with, Sailor s Thought; he worked on turf July 9 th in 9. getting ready. TIMESKIP looks like a contender; he was on turf last time and waited as long as possible before making his move which turned out to be once again premature; he was beaten late by two rushing rivals including the winner, Coleyville, who has come back to score again; Wilson who handled him last year takes over in this spot; he has had positive interim prepping in company for Renee Kierans. SPECIAL FORCES is an obvious one to consider; he competes for Mark Casse and is dropping down; he came here July th and didn t have much impact against better than he faces here but he was running well earlier on turf especially when the ground had some give to it in April at Keeneland. HARD LUCK CHARLIE is a long bodied individual who didn t have much chance at five furlongs because he couldn t generate speed given his confirmation; he was galloping out well, however, after his third place finish looking for more room and he gets it here with a switch to turf both good stable angles. RACE # CRAWL FROM THE BAR MUSKOKA WONDER SOUPER HOT THE NEWFIE EXPRESS THE NEWFIE EXPRESS is getting his fourth start and his opening two events in maiden events were quite good; most recently, he went to the open Victoria Stakes where he was used up in a pace struggle and he faltered to be behind in double digits; he had a good work July nd getting ready to come back here. SOUPER HOT was faultless in his debut July 7 th at -; he rushed away from his opponents with Husbands aboard for Mike Mattine and owners Carlos D Amato and Stacey Van Camp; he prepped in company with an older rival July th getting ready in.; with Husbands moving to, Muskoka Wonder, Hernandez moves in here. CRAWL FROM THE BAR debuted in the open Victoria Stakes and was last in the early going then did some running to mid stretch but was finally third against a front running winner and a key runner up; he has had an interim prep and now looks to go forward in this race for Ontario bred runners. MUSKOKA WONDER is by Into Mischief, and had a successful debut July nd despite being hemmed in by the favourite who faltered to last; once he escaped he moved up cleverly to be clear at the end; he has some improving to do and looks to go forward here in this second start for Mark Casse. MOON SWINGS had his opener ruined; he broke behind rivals and then checked at the quarter pole when the fifth place finisher came in on him; he is hoping to move forward here with smart interim prepping and Campbell was aboard for his most recent trial.

2 JIM S JOURNAL AUGUST TH, RACE # GUATEMALA CITY BIG BAZINGA MIND MAGIC MONEY TALKS CAPE ROCO couldn t keep up here but went to Fort Erie to cash in July th and was a winner at - on the turf; he now moves to the stable of Anthony Adamo. INCORPORATER has dedicated himself to his home turf at Fort Erie this year and has been on the edges at best; he was in against much too tough a group on Prince of Wales day and finished only six lengths behind, Three Ring Circus; he now stretches to a mile. GUATEMALA CITY typically uses speed but with so much other early force in the race July th when she returned, she used a diligent off the pace style to produce a game victory against a relentless runner up; she is a one time winner on turf and that came at this exact distance last September. PARTY AT EIGHT was second best in a race that came off turf at Fort Erie two starts ago for $,000 and the winner has since scored here. MONEY TALKS had a big race June th on turf for $,000 when third and the winner has repeated; he didn t do well in the slop at Fort Erie last time in a race that came off turf; he was subsequently forced to scratch here July th. BIG BAZINGA is the obvious one with the big drop in this third start of the year after giving up the advantage in the stretch last time against better; Hernandez is sticking with him. SPANISH RIVER was in the same most recent race as, Big Bazinga, last time at vastly longer odds, yet, finished only three lengths behind that sagging rival. CLEARER VIEW was in an extra fast race at a mile last time and at long odds was beaten only eight lengths; he now gets to run for only $,000 in hopes of changing form. KITTEN S SOLUTION was able to win here for $,000 June rd when claimed with an eye to running on grass and that opportunity came at Fort Erie last time when he was only six lengths back and, Smooth Passage, was second and that one has already come back to win there. MIND MAGIC is worth considering with the drop in for $,000; both of his recent turf races have come at protected levels and he has run well on the edges in his last pair and Husbands stays with him; he seeks a breakthrough win. SMOOTH PASSAGE is a speedster from Fort Erie who comes off his second win of this season on turf there; he comes right back at a mile here around one turn in lane four. RACE # 7 COLLEEN S SAILOR BOLD HOPE THREE RING CIRCUS GROM THREE RING CIRCUS was a winner during the storm at Fort Erie on Prince of Wales day while competing at five furlongs on turf with Hernandez aboard as the favourite; he was much the best there; he looks to bring that form back home with him on Tapeta at five furlongs with Boulanger now aboard and he knows him well. NASHVILLE KNIGHT didn t get out of the gate properly last time and ran from off the pace on turf and didn t threaten; he is coming down in value to run for just $,000 at five furlongs on Tapeta. PHIL IN THE BLANK is part of the early pace group here along with, Nashville Knight, Three Ring Circus, and, Be The Change; he did win a short distance race at Fort Erie earlier this year. BOLD HOPE likes the short distance and has the useful off the pace style for this event and it is just a case of his readiness for Darwin Banach; he wins the services of Hernandez in this belated return; he won his return last year. BE THE CHANGE a noted speed runner was going first time off the claim at five furlongs on turf at Fort Erie last time and raced from off the pace to be fifth against, Three Ring Circus, who is here. GROM was on turf here two starts ago and wasn t far behind in a quick race; he went to Fort Erie to run on dirt last time and was no factor; he did have a good race here on Tapeta last December. COLLEEN S SAILOR took his best shot with a whopping drop July th second time off the shelf and it seemed as if he was on his way with a big middle race move to get the lead but a dropped down runner beat him at the last instant and extended his losing streak; he now goes back up in value and shortens in distance with Husbands aboard once again. RACE # SWEET LITTLE MAN KITTEN S CAT 7 SINGANDCRYINDUBAI SIDING SPRING COMMUTE was freshened a month after a wide loss on turf and came back to Tapeta June th and rated off the pace while down along the tough footing inside and finished only two lengths behind the difficult, Sweet Grass Creek; he goes back to turf here from the rail. SIDING SPRING is a Casse import who has been prepared in Florida with three recent works coming at Saratoga; this will be his first start in just over a year and when he was last competing here he was a close second against the multiple stakes winner, Glenville Gardens. SAN NICOLA THUNDER attracted a claim last time when second best against another who rallied better; he was under some pressure in the stretch to advance but was simply second best in a quickly run race on Tapeta; he is also at home on turf where he has won eight times; he now goes for Bermuda Farm. BET ON MIKE was involved in a bumping incident May th and after that poor race he has been on the shelf for Roger Attfield; he was building up with a work July th in 7. going easily and makes his way back seeking his first win on turf. WEDGEWOOD received a very good ride from Callaghan last time who showed more patience and sprung him from off the pace deep in the lane to take down the speed runner, Chill; he also used an off the pace technique in a recent work getting ready for this.

3 JIM S JOURNAL AUGUST TH, HOLLOW POINT moved well but too late June 9 th when getting his second race locally and he attracted a claim by Vito Armata for $0,000; he has taken some time to get back and has had a work on turf in the interim; he will now go six and a half furlongs on the grass for the second time in a row and Santos takes over. SINGANDCRYINDUBAI held everyone hostage with a front end approach on turf last time with big middle fractions and he still had enough late for Norm McKnight who was dropping him out of the Steady Growth Stake and cutting him back to an optional event sprinting on turf. KITTEN S CAT was the - favourite last time and had a good approach making the lead in mid stretch but, Sweet Little Man, pounced on him late for the victory and he was runner up for the third time in a row. SPRINGHOUSE gets his first start of the year for Mike Keogh; he wasn t far away in a series of races back in to conclude that campaign but he missed all of last year; he has been getting ready on turf and the training track. SWEET LITTLE MAN has now won four in a row but had to give one of those back; he scored last time at seven furlongs on the turf at the expense of, Kitten s Cat, taking down that one late under perfect handling from Contreras; he has had a work for this on the training track in. getting ready for Jim Ensom. LOKINFORPURSEMONEE will compete only if this event is run on Tapeta; he is winless for the year but has tried some difficult company including, Pink Lloyd, on two occasions. RACE #7 NOT SO QUIET - BEST BET SMOOTH TALK AMEN ALLEY SILVER SHERIFF NOT SO QUIET had a successful debut July th and was well prepared by Bill Tharrenos to win for Heste Sport Inc. and Natural Eight Stable; Hernandez who had been aboard in the morning steered him clear of the others through the lane in that five furlong dash; the challenge is different now at six and a half furlongs in this second start. SMOOTH TALK was developing nicely last October with a win; he was then put into a stakes race where he was well positioned but he didn t have enough at that time to improve his positioning; he makes his way back now as a three year old for Catherine Day-Phillips who has already enjoyed a good week. CAT S WHISPER had a switch to Ryan last time and she got him motivated for a big outside run at - to steal third in the Jackpot High Five. LEGAL GUMP attracted a claim just recently for $,000 when mildly on the edges; he doubles in value here. AMEN ALLEY responded inside with speed last time and while he turned back his main pace challenger he couldn t handle a late runner who beat him at the last moment; he comes back at six and a half furlongs; he has had interim prepping. DISTINCT PASSION has been out of the money in both races this season and had a tough task last time chasing on the pace with, The Young Lord, and he understandably weakened out of the money; Campbell now rides. DIFFERENTIAL acted up at the gate July th and that eliminated him from contention in a seven furlong turf race; he runs for $0,000 now. SILVER SHERIFF was well prepared by Mike Keogh to win July th and he was asked to run in only the last furlong by Christopher Husbands who had him clear at the end; he came back with a fast work on the training track in 9. looking to go forward on Tapeta now. ADIOS MUCHACHO was down inside from the third flight last time but was overwhelmed on turf by a front runner who posted fast interior fractions; he had run strongly on Tapeta the time before. ROCK YOU was far back on turf last time but was a winner on Tapeta two starts ago when he was able to command the middle pace for his initial win for John Mattine. RACE # SHE S GOT FIRE CLICKITY CLACK LINE OF VISION GOSUDARINA LINE OF VISION dominated with consecutive stakes wins which featured dominating stretch gains last October in the Victoria Queen and in November in the South Ocean at a route; she got her season underway June 9 th in the Lady Angela when she was no match for the runner, She s Got Fire, who is here; since that time she has had a couple of works trying to move her form forward for the Joey Gee stable. H. M. S. PINAFORE is built for route racing; she did win around two turns June rd with a rally from seventh to be clear and the runner up has since scored; most recently, she tried to move from far on the outside but had a letdown performance in her second try on lasix. GOSUDARINA started the year with consecutive routes including a win June th ; for an opportunity to get into the Lady Angela she cut back in distance but couldn t handle the stretch speed of the others and finished a close fourth while, She s Got Fire, was narrowly beaten in second; she gets back to a route here and has had an easy interim work in 9 for Robert Tiller. CLICKITY CLACK was a star last year winning the Princess Elizabeth Stakes with a rally; in her finale she was reserved behind runners and got down inside and stalled as the favourite in the South Ocean and finished third behind, Line Of Vision, and Gosudarina, who are both here; she has reignited her training schedule and had a good rally in a recent work for Tony Gattellaro; she goes for a good jockey/trainer combination. SHE S GOT FIRE is an obvious one to consider here given her good race in the Lady Angela last time; she stalked behind runners then burst in the stretch to challenge but the winner was too good and left her second; she did win around two turns June nd and stretches out here; she competes for Di Scola Boys Stable.

4 JIM S JOURNAL AUGUST TH, RACE #9 HAPPY S CAUSEWAY GIANT MINE 7 HAZY DAVY DANCING WITH ZORRO DANCING WITH ZORRO dropped to this level last time and had a good result with a speed approach finishing third but, Giant Mine, was better in second; he faces that same rival. HAPPY S CAUSEWAY is certainly one to consider now that he is getting his third race off the shelf; he got in against a front running winner last time that he couldn t handle even though he altered late off the rail into an open space where he advanced in third; he now gets back to route racing something he was doing often earlier in his career; he requires the perfect stretch move. PUTSY S PAL was long odds in a turf race here when in for $,000 last time and did pass some runners without threatening; he goes to a route on Tapeta. SUCCESSFUL BREW advanced in the middle stages last time but stalled in the late stages and was a distant fourth; the runner up has come back to win. PUZZLING KITTEN debuted June 9 th at short odds for $,000 and was eased on the backstretch and was vanned off; he makes his way back now at a lower level for Michael Maker and Hernandez once again has the mount. GIANT MINE is certainly one to consider; he was in for $,00 last time and his slow break was costly; he stalled on the second turn but got going again on the outside and narrowly missed and did keep, Dancing With Zorro, in behind him. HAZY DAVY took a drop two starts ago and rallied in third at a route in a race that gives him standing here; perhaps one can excuse his out of the money finish on turf last time; he now gets back to Tapeta and departs the lasix program. TRACK THAT ECHO was in the same most recent race as, Hazy Davy, and finished two lengths behind that also ran; he departs turf and goes to Tapeta and takes the blinkers off. RACE # TESSERON SINE METU ROYAL INTRIGUE KAIGUN 7 LOOKIN AT BRAVO MAJOR PRODUCTION does well in long distances races and took a turf win in the last leg of this series in 7; he competed against several of these last time and was not effective. BOLD ANIMAUX competed last time against several of these and was on the pace but faltered in the crunch and that ended his two race winning streak which had taken place on Tapeta; he takes the blinkers off for this extension to a mile and a half. KAIGUN came outside on the turn with a threatening move last time and finished third with, Tesseron, second; it was such a big adjustment for him going from six furlongs to a mile and three eights in that event for Bermuda Farm and Partner; he should be more settled now that he gets consecutive marathon tries. MICK THE CONQUEROR was in a first allowance race on turf at nine furlongs last time where the middle pace was quick; he lost by about seven lengths without ever threatening; he goes farther here and did run well at a mile and a quarter last summer but must travel a mile and a half here. ENGLISH ILLUSION won going thirteen furlongs on Tapeta last November and has run well at a mile and a half on turf in the past; however, his performance second time off the shelf June rd in the Singspiel Stakes was a significant letdown. SINE METU was moving forward but was in crowded quarters on the final turn July st against several of these and finally finished fourth; he gets his second marathon race in a row; he has had a nice interim work in.00.. LOOKIN AT BRAVO had a big win when dropped for $,000 last time coming from last along the inside and altering at the last moment to steal it; he now gets a try at an extended distance and has had experience at a mile and a half on turf in the past. ROYAL INTRIGUE has run this distance effectively before when in behind, Tesseron, and, Sine Metu, and he meets them here; he is joining the series now after a race at a mile on turf last time where he was a strong second in a high velocity performance. SECOND STREET travelled nine furlongs on turf last time in his second local race but the winner slowed the pace while running in front and that hampered his late gaining chances. U S MARSHAL was in tight on the last turn July st and finally finished sixth beaten eight lengths with, Tesseron, in second. GORGEOUS KITTEN competed at nine furlongs when going first time off the claim for Ryan Kerbel last time and the slow nature of the pace hurt his rallying chances but he finished fourth against the front runner. BOURBON SOUL comes in for Magee Wolfson from Santa Anita and joins the Norm McKnight stable; he has had time for just one local work in company; he has enjoyed past success at a mile and a half on turf; Hernandez has been enlisted. TESSERON won the series last year when Wilson was the rider; Husbands was aboard July st at eleven furlongs where he came around rivals and finished second to, Artistico, who opted out of the series to run in a race July nd where he finished second; he had an easy galloping work in.0. coming to this mile and a half event. TWENTYTWENTYCREST is developing stamina but has been competing at low levels; he was reclaimed by Saul McHugh for a minor sum recently when second.
