Networking Day on Thursday offers so many opportunities there is something for everyone. Convention events will take you from the heart of the racing world to the lush greenspace of White River State Park. The Convention will again culminate with the popular Expo and conclude with NIBA s very first concert by Indy native Josh Kaufmann. Questions? staff@niba.org #NIBAcon 1

2 Program Committee Chair Bill Hornsby The theme of this year s Convention is Driving for Success. We all want to be successful in our professional and personal lives and this year s event will provide opportunities to advance in both. The Program Committee has put together a Convention with a little something for everyone in the cool urban setting of Indianapolis. Thursday has been dubbed Networking Day with a number of options including: morning and afternoon seminars from University of Innovative Distributor speakers, tennis or other more casual networking opportunities with NIBA friends such as Segway tours, Kiss the Bricks tour of the Motor Speedway, Escape Room, Brew Bus (local micro brewery tours) or the Pickled Pedaler. Of course the NIBA Golf outing will again be one of the highlights of the day and will be held at the Brickyard Crossing which has four holes inside the racing track and the other fourteen adjacent to it. NIBA welcomes former Racing Champion Derek Daly as the keynote speaker who will help us understand the difference between going fast and being fast within our companies. He will stick around for an afternoon session where he will drill down on implementation of the points made during the morning session. There will also be an alternative afternoon session from the UID. The Next Gen After-Hours gathering that started last year is back by popular demand. This year, networking for the group will be expanded to include an exclusive afternoon speaker from the UID who will be discussing The Foundations of Leadership. We are also holding a Welcome Reception for spouses so they will have an opportunity to get to know each other and make plans to do some of the tours previously mentioned or other unique events available. Since Indy is within driving distance for many in our group, we encourage you to bring your spouses to join in the activities and/or additional people within your company to take advantage of the educational opportunities and the Convention Expo which is always one of the highlights. This year the Board has approved test marketing the concept of allowing Distributor / Fabricators, who meet established criteria for sales to distribution, to exhibit at the Expo, so we expect even more exhibitors than last year. Driving is an active word, and speaking of active, the Committee has planned an exciting opening ceremony at the Dallara Indy Car Factory where there will be race simulators, pit crew challenge, opportunities to take a ride in a street legal Indy or NASCAR vehicle as well as photo ops with a Indy Show Car decked out with NIBA and sponsors logos. The closing evening will conclude with a short walk from the JW, just across the street to an amphitheater in White River State Park, to enjoy the music of Josh Kaufman who is a local Indy artist and winner of Season 6 of The Voice. We are all excited about the Convention and look forward to seeing everyone in Indy in September. Here s to working hard and playing hard! Michael Marks Managing in Turbulent Times The distribution industry, in many sectors, is in a race to the bottom on price with new non-traditional competitors like broad line box movers and Amazon. The model that Peter Drucker put forward many years ago, under this same title, still holds true today. With an update for today s challenges, this session examines decision making, scenario development, risk assessment, and tools that separate the direction of the tide from the size of the waves. This is a set of practical tools that can be used to decide whether to hire an inside rep or an outside rep, or when to pick up a competing supplier.

Over the years, the museum has amassed one of the world s, most varied collections of racing, classic, and antique cars, including more than 30 cars that won the Indianapolis 500. The Tony Hulman Theatre presents a 20-minute film on the history of the track and race highlights. Year-round narrated bus tours of the race track are available, weather permitting, when the track is not in use for racing, testing, or special events. The Grounds Tour is a 1 1/2-hour narrated tour of the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway facility that provides guests the opportunity to tour the oval track, visit the media center, the Pagoda, victory platform, garage area and a Gasoline Alley suite, plus stand on the famous Yard of Bricks at the start/finish line. 10 Convention & Travel Information Indianapolis Indianapolis is prepared to welcome you with their famous Hoosier Hospitality. While many know this exciting city as the home to the greatest spectacle in racing - the Indy there is so much more that Indy has to offer. Navigating the city is a breeze. The 2016 Convention is located in the heart of downtown within walking distance of White River State Park, world-class restaurants, and some of Indy s top attractions. Airport Indianapolis International Airport (IND) is located approximately fifteen miles/thirty minutes from the hotel. There is no complimentary shuttle service between the hotel and airport. Excluding gratuity, estimated taxi fare to or from the airport (oneway) is 30. Average temperatures for Indianapolis in September are Low - 55 F/13 C; High - 77 F/25 C. Comfortable shoes are recommended for outdoor activities. Business/Sales Meetings It is the policy of NIBA The Belting Association s Board of Directors that no delegates conduct (or participate in) any business or sales meetings during the regularly scheduled events of the Convention. Registration/Refund Policy The deadline to receive the Advance Registration Discount is August 15th. Because of the time required for printing badges and arrival packets, NIBA cannot guarantee pre-printed badges or inclusion in the final registration list for those who register after August 15th. Full refunds less a 200 administrative fee per person will be allowed for any member or spouse/companion registration canceled in writing by August 31st. No refund will be given for event changes or cancellations received after August 31st New Members & First Timers All members are asked to extend a warm welcome to new members and first time attendees who are identified by a ribbon on their name badges. A special reception will be held for all new members and first time attendees and their spouse/companion on Thursday, September 15th from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Here, those attendees will learn more about NIBA during a brief, informal presentation by the NIBA President. Separate invitation will be sent at a later date.
