June 25 Sun 8:30 breakfast at New Beginnings in Grandville, 28th St just east of 196 Fine Print There has always been an issue about starting times. When the time states 8:30, about 3/4 of the participants show up at 8:00. Now, if we state the start time is 8:00, will the same participants show up at 7:30? THAT is the big question and is up to debate. Your input is important here Page!2

3 Chapter G Director s News Rodney DeJonge/Dar Koza MI-Chapter G RODAR'S CORNER We had our first rescue as chapter team directors of our mascot, Captain Teddy Midnight, from ChN on May 2nd. We were asked to have at least 6 members from ChG in their colors come to their Gathering and bring a treat for everyone. Misread the treat part. Thought that they were having a treat for us(oops). They were kind enough to let us bring Teddy home anyway. Told Sandy that we actually brought one more person with us so that should count for something, but that we owed them a treat and would bring it to their picnic in the park in July. With becoming the new directors we inherited all of the old scrapbooks, newsletters, etc. While sorting through it all I came across a lot of old pictures from back in the early 1990's I found pictures of my sister and her husband, who were part of the group when Ron and Jan Rowe were directors. She could never find the pictures she had, so l was able to show them the ones I found and they could reminisce about back when they used to have breakfast at Mulders on Leonard and O'Malleys on Alpine. I also found a lot of other old pictures of current members of our group that I will share at our next anniversary party which will be on April 28, It will be the 35th anniversary of ChG. We have a new larger location and would like to invite all past members to join us. So if you know of anyone, tell them to put this date on their calendar for next year. We had our first Road Safari ride on the 13th. There were 9 bikes and 2 trikes(3 on the way home) 18 people total. We had Steve and Bernadette Walker from Holland and Wayne Gorter from Kalamazoo join us. Howard led us on a nice long afternoon ride to Eaton Rapids for ice cream at Miller's, which didn't open until 3pm. Quite the history there. Should maybe go for the tour next time. It seems like a lot of the ladies don't seem to mind having our Gathering on Mother s Day, which happens every year. So we will continue to do it that way. The guys can buy their ladies breakfast and we will make sure to have a special gift for them every year. Father s Day lunch will be at Northern Trails Bar and Grill again this year in Newaygo at 12:30pm. 4 Rider Education BOB UNGREY MI- To Be Young Again, No Thanks Think back 70, 60 or how ever many years you'd like to reflect on! We sometimes did things that we'd never even try today. Age and experience has a way to change the way we think and act when riding our Goldwings. Jump on my bike, no jacket, shorts and a tee shirt. Co-rider, tank top, short shorts and flip flops? Nice way to keep cool, but not very safe if some thing runs in front of you, you hit gravel or dirt or another vehicle doesn't see you. When you're young, that would never happen to me, I'm fast on my feet, can meet and avoid any danger that might come my way! Really? Try and talk with a teenager or young adult today, being the wise, old, glasses to see and smelling of Ben Gay dude. Do they listen to you? They might nod their head, but think what's this old person talking about? Their safety is on our mind. Remember we were young once, maybe we think we are sometimes, but I bet you that there are some things you think you can still do, but trying and doing them is in a world of its own. The old saying "The Mind says Yes, but the Body says No). We've all ridden our rides for a number of years and think we know how to handle them in any given situation or emergency, right? Life is a constant learning experience, we always can be a better rider, co-rider or a better person, but we have to work at it all the time. I remember, yes it wasn't too long ago when I went from two wheels to a trike. Boy what a learning curve that was for both Jane and me. What really helped us was the TRC course we both took about 5 years ago. You don't have to be in the Levels program to take either the ARC (Advanced Rider Course), or the TRC (Trike Rider Course). Did it help, all I can say is, boy it sure made me feel safer for both myself and my co-rider, but for others around me and these things we call cars, trucks and those little ole ladies out for their Sunday drive with their grandchildren. Oh those memories of time gone by, I'm sure we somethings wish to be young again, but think about where you are today, would you really want to be able to go back those so many years ago? Until next time, THINK, ride safe and don't look back on the past, there are great times and rides still awaiting us. Bob Ungrey Chapter G Rider Educator P.S. Please read the from gl1800riders regarding the little scooter, that was the basis for my Junes Rider Education Article Len informed me that Chapter R2 is having a Road Captain Course on June 10th, read my article and maybe we can show that yes, Chapter G does want to ride safely and learn more about the Road Captain's job. Since my article will be in May s News Letter, that will give you enough time to let me know if you are interested in attending this event. It s a pretty good way to visit MI and visit different chapters along the way. The coordination may be a little hard, but it will be fun trying. Let s see how many of these sites we can visit this year. Maximum 12 bikes per class. All classes ARC, TRC, ARC-R, TRC-R, and SRC allow 1-up or 2-up training. All participants must wear full riding gear: DOT helmet, eye protection, full finger gloves, long sleeves, long pants and over-the-ankle boots or shoes. ARC, TRC, and SRC Courses include Classroom and Range instruction. Grayling and Evart courses will be range only. These classes are for re-certification only. All Riders must bring to class: valid operator license with motorcycle endorsement; current vehicle registration; and current proof of insurance. Confirmation s will be sent out about two (2) weeks before the requested course, and will indicate your Class Times and Locations.
