2 2 11 Marshall County Clover Chatter I have already felt so welcomed by everyone, and am proud to call Marshall County my new home. I am excited to be your 4-H Extension Educator, and can t wait to get started! As you all know, this is a busy time of year with the Fair right around the corner. Everyone in the Extension Office has been hard at work to make sure the Fair runs as smoothly as possible. I want to thank all of the many wonderful volunteers for the hard work you do the 4-H Fair simply could not function without you. I look forward to meeting all of you and working with you for many years to come. A little bit to help you get to know me I earned my Bachelor s degree in Mathematics from the University of Indianapolis and my Master s in Education from Oakland City University. In the eight years since receiving my Master s, I have worked as a math teacher and more recently as a Tutoring Supervisor. I also coached basketball and track & field for multiple seasons. I was in 4-H growing up, and although I dabbled in a few other project areas, my primary focus was showing swine. I was also involved in sports (primarily cross country and basketball), and still very much enjoy playing sports and being active. I also enjoy playing board/card games with family and friends, and like being involved in my church. I love watching college basketball, and nothing beats going to Purdue games with my dad and cheering for the Boilers. I was born and raised in Indiana, so it shouldn t come as much of a shock that my favorite professional teams are all nearby the Reds, Colts, and Pacers. Please don t hesitate to ask me questions, offer me your ideas to improve things, or to show me your animals or projects. I m always up for chatting sports as well, and you can try to explain (wrongly) why IU s basketball team is going to be better than Purdue s this year! Thank you again for so warmly welcoming me. Regards, Nathan Grogg Nathan Grogg, Extension Educator 4-H Youth Development Healthy Living Tips Did you know June is National Dairy Month?!? Due to the H5 avian influenza virus the Indiana State Board of Animal Health has decided to prohibit commingling of birds from different locations, including shows, exhibitions and public sales. You will still be able to complete the Poultry project by turning in your record sheet. "The emphasis of the 4-H projects is in all of what the young people learn about their animals," Aaron Fisher said. "Showing and selling certainly are valuable experiences, but the greater value of 4-H is the overall learning experience that comes with raising and caring for their animals on a daily basis." We would like for 4-H members to take pictures of their poultry project to showcase at the fair in the poultry barn. We ask that the pictures be no larger than 4X6. If you are wanting to do an educational poster on the Avian flu you are welcome to do that as well. As far as entering your poultry project into Fair Entry, as stated above, you do not need to do this since you are no longer bringing your animals to the fair.
