Insert Upcoming Livestock Workshops... Back Non-Livestock (Static) Project Workshops Saturday, April pm New for this year...non-livestock (static) project workshops! Static is defined as non-breathing exhibits. The workshops will be held in the Exhibit Hall (Fairgrounds) at 708 S. Union Street, in Auburn. There will be two workshops running simultaneously, one in the large room and one in the small room. Each workshop will last approximately one (1) hour. There will be a workshop on the changes to the Foods project for the 2015 project year, as well as a workshop explaining our new Beekeeping project. Sue Stoops has agreed to teach a workshop on the Garden project and there will also be a Sewing project workshop. For those interested in taking the Verbal Communication project next year, there will be a session on the basics of public speaking. The schedule is still being finalized. You are welcome to participate in any workshop, even if you are not enrolled in that project. It s a great way to find out if you may be interested in that specific 4-H project! Mini 4-H members in 2nd Grade are also welcome to attend. *A final schedule will be posted on the DeKalb Co. 2 4-H Youth Development Highlights from Lynne Wow! I can t believe it s already April! I hope you will make the time in your busy schedules to attend the workshops your livestock superintendents and I have worked hard to coordinate. There s a list on the back page of the April and May livestock workshops and what they will be covering. IMPORTANT DATES: Remember that if you don t attend a workshop, you will be receiving a worksheet in the mail that must be completed and returned in order to exhibit livestock at the DeKalb County Fall Fair. 3 4-H Youth Development DROP-ADD DEADLINE IS JUNE 1 If you add or drop a project online, you must also contact the Extension Office so that we can get you the proper manuals, if needed! Return any project manuals you don t need in ORIGINAL condition! Don t write in the manuals until you are sure you are going to keep them! Camp Date: June 8-10 Camp Registration: Due May 20 to the Ext. Office Camp Cost: $130 Campers: Grades 3-6 Location: Camp Mack in Milford, Indiana This year s theme will be A Night at the Fair. Be sure to ask your camp counselors about all the fun things they are planning for camp! Camp Counselors from DeKalb County are Leah Hefty and Logan Worman. Reminder...Master Gardener Mini-Grant for 4-H Garden Members The DeKalb Co. Master Gardeners are offering a $25 mini-grant to any 4-H Garden member, who may not have the resources to purchase seeds and basic equipment to grow the project. If you are interested, stop by the Extension Office and fill out an application. The deadline is June 1 st. Club Officer Training There will not be an Officer Training in 2015, due to the poor attendance and high cost associated with the event. Updated officer packets will be given to each club to be used in training their officers. Flower Sale The 4-H Flower Sale is on for 2015! An order form is enclosed with this newsletter and will be published on social media and our website. Order forms will be due May 8th in the Extension Office and pick up will be May 21st! Again this year, clubs will share the proceeds for flowers sold 50/50 with Council. If your club is selling flowers as a fundraiser, make sure that the club name is on the order form so you get credit for that order. Is your club looking for a creative, new service project? Look no further -- CANSTRUCTION is here! DeKalb County 4-H clubs are invited to participate in CANSTRUCTION! The Community Harvest Food Bank will give groups who participate a $500...donation to purchase canned food items for use in the competition. In 2014, Fort Wayne was ranked 5th in the country for most cans donated and the donated cans were able to provide roughly 66,880 meals into the local community. 4 4-H Youth Development Rabbit Ambassador Sunday, June 7 2 pm -- Exhibit Hall Sponsored by AG Plus and Honor Show Chow If you are a 4-H Rabbit member and you want to show what you know, this event is for you! You ll demonstrate your showmanship skills, take a written test about rabbits, and identify rabbit breeds. You will need to bring your own rabbit to use in the showmanship portion. Whitley County 4-H Family Workshop Thursday, March 26 6pm Whitley County Fairgrounds Reminder: If you are exhibiting a purebred barrow, papers are required. Mini 4-H Opportunity Mini 4-H ers in 2nd Grade are invited to come to any 4-H livestock or non-animal project workshop. It s a great way to learn about projects you may be interested in taking next year. PREMISE ID REMINDER If you intend to show cattle, sheep, swine or goats, you will need to get a BOAH Premise ID# by going to and follow the instructions. Color Me Green 4-H dash We will be having a One-Mile Fun Run at the end of July, complete with color powder to toss at the participants! If your club would like to help on race day, let Lynne Wahlstrom know at the Extension Office!
