Please remind your members to contact us if they are interested in attending and have not submitted their survey form. Character Focus: Decision-Making Decisions happen quickly, but the results can last a lifetime. Ethics help by providing a code of values to help us with choices and actions. Ethics is a question of What is the right thing to do? The right thing to do isn t always the easy thing to do. Learning to say no when you feel like saying yes builds character. It's hard. You ll have to think and you may have to give up some things you want. How do we make good decisions? Before you do or say anything, think how the decision will affect the people who will be touched by it. We call these people stakeholders because they have a stake in the decision. Do the least amount of harm possible. -Don t sacrifice integrity, reputation and honor for expediency. -Core ethical principles (trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship) are ground rules, not just factors to consider. -Be courageous. -The long run outranks the short run. When you still can t decide, go with the choice that will produce the most good for more people. Measure all of your decisions by these ground rules. Leader Scorecards As the school year comes to an end, we would like to recognize our outstanding leaders. The Leader Scorecard is attached to the back of the Update. Please take a moment to fill it out. Leaders can either nominate themselves or nominate another leader from any school club. These scorecards are due in the 4-H Office by April 14th. Looking forward to some great scorecards! Please, only one leader per scorecard. More than one name will disqualify the scorecard. Those leaders chosen as Outstanding Leaders will be given the opportunity to attend the Southern Region 4-H Leader Forum. Old / New Business The attached old and new business are not mandatory, but are suggestions to use during the meeting so that members other than officers can participate in the meeting. It is important, however, that EACH club discuss business at EVERY meeting. You can create some of your own or if your club is discussing a service project, have members create discussion on a project, make motions and second their suggestion to conduct a project. That part of the meeting is worth 20 points on the Club-of-the-Month Scorecard. Feel free to discuss any business that needs to come up before the group. These attached forms are there to help the club get started. Be sure to use only items that pertain to your club business. Page 3 4-H Leader Update
