3 Top News Pursuit Starts in Hugo End in Eads By Chief Mar shal Jesse G. Schier Press Re lease On Au gust 29, 2015 at about 9:35 P.M., the Hugo Mar shal s Of fice at - tempted to con tact a ve hi - cle for a traf fic vi o la tion. As soon as the Dep uty Mar shal ac ti vated his emer gency lights, the sus pect ve hi cle sped off and be gan flee ing from the Dep uty Mar shal. The Hugo Mar shal s Of fice called for as sis tance from the Lin coln County Sher - iff s Of fice, Chey enne County Sher iff s Of fice, Ki owa County Sher iff s Of fice, Limon Po lice De - part ment, Col o rado State Pa trol Troop 3D, and Col - o rado State Pa trol Troop 2C. The pur suit reached speeds in ex cess of 100 mph at times. The sus pect was taken into cus tody in the Town of Eads with out in ci dent. The sus pect was iden ti - Pur suit reached speeds in ex cess of 100 MPH fied as Carver Bell, 21, Mis sis sippi. Mr. Bell was driv ing a sil ver Mer cury Grand Mar quis. A search war rant was ex e cuted upon the ve hi cle, and a large amount of mar i - juana and an UZI pis tol was seized as ev i dence. Mr. Bell was brought back to the Lin coln County Jail on fel ony charges, with a $100,000 cash bond. This in ves ti - ga tion will con tinue through out the next few months, while law en - force ment at tempts to trace the mar i juana s or i - gin and des ti na tion. A high light for the pre-teens was to hear Jade Artzer a 14 year old girl from Goodland, Kan sas, who has had her own busi ness since age 11 ½. Jade makes and sells 11 fla vors of dry quick break mixes that all a cook needs is a can of soda pop or beer to mix in the dry mix and a bak ing pan. Mean - while, my air con di tioner con tin ued to hum mer rily along. When I had to peel off the first layer of sweats and switch to iced cof fee, it hit me. The fan was humming merrily along, but the air con di tioner was be ing a bit con trary. It was n t run ning. At all. I called my trusty re - pair man right away, but had to leave a mes sage. Af ter sev eral days, he called me back, want ing to come out that af ter - noon. Fab u lous! Ex cept for one small thing. No one was home, so he was locked out! An other week of phone tag and cold cof - fee, and fi nally the door - bell rang. It was in ter est ing to watch four teams: Swink, Fowler, Wiley, and Eads play in foot ball scrim - mages Fri day eve ning. This Fri day, the Eads Mid dle and High School stu dents will com pete in volleyball and football games in Eads be gin ning at 3:00 p.m. On Fri day of the County Fair they will travel to High Plains. The week of Sep tem ber is Home com ing Week. I heard the com mu nity Rally will be on the football field. two of them! Jack pot!! Two could fix it in half the time! I started to cry, hugged them both and sent them right to the roof. Af ter about an hour, the door bell rang again. I opened the door and show ered them with con - fetti. Then one of them be gan to speak. The good news-they found the prob - lem. Three mice had at - tached them selves to the motor and kablooey! The bad news, they did n t have ev ery thing they needed to fix it on the truck. Whaaat?! I thought my head was go - ing to spin around and pop off! I started to cry again and gave one the broom and the other the dust pan to sweep up the con fetti. The res i dents at Weisbrod were de lighted to have young Vic to ria Christopherson and Ella Split ter help them turn hymn book pages when they came from Sheridan Lake with Pas tor Vir gil and Bonnie Christoperson for Cha pel Sunday. The week be - fore, we en joyed hav ing Pas tor and Margie Beard come for Cha pel service. The Fair Board met again last week to check fin ish ing touches for the County Fair Activities for next week, Sep tem ber 9 to 13.
