3 Top News Eads Ad vances to Cham pi on ship Game Af ter Nar row Win Over Peetz By Rhonda Uhland Well as we all know it s not who scores first, it s who scores more and Eads did just that in a roller coaster ride last Sat ur day af ter noon as the fans got to watch the most ex cit ing game of the 2014 sea son beat ing Peetz in a nail biter, Al though it was n t Eads best game the win does ad vance them into the Cham pi on - ship game next Sat ur day in Arickaree with a 1:00 p.m. start time. Down 16-0 with 1:46 left in the 1st quar ter, the Ea - gles man aged to get on the score board with a 42-yard touch down run by Dylan Dixon and a suc - cess ful kick through the posts by Rea gan Lane. This would be the last of the scor ing un til 1:47 left in the 2nd quar ter when Peetz QB, Bradey Holtz fielded a nice pass into the end zone for a 7 yard touch down to Cody Wil - son. The ex tra point was added when Holtz found their kicker, Casey Barrett open for a pass right in side the goal line. Eads bat tled down the field on a Rouse/Dixon pass for 26 yards and then a Rouse/Mitchek pass for 14 more yards be fore Dixon took it in again from 25 yards out. Lane was un able to get the ex - tra points. With a nice kick off by Fred Turner and an out - stand ing tackle by Dixon, the Bull dogs were sit ting on the 8 yard line. They tried to run the clock out by tak ing a knee un der cen ter but Eads coach, Dustin Uhland had a dif - fer ent game strat egy so he called a time out. Next play un der cen ter the Bull dogs went with a pass play and found Eads Dixon on the 23. Rouse passed to Caden Parker for the 23-yard touch down and Lane added the PAT. Eads was now within one point, With this mo men tum Eads came back at half with a 38-yard run by Rea - gan Lane for his touch - down and then he booted the ex tra points giv ing Eads the lead for the first time in the game. Eads forced Peetz to punt on Eads Dylan Dixon and Rea gan Lane go af ter Peetz QB, Bradey Holtz. (Rhonda Uhland Photo) their next pos ses sion but a yel low flag gave it back to the Bull dogs. Next play it was run ning back, Jor - dan Nel son that cough it up giv ing Rea gan Lane the op por tu nity to pick it up and run it to the 6 yard line. Sound too good to be true for the Ea gles, it was, be cause an other pen alty flag was tossed and it brought Eads back to the Eads 37. Rouse was able to get 22 yards on a nice run and now Peetz was on the re ceiv ing end of a yel - low flag mov ing it for ward al low ing Dixon to take it across from 9 yards out. Lane missed the PAT but Eads was ahead Peetz an swered back right away with a 71 yard kick off re turn by Bradey Holtz but their kicker, Barrett was un able to get the PAT. Eads QB was then in ter - cepted and Peetz cap i tal - ized with a touch down pass, Holtz to Wil son for 46 yards and the ex tra point was a Holtz to Barrett pass to knot things up at 36. Eads con tin ued to paint the field yel low and the Bull dogs were scor ing again on a 1 yard carry by Nel son and Barrett kicked in the PAT. At the end of the 3rd quar ter Eads was again trail ing, Eads would score within 9 sec onds in the 4th, get ting a 53 yard sprint by Dixon and Lane helped things out, ty ing up the score at 44, get ting the PAT. Rouse kept Peetz from scor ing get ting an in ter - cep tion and tak ing it out of the end zone to the 1 yard line but Eads pos - ses sion was short lived as Peetz had their own in ter - Af ter catch ing a Rouse pass, Trent Mitchek runs the ball for a 1st down fight ing off Peetz de fend ers. (Rhonda Uhland Photo) cep tion giv ing them the ball on the 15 yard line. Peetz QB was pres sured but af ter elud ing the de - fend ers he found Garrett Roelle in the back of the end zone for a 5 yard pass giv ing the Bull dogs the last points they would score. Eads drives down the field with the clock tick ing and with a hard tackle to the ground Dixon is un - able to hang on to the ball and Peetz is back in con - trol. The de fen sive stance now was cru cial for Eads and they were re lent less forc ing the punt in 4 plays but they would be start ing on their own 24 yard line. Eads was pa tient and worked their way back down the field with the run ning backs, Lane and Dixon car ry ing the ball. Set ting on the Peetz 18, it was Dixon that got the call to take it over but he had to go through al most ev ery de fender to get there. Rouse was able to help out keep ing the run alive and Eads was look - ing at a tied score once again. The fi nal PAT was all that they needed to take the lead. With a time - out to dis cuss ev ery sce nario pos si ble, Eads was send ing Lane out with his spe cial shoe on to put it through. No pres - sure, no gain and Lane was un wa ver ing as the kick was per fect. Eads was lead ing by 2 points with 45 seconds in the game. It was all im por tant to keep it out of Bull dog s Holtz hands, so Turner went for the left side on the kick off. The ball went through the first line men and was just in the grasp of Cody Wil son but Rea - gan Lane sent him back in the op po site di rec tion and the ball went float ing through the air. Both teams rushed to cover but it was Eads Dixon that was on the bot tom of the pile and he was n t let ting any one get at it. Eads was able to run the clock out with Rouse tak ing a knee be hind cen ter and as the buzzer sounded it was the Ea gles that would be play ing in the Man State Cham pi on ship game against the Arickaree Indians. 6 Veteran s Memorial Dedication By Roland Sorensen The Vet eran s Me mo - rial, at the Road side Park, was ded i cated to all Vet - er ans on No vem ber 11 at 11 a.m. There were a lot of peo ple and com pa nies that were in volved in mak ing a dream come true. It all started with our County Com mis sion - ers plac ing money in their bud get to pay for the Me - mo rial. Once the bud get was es tab lished a com - mit tee was formed to get the ball rolling. The plan ning com mit - tee was com prised of Dick Scott, Bill Koehler, Don - ald Oswald, Peggy Dunlap, Ron Healy, Do ris Lessenden, Areta Laird, Terry Laird, John Jacobs, Pat Roper and Roland Sorensen. A plan was de - vel oped for the base of the Mon u ment, the flag pole, the light ing and the mon - u ment stone. The base Hav ing elec tions over means not hav ing to hear an noy ing com mer cials nor get ting cam - paign phone calls. For me, it means the end to a de light ful sea son of get ting to talk to many of you who live in the county. I ap pre ci ate so many of you ask ing for yard signs and your encouraging words. I look for ward to work ing with you to have better ac cess to prod ucts and ser vices and for busi nesses to be able to work through regulations. We should feel priv i leged to have cho sen to live in Ki owa County. Thank you for tak ing the time and ef fort to vote and giv ing me the chance to be a Ki owa County Commissioner. Cindy McLoud was con structed by Mil - ton Watts and Nestos Castillo and the pole was do nated by Merle Shalberg and con structed by Ron Healy and Monte Stum, us ing parts pur - chased and do nated by Thun der bird Pe tro leum. The Ea gle on the top of the pole was do nated by Brown Fu neral Home in mem ory of Ki owa County World War II vet er ans Ray mond Frazee and the late Joe Schmitt. The Eads City Coun cil was in volved with the de - ci sion to place the Mon u - ment at the Road side Park. Once the Flag pole had been con - structed, Allen Wade Watts took the pole to JR Oil Ser vice in Chey enne Wells and had it sand blasted and painted. Jay Haase with SECPA raised the pole for us.
