It was never more apparent to me than this past weekend in Port Aransas. Fred was sailing in the Harvest Moon Regatta at Lakewood Yacht Club. The race is from Galveston to Port Aransas. I drove down to pick Fred up on Friday after work. Early on Saturday, we met the rest of the crew at the boat. We had already begun to hear about this amazing boat that finished in record time. Come to find out it was Chris Croninger from LCYC. His elapse time was 11:15:23. Great Job, Chris. As the day wore on we kept running into more and more LCYC members. All in all, I think there were around 20 or so LCYC members at the Dinner and trophy presentation. It was great to see so many members out supporting sailboat racing in Texas. It was also great to be away from home and yet feel so at home. Wurstfest is only a couple of weeks away. If you haven t yet figured out what you can do just get in touch with Lynn Simpson. She knows all the spots that need filling. It is amazing how much fun you can During Wurstfest remember to be good hosts. There will be many people who are not accustomed to our rules. If you see someone violating a rule, make sure you are most gracious if you need to help them understand. Let our guests pull their boats first. They have a boat to pack and in most cases a long drive home. Help when you can and always make them feel welcome and planning to come back next year. The Nominating Committee has been hard at work finding members who are willing to spend one Saturday a month at Board of Governors meeting. This committee is also charged with finding a Vice Commodore for next year as well. Start your plans to attend all our December functions. The annual meeting will be Dec. 3. Reservations are limited. If you want to attend, you will need to make reservations as soon as you can. Dec. 6th is the final Keelboat race date of the year. It will be followed by the Commodore s Grog. I am researching Grog recipes now. Dec. 7th is the final Commodore s Grog for the year and the final race date for Boardboats. New Year s Eve is the final event for the year. There will be an informal party that night. There will be more details to follow. As you can see Dec. is busy and you need to plan on attending. So, sync your calendars and make your plans. 2 Wurstfest Boat Launchings Jean Junker During the Annual Wurstfest Regatta (Nov 4th-Nov 6th & Nov 11th- Nov13th) LCYC will deploy Launch Ramp Crews to assist and supervise the launching and retrieval of boats during the event on both weekends. In preparing for a Safe, Fun and Efficient launch and retrieval process we wanted to remind our membership about the process and ask for your continued cooperation during the event and to remind everyone of several items that will facilitate our and your enjoyment during the Wurstfest weekends. The upper dry parking areas of the club grounds generally are taken over by car, trailer and camper parking during the event. Anyone who has a boat parked to the east of the entry gate is encouraged to get their boats launched early (on Friday if possible) to prevent getting your boat blocked in. Additionally, the dock & grounds crew will be blocking off the launch ramp parking area at noon on Friday so please do not park any cars or trailers in this area; we need the entire space clear for rigging of board boats and for traffic control. SAIL CANYON LAKE! The first few sections of the dock at the ramp will also be blocked off as a reminder not to tie your boats in this area. If you launch early, please move your boats into the lagoon parking areas or toward the lake end of the docks. After racing is completed please be considerate about where you sail into and where you dock your boat. If you don't plan on pulling out immediately then we ask that you keep to the lake end of the docks to facilitate us pulling out those who are leaving and perhaps allow us to give priority space to our out of town guests who have a long drive. The maneuvering around idle boats at the dock during haul-out is the single most important factor that slows down the entire haul-out process for everyone. The Launch Ramp Crews generally do a great job of keeping everyone safe and expediting the launch and haul-outs and controlling traffic and boat retrieval order. Your understanding of our process and cooperation is much appreciated. Have a Fun and Safe Wurstfest Regatta! Wurstfest Camping There will be no camping in front the of lighthouse due to the relocation of the septic system. Please locate your camp in designated areas on club grounds. Texas Boat Registration Information Steve Edlund Texas Parks and Wildlife may be visiting our docks and slips by year end. There is potential for being penalized by TXPW if your boat registration is not current. Here is a summary of the registration requirements. All motorboats and all outboard motors must be titled, including sailboats 14 feet and over in length Effective January 1, 2004, vessels documented by the U.S. Coast Guard are required to have state registration Boat registrations are valid for a two-year period Thank you for your assistance. 3 WurstfestRegatta Lynn Simpson Wurstfest Regatta I - Boardboats & Centerboards - November 4-6 Wurstfest Regatta I I- Keel Boats & Multihulls - November LCYC is ready to roll out the red carpet for the 48th Annual Wurstfest Regatta. Registrations over both weekends are looking good with 41 entrants for WFR I, and 20 entrants for WFR II. The numbers for both weekends will continue to climb! Of interest for WFR I...the RS Aero is really making its debut. This performance single handed boat boasts 14 entrants so far. That number, I am certain, will continue to climb. Of interest for WFR II we have 2 foiling catamarans that will be competing. Spectators for each weekend will be in for a treat watching these performance boats race around the respective courses. Food, glorious, food! We have some delicious meals lined up over both weekends. A hearty breakfast will be served each morning. A delicious dinner of Kiolbassa sausage with all the trimmings is on the menu for Saturday dinner. Sunday lunch will be the last of the WFR meals; I have it on good authority that chicken salad is on the menu for both weekends! LCYC is well known for its hospitality and good food. The two weekends of Wurstfest Regatta will be no exception. There is a great line up of raffle items for both Saturdays, make it a point to check out the raffle items early! Entertainment on Saturday evening for WFR I & II will be provided by Jazz Blues and Diamonds. Volunteers, so many of you have reached out to help, we are in great shape. Thank You. 4 Fall Work Day Lynn Simpson and Dave Sanford For the October 15th work day, approximately 30 volunteers came to lend a hand with the different projects lined up for that morning. According to property manager Joseph Scherm, 90% of the projects were completed! Painting, shrub trimming, parking lot restriping, floating dock demolition, and the list goes on! The galley team; led by Port Captain Anu Day fed the work day folks a delicious breakfast and lunch. Thank you to Anu and her Gold Crew: Joe O Brien, Carolyn Harris, Mary Lindsey and Sue Radley. Thank you to all of the volunteers: Jack Mogab, Bill McVey, Harold Simmons, Chris & Debbie Fogle, Bruce Dunn, Bog Godlewski, Rick Walker, Glen Graham, Christopher Watze, Fred Day, Bill & Ann Cook, Roger and Terry Beasley, Margaret McGill, Elizabeth Bentzen, Bill Clark, Hans Kohler, Wilson Tarver, Chris Nichols, and William Lyssy who took time out of their Saturday to lend a hand with getting LCYC ship shape, for the upcoming Wurstfest Regatta. The Docks and Grounds crew have been busy readying the club for Wurstfest. Resuracing of the dock A walkway has been completed. Port Co-Captains Anu Day & Margaret McGill Last month we reported that the shrimp boil was in the works. It was a huge success! If you were there you know what I m talking about. If not, be sure to mark your calendar for LCYC social events for next year (and the rest of 2016), and enjoy your membership benefits to the max. Thanks so much to shrimp boiler extraordinaire Ed Booth, Ed and Georgina Taddia, Dee and Rick Minerva, Elizabeth Bentzen, Mary Lindsey, Ray and Kathy Leubner, and Phil and Emily May. On October 8, Joe and Lonna O Brien and Carolyn Harris fed about people following keel boat races. The next day, Stacy and Steve Wilson, Jack Mogab and his guest Leticia fed about 60 people at the Commodore s Breakfast. On October 15, breakfast and lunch were served to volunteer workers by Joe and Lonna O Brien, Carolyn Harris, Sue Radley, Mary Lindsey and Anu Day. Susie Boedeker and Sue Radley will feed the board boat racers on October 23. All these events, and we are still gearing up for Wurst- Fest! If you haven t had a turn in the kitchen, be sure to do your part and sign up for something. Our sincere thanks go to everyone who has volunteered in the kitchen. The kitchen has been cleaned out in preparation for WurstFest activities. If you are hosting an event, be sure to check the supplies we already have before purchasing something. If you can t make it to the club to do inventory, check with Margaret or Anu. Wanted LCYC is looking for a special person or persons to take on the role of Port Captain for 2017! If you are a team player, enjoy planning and organizing, preparing and cooking (with help of course) a variety of meals for a crowd, then we need to talk! But we need someone to be in charge to recruit and coordinate all the volunteers and do a few recurring jobs, such as stocking the kitchen and communicating with club members via and the Ditty Bag. 5 Adaptive Sailing Bill McVey My sincerest thanks to all of you who volunteered to help with our Adaptive Sail outing Saturday 10/1! After having just 4 boats signed up seven days beforehand, 12 more boats and skippers and crews joined in the following week! You can't imagine how wonderful it was to get this kind of response, I'm just sorry we couldn't "employ" everyone! We had 33 guests from Door-in-the-Wall Texas signed up to attend this time (31 to sail), and it has been normal for 2 or 3 families to not show up for one reason or another. This time seven people weren't able to attend. In addition, one wheelchair-bound lady who did attend and is quadriplegic as a result of a recent car accident, at the last minute was just too afraid to try to get on our boats, so she and her two family members left before sailing. This left us with 21 guests to sail which required 9 of the 11 boats we had ready to sail. I know it was disappointing to the crews of those two boats not to have anyone to take out. My apologies to them, but there is just no way of knowing for sure. The plan for our next outing (May 2017) will be to load those two boats first! After a brief orientation to sailing, we had a wonderful hot dog lunch provided by our A- galley team of Carolyn Harris, Lonna O'Brien, Sue Radley, Mary Lindsey, and of course, chief griller Joe! It turned out to be a very nice day except for the lack of much breeze but everyone managed to find the few zephyrs that came along. Luckily our guests didn't seem to mind at all, they were just delighted to be on the water with us. Thank you all for providing the opportunity to our guests for a fun day sail on Canyon Lake. They are always very appreciative of you, and of our club in general, for providing this wonderful opportunity. I'd like to ask all our club members to thank those who volunteered their time and talents.
