A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis Super Swimmers Congratulations to the children who represented BBPS at the Cronulla Zone Swimming Carnival last week. The children were outstanding ambassadors for our school, showing great sportsmanship, supporting their teammates and doing their personal best in the pool. We were all very proud of them. Thank you to Mr Fisher and Mrs Nakkan for their efforts. Thank you to the many parents who came along to support our children. I am so very proud of our school. Assemblies Last week we commenced our K-2 and 3-6 Assemblies. Our K-2 Assembly is held on a Thursday afternoon at 2:20pm and our 3-6 Assembly is held on a Monday afternoon at 2:20pm. Both Assemblies are held in the school hall and parents and grandparents are always welcome to attend. The school hosts a special whole school Assembly at the end of each term. Further information will follow closer to the date. P&C Executive Positions for 2018 It was wonderful to see parents attend our P&C meeting on Tuesday evening. Special thanks to our outgoing members and congratulations to our 2018 members of the P&C Executive Team. They are P&C President: Craig Bulmer P&C Vice President: Nerida Alexander P&C Vice President: Tanya Howison P&C Treasurer: Melinda Whippy P&C Secretary: Samantha Hill Thank you to all the parents who attend our P&C meetings and put so much energy and dedication to Burraneer Bay. We make a great team! 2019 High School Applications for Year 6 Students All High School Expression of Interest forms need to be returned to our school office no later than Friday 16 March to ensure the school has enough time to process them, before they are submitted to the high schools. We ask that you complete the forms as early as possible so that we are able to contact you if there are any omissions or errors. K-2 Eggshibition A big thank you to all the families who have taken a box of Easter Eggs to sell or who have donated money as part of this P&C fundraising initiative. The school will be hosting an Eggshibition for K-2 students on Thursday 29 March. Information regarding this event was sent home last week and is included in this newsletter. Easter Egg Alternative Parents, if your child is allergic and cannot eat Cadbury chocolate from our big eared furry friend we ask that you supply a small alternative treat. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide alternatives for the children with various medical needs. Please see your child s classroom teacher regarding the matter. Forgive others, not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve peace. Warmest Regards, Ms.V.Pantelis Jonathan Lockwood Hule - Author Page 2

3 DEPUTY PRINCIPAL S REPORT Dogs in Schools The following article has appeared in three of our newsletters this term. Please help us by carefully reading this and following our instructions. It is very important that we continue to revisit areas that impact on student wellbeing. Despite our requests, on Friday morning we had three dogs tied to the front fence of our school. A reminder to all members of our school community that as determined by local government policy, dogs are not to be on school grounds or within 10 metres of the school. This rule has been made to ensure the safety of all students. Our office staff have had to remind a few people about this rule again this week and the feedback they received was not encouraging. No dogs are to be brought onto the school grounds No dogs are to be tied up to the school fence while you come into the school to drop off or pick up your children School Gates To ensure the children s safety, the school gates are locked each day at 9:20am. They are reopened at 3:00pm. The school can only be accessed by the front office when the gates are locked. When the K-2 assembly is on, the gates will be opened at 2:15pm. We ask that you wait until the gates are opened before you come into the playground. While we do love having the pre-schoolers visit our school, they do need to be under your watchful eye at all times. For safety reasons, pre-schoolers are not allowed to play on the adventure playground equipment in the Kindergarten play area. This area is to be used by our Kindergarten students during school hours only. It is not to be used as an after-hours play area. Radio Station 6FM Our very own radio station run by Year 6 called 6FM went to air for the very first time in The kids loved it and have been asking Mrs Millar all year to bring it back. Our K-2 students gravitated to the music - dancing and singing along. In 2018 this will be a weekly event every Thursday recess. Thank you to Mrs Millar for coordinating this wonderful initiative and to Year 6 for their enthusiasm and commitment. Operation Art Nominations : Reminder Student workshops will be held at Cronulla PS from the 9 th -11 th of April. The process for enrolment is REALLY SIMPLE this year as it has been left up to parents. All students are invited to enrol. It is an exciting day of art making with a professional artist and teacher that students love. Information detailing Operation Art nominations is included in this newsletter. Page 3

4 Year 6 Tanken Centre Excursion. This term all Year 6 classes have visited the Tanken Centre at Kirrawee High School to experience a day of Japanese culture, language, food, games and lifestyle. From the minute the students arrived, only Japanese was spoken. It is amazing how quickly they learnt to communicate and understand what was happening. The students participated in games, quizzes, interviews and enjoyed an O Bento box for lunch. Year 6 have been learning about different countries in Asia as part of their Geography studies this Semester. Their day at the Tanken Centre was a fantastic way to experience a culture very different to their own. Page 4

5 CANTEEN NEWS : FRIDAY VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY REQUIRED Dear Parents, The canteen is experiencing a shortage of volunteers on Fridays. If anyone could please assist for either the 9-11am shift or for an hour and a half between 12:30 and 2:00pm (when you get to see your kids) we would greatly appreciate it. Please see Catherine or Lauren in the canteen if you can assist. Thank you. K-2 Eggshibition and Assembly The K-2 Easter Assembly will be on Thursday, 29 th March, 2018 at 9:20 am. After the assembly, the K-2 Eggshibition will be set up under the Infants C.O.L.A. Please do not send your child s eggshibition in before Thursday, 29 th March. We have nowhere to store it and we would hate for it to get damaged. We ask that on the day of the Eggshibition you bring the exhibit to your child s classroom. NEWSFLASH : The word has spread that the Easter Bunny might pay the children a visit. If your child has any allergies please speak to your child s teacher so that other arrangements can be made. What is an Eggshibition? It simply means that Eggs are on Show. You and your child design a scene which involves an egg ( a plastic egg, a hard-boiled egg, a foam egg, the shell of an egg, a chocolate egg, a plasticine egg, a lego egg). Your child can decorate the egg and place it in a cardboard box or on a tray or in a cup. Together, you can design a scene from your favourite movie and the main characters are the eggs. Or you could recreate your favourite characters or soccer, eggs going to the beach. It is up to you and your child s imagination. The opportunity to attend the Creative Arts Camp is offered to Year 5 and Year 6 students who are in the Senior Choir, Senior Band, Year 6 Dance and Extension Dance. The Creative Arts Camp has always been a huge success in previous years and this year s camp will be even bigger and better with 2 full days of intensive workshops. The Creative Arts Camp is a wonderful experience for the children. It aims at increasing the enthusiasm of the children, developing their confidence and fostering in them a passion for the Creative and Practical Arts. The camp provides the children with the opportunity to excel in singing, dancing and playing. The children participate in a range of workshops and activities that enhance both their musical and performance skills. The Creative Arts Camp will be held from Monday March 19 th -Tuesday March 20 st, 2018 at The Tops Conference Centre, at Stanwell Tops. In keeping with tradition, the camp will conclude on the Tuesday evening with a combined concert for parents that will begin at 7pm. World s Greatest Shave at Burraneer Bay : Hairdressers / Barbers Urgently Required We are having our very own World s Greatest Shave on Thursday March 15 th. 12 students from Year 6 have nominated to have their head shaved. At this point we have had only one hairdresser volunteer. We urgently need additional support to be able to shave the heads of all these students. PLEASE contact the office by tomorrow if you are able to help. We encourage all of our students to participate in Burraneer Bay s Greatest Shave and fundraise for a very worthy cause. On this day, students will be able to wear their hair in a crazy hairstyle or come to school with their hair coloured. Page 5
