The Banker Christmas Special The Briefest of Overviews As it s Christmas we thought we d give you a little bit of hockey related reading while there s no actual hockey going on. You ll find your captain s roundup of your team s season (if we could track them down!) as well as all the stats from the season so far. And being Christmas, we couldn t leave you without a bit of light-hearted fun, so we ve got the DoD leaderboard and lookalikes to help cheer you up while you wait for the winter break to end. The only stats available to me are from league games: DoD Holly Harcus 4 Charlotte Nicholls 3 Ashleigh Carr 3 John Moloughney 3 Rupert Till 3 Jack Coulson 2 Owen Davies 2 Christina Woods 2 Nick Fletcher 2 Hannah Strudley 2 Simon Statham 2 Top Scorers Nicola Connell 16 Jo Chappell 13 Alex Knight 9 Jack Coulson 9 James Cozens 8 Rachel Drohan 7 Colin McGregor 6 Jill Freeman 6 Thomas Jarratt 6 Owen Davies 6 Will Galloway 6 Fantasy Hockey Position Manager Team Points 1 Nikki Hilton Tapes Terrors Amy Izzard Blizzards Rupert Till Techno Prisoners Tom Dowden Chewie s Champions Matt Collinson Bring on the Wall Dave Denver Dave s Raves Edward Ide Rawhide Rovers Steve Brook Ardleigh Athletic Graham Seaton Umpirical Utd Chris Thomas Mighty Ducks 317
Captains Column Men s 1s It's been a piece of cake for the men's 1st this year. Won loads and drawn 3. Unfortunately York have found it even easier as we currently sit 2 points behind the North Yorkshire side. I think we'll probably overtake them though because we're all Bankers aren't we?! We are also still in the cup which resumes in February. Howay the lads. Men s 2s Men s 3s The 3's have had a good start to the season picking up some good results and coming close in almost every game played. Having thrown away some points from strong positions in the opening few games of the season, drawing our first 3 games 1-1, the 3's have bounced back well and are currently sat 7th in the table. With a still unbeaten home record, the 3's are looking to continue their good work into the second half of the season, hoping to avoid a late relegation battle that has become so common for the 3's over the last few seasons. Most notable for the team this year has been the spirit shown in every game, both in fighting for every point, while making sure that the game is played in the right spirit.
Men s 4s Men s 5s Men s 6s Men s 7s SUBHC 7s, sometimes known as the magnificent 7s, have had a mixed season! Having started off with a game against the 6s, it was widely agreed, though never specifically stated, that we should let them win because they needed the confidence boost (poor Knightrider)...since then we ve experienced an interesting season recording 3 wins and some losses. We beat Brigg though who the 6s lost too...lol, so we must actually be better than the 6s! I'm gonna say that the team really missed the presence of captain Windu who was struck down by some bloke from Brigg (reports suggest that it was indeed Weightman's uncle who was responsible) but actually, I don't think the team missed me that much, especially after the tactical masterclass decision made to move Statham to centre back...i'm thinking of full time management...competitive rates offered, look me up! Seriously though, it's been fun! Great bunch of chaps keen to play some (sometimes) decent hockey together, and have a beer together as well!
Ladies 1s Ladies 2s Been an amazing season so far - Started off with a huge squad and have picked up some really good new players as well as some previous players. New bankers 2s players: Jo Chappell - who has been a goal scoring queen and has one of the most spacious cars! Hannah Strudley (Strudders) - Who has also been a goal scoring queen - scoring a hatrick in her 2nd game with us and providing us with MORE than enough reasons to vote her DOD and being great entertainment. Lauren Barney - used to play for bankers a while ago and now playing 2s - been a solid defender and very quickly worked brilliantly at the back with fish, izzy, nips and guzzle. Helen Fifer (Storm) - Been a fantastic player in the middle - great fitness and skills. Mena Read - Been a fab forward and recently discovered also a great defender! Also known for some entertaining pub snogs on nights out - photos all enjoyed on our bankers 2 watsapp group! Kirsty Saunby (Impulse) - A returning bankers player - awesome skills in the middle and of course famous reverse hit strikes. Rachel Macqueen - Our FAB goalie - Managed to play 6 league games without conceding a single goal! had some training from tape in training and been a new and very welome addition to our team. Previous players: Fish, Guzzle, Nips, Hound and Izzy - all solid defenders - worked really well together this season. Fish saving a fair share of goals on the line and izzy making solid tackles as always! Guzzle has been my partner in crime on short corners using our usual drill of her injecting me hitting it and her finishing it with support from forwards on the post. Nips forcing players down the sideline and being a consistent defender. Jill - running around like a mad thing as always never out of energy and always making leads and runs. So far the 2s are undefeated and top of the league! Everyone has played really well together especially considering all the new players to get used to playing with and having a big squad to manage. Not to mention - Mojo and Mongoose and Lady and Debbie from the 1s who have played for us a few times and helped us out. Especially mongoose who has given us her fair share of goals already!
Can t forget a mention to Palm tree who has been amazing with our training - Mace also has been running our training sessions and both have come up with some really decent drills and kept our motivation going. Palm tree has given up lots of his time on weekends to come and run our bench as well as look for improvements and things for us to work on in training which has helped us massively. Ladies 3s The ladies 3s season has been going well so far. To quote Paps it is going 'sensationally'. We had a spell at the top of the league, which has never been achieved by the 3s before. So of course we are all in high spirits before the Christmas break. Lookalikes! Harry Potter & Tom Weightman Mesut Ozil & Jack Coulson Barry Chuckle & Owen Davies The Pope & Steve Brook
Try as I might, I couldn t get rid of the blank page at the end, so here are a couple of pictures of Garth who isn t actually dead, but is infact moving down south so won t be at the club when the season resumes in January! Have a very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year!
