This terms special mention must go to the Girls Varsity Football Team for completing wins in both the ISAC and ACAMIS events and playing such great Football in the process. It has been a wonderful season of sport and everyone is already looking forward to Rugby, Netball, Tennis and Primary FOBISIA coming up next. Kind Regards, Mr. James Townsend Director of Sport

The boys were eager to get the gold medal after finishing runners up last year. It was very enjoyable to see the boys play some excellent Handball! The B-team worked hard and despite not making it through the group stage can be happy with the good character they showed throughout. The A team flew through the group stage and semi finals beating teams in impressive style. Then came the final in which a motivated Dulwich A-team was ready to do battle against BSB who are always very competitve. After extra time in a incredibly close encounter Dulwich won 6-5 and could pick up the first place trophy with big smiles all-round. What a game! What a victory! Well done to all the boys for a great day. A Big thanks to Mr Wolfe for coming and coaching too. Ms Klaudia Tomaszun

JUNIOR SCHOOL HANDBALL U11 Girls Tournament Report: The girl s teams arrived in high spirits after singing very badly on the bus journey to the event. The group stages were very competitive. The B-Team had their work cut out against some strong sides from WAB and BSB and although they were eventually unlucky to miss out on finishing in the top 2 places the girls can be very happy with how much they improved during the day. The A-team also found the group stage very competitive and after big wins against CISB, DSP and WAB 4 the girls drew with Harrow and BSB and lost to WAB 1. This meant that there was a three-way tie for 2nd place and Dulwich went though on goal difference. In the semi final the girls had to play the winners from the other group BSB Sanlitun and the girls put in a fantastic performance to win 3-2 and make it to the finals. The final was a re-match with WAB 1 who we narrowly lost to 4-3 in the group stage. The game was incredibly close and it was Dulwich who were leading 2-1 with 3 minutes left. However, Handball is never over till the final whistle, and WAB came back to score three late goals, and deservedly win the game 4-2. The girls deserve great credit for the hard working commitment they displayed throughout this event. Caterina Bossi must get a special mention for scoring so many fantastic goals which earned her the player of the tournament award. Huge congrats all-round and a big thank you to Mr. Flanagan for coming and coaching too. 4 U14 BOYS BASKETBALL U14 Boys Basketball v ISB Tuesday 18 February Match Result: Loss DCB 25 ISB 37 Match Report: The game against ISB was a tough lost. We started off quite badly and were down by the first quarter by then some of us already thought that we were going to lose, but in the second quarter we were able to pull it back and by half time we were only down by 2 points. It was the third quarter where had lost the game, from a lead of 2 points. ISB s lead exploded to double digits the reason for this was a mixture of tiredness and a fairly new team. In the fourth quarter we gave resilience fight but weren t able to win. Timothy Chua U14 BOYS WIN ISAC FINALS The 2014 ISAC Basketball for the U14 boys was a great success taking home the championship trophy. It took place at BIBA but hosted by DCB. We swept the round robin matches beating British School Of Beijing and Harrow. In the semi-finals, we faced Western Academy of Beijing who had quite a strong team but with our great performance, we successfully made it to the finals meeting our rivals from last year, International School Of Beijing. ISB were champions at the 2013 ISAC and the 2012 so their team was expected to be very strong. We struggled through the first half being down After changing up the tactics made by our student coaches Ringo and Joe, we slowly got back into our game. With perseverance and teamwork, we came back from losing the match by 8, into winning the game by 4, becoming the U14 Boys Basketball ISAC champions. What a great season. Ben Wong

U14 Girls Basketball v BCIS Thursday 27 February Match Result: Win DCB 32 BCIS 2 Match Report: The game against BCIS was truly successful, our team wining by a whopping 31 to 2 points. All through the game our team was concentrated and enthusiastic, letting the opposition only score a single basket in the whole game. We were able to perform multiple different plays and tactics, mostly successfully. It was an extremely fun a great way to end the day. Every player performed superbly, yet the obvious woman of the match was Sue Vern: scoring an unbelievable three-pointer in the last quarter! Sophie Li U14 GIRLS BASKETBALL U14 Girls Basketball V CISB Thursday 6 March Match Result: Win DCB 47 CISB 4 Match Report: The U14 s girls basketball team played a very exciting game against CISB. This game helped us to prepare for the ISAC tournament. Every player was very excited and nervous before the game. During the game, players did their best. We scored 20 points in the first quarter by getting many of the fast breaks to work out. Our goal for this game was to try our tactics, but it didn t really work out. A few players got to try and shoot a three pointer, although they didn t manage to get them in but it was a good try. We won the game overall, the score was 47-4; we did a very good job. Sally Lu Match Report- U14 GIRLS V BWYA The game against BWYA was a fairly intense game. Everybody tried their best and we won a great victory of Although the opponent only had 6 players, they were very physical but we kept our good work up and followed the coaches advice excellently. We tried new tactics and formations such as the triangle where the guard dribbles up the ball and passes to either a tree or another guard then finally passes to a tree inside the key that is open and makes an easy shot. We were collaborative and had great teamwork. It would be even better if we had better team spirit but I believe everybody did their best and enjoyed the game. U14 GIRLS Exchange Report Our first game was against TIS. We started off really well scoring lots of rebounds and layups. We were winning until about half way through the final quarter. Unfortunately we couldn t get back from it. So it ended up being to TIS. Our second game was against CISB. We played well through out the match with lots of baskets scored. Lots of people scored and we were very strong in defense with only one basket being scored. The game ended with the score A great win for us! U14 Girls Basketball v Harrow Tuesday 25 February Match Result: Win DCB 25 HISB 9 Match Report: On the 25 th of February the U14 girls attended a friendly match at Harrow. Between the coaches requesting copious amounts of rebounds and the players on the bench creating a friendly vibe, we managed to pull off a score of With the quarters of the match flying by like our point guards we put the ball in the net. From the bench we watched our teammates leap across the gym and intercept the ball from the unsuspecting opposition. On the court we ran until our faces were red and as a team we played a great match. Not to mention that super girl Sue vern took a slam-dunk from the free throw line while leaping over not one but two defenders. Alice Hawkins Our final game was against IST. Our defense and rebounds were especially good in this game. Again only a couple baskets were scored. Another good win from us with the score ending with U14 GIRLS RESULTS: versus ISB win versus HISB win 25-9 versus BCIS win 31-2 versus CISB win 47-4 versus BWYA win 29-4 exchange versus TIS loss exchange versus CISB win 38-2 exchange versus IST win 35-4

U14 GIRLS BASKETBALL ISAC FINALS 2 nd PLACE On the 19 th of April, Basketball Coach Mr.Kelly told the U14 girls to start off strong and that is exactly what we did. We started our first match with precision and accuracy almost everyone scoring a basket during the game. In the end it paid off with a 45-8 win over IST. The second game was against our largest competition in our group, the Western Academy of Beijing. Before the match, assistant coach Falco Wang took us through some plays and with some excellent passes by Winona Wong and Sue Vern Lai we were able to execute them with ease and get through their defense, succeeding in a win. After winning our last group match, we headed off to the semi-finals against TIS. We had lost to them during our exchange and we knew this was going to be a tough match, but this just pushed us harder. Alice Hawkins fought TIS s tallest and best player and was able to grab the rebounds and put them right in the basket. After a very tight 24 minutes we ended the game winning Being in the Finals meant playing against our strong rivals, the International School of Beijing. We fought for first place every minute, Aisha Taylor setting strong picks against players and Tanya Pretorius creating space, but this wasn t enough and after a grueling last quarter ISB won I would like to congratulate all the players of this team; you all played amazingly and even though we didn t win, we tried our best and that s all anyone can do. Captain - Akhina Gaches

U13 GIRLS BASKETBALL ISAC FINALS 2 nd PLACE This year's ISAC Basketball tournament was extremely memorable. We achieved a second place out of four teams, narrowly losing to ISB in the finals Along the way we beat Harrow 26-1, and WAB Our success was a team effort that everyone contributed too, and all of our 12 players performed extremely well. A big thanks to Coach Anderson for all his guidance too. Thanks, Marianne Lu

U13 BOYS BASKETBALL U13 Boys Basketball v ISB Tuesday 18 February Match Result: Loss DCB 21 ISB 29 Match Report: Without a doubt, we were all ready to begin the season with a fresh start, a friendly match against ISB. After the bus ride, we got warmed up. Remembering what we have practiced over the last training sessions, we applied those skills into our plays, and started off well. The game was very tight, and we tried our best. It finished as, Even though we didn t win, it motivated us to try harder for the remaining season. This game boosted our confidence and was a very good start to the season. This time ISB didn t have many shots away from the hoop but they had close shots or they get rebounds and then put it back. This time no one ever gave up at any point of the game, everyone tried the best they can throughout the whole game. Just like every other game we played the best defense and offense we can, we ran through the plays really well but unfortunately the results were always as good as we thought it would be. The game ended with and top scorer Matthew Hobson. Wayne Chen U13 Girls Basketball Results ISAC WAB 26-1 win over Harrow 27-8 win over WAB 7-11 loss to ISB 9-15 loss to ISB for the championship

U12 BOYS BASKETBALL U12 Boys Basketball Today we won our first friendly match by three points. The score was In the first quarter, we got an early lead because we are much more superior at offense. But our defense needs improvement. Our two coaches: Harry and Steven kept trying to stop chasing the ball and mark your man. Our opponents caught up at half time. In the third quarter, the two teams just kept trading the lead all the time. Straight into the final seconds we were down by one and we scored. We did it! The opposing team still had a chance though. We finally picked it up on defense and got the ball. We win it. The finial score is What a game! Kevin Shen U12 Boys Basketball v ISB Tuesday 18 February Match Result: Loss DCB 18 ISB 30 This match against ISB was tough but we tried our best. In the first quarter we were beat badly and we were tired out. But we did not give up. We kept trying and we finally scored. We were back in the game. In the second quarter our player Tyler Shift was the hardest worker. He helped us catch up to a few points behind. But in the third and forth quarter we were tired but Tyler and the team kept trying. But against a strong team ISB we lost with honor and most importantly. We had lots of fun. Kevin Shen U12 BOYS ISAC FINALS: On the 19th of April. Dulwich finished in third place in the tournament. The first two teams that we played against were easy to beat. We beat them convincingly. When we then went up against ISB we lost by a few points. In the fourth game when we were down by 11 in the third quarter we took a stand and won by two points. Not bad for our first tournament. Kevin Shen

U12 Girls Basketball U12 Girls Basketball v Harrow Thursday 27 February Match Result: Win DCB 10 HISB 4 Match Report: On the 27 th February 2014, the U12 girls travelled to HISB for our first game of the season. Our coach, Mr. Hermans, came with us, and gave us reminders of the layout and tactics throughout the game. Our offence was great, star shooters, Natalie South, Alyssa Lam, Dana Han, gained us many quick baskets throughout the match. Our defense was strong, sprinting back to the halfway line, to our side, as soon as HISB gained the ball, as well as having strong shooters; we had great defenders, who swiped the ball away from HISB in a blink of an eye. We played confidently and well, and finished the game with a hearty good game and an overall score of 10-4, a win to DCB. A great start for the U12 girls basketball season. 13 BOYS FOOTBALL ACAMIS Report: Varsity Boys Another fantastic tournament hosted at Dulwich College Beijing filled with highs and lows, memories made and friendships renewed. Excitement and anticipation ensued as the Varsity Boys football team headed into the annual ACAMIS tournament, despite it not being the first for most of our team members. We were fully aware that teams from all over China would prove tough oppositions in the few match days ahead. The boys got off to a flying start: with four victories out of our first five matches, we headed into the semifinals sitting at the top of our qualifying group. A commanding and hard-fought victory over QSI guaranteed our spot in the final against UISG from Guangzhou. Ultimately, an impenetrable defense and hardworking midfield proved too much for our boys, as we fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of UISG in the final. Nevertheless, we were proud to claim a well-deserved second place. The team would like to say a massive thank you to Coach Townsend, for another great season and for leading us to our second successive final, to the PE department for organizing such a successful event and to everyone who came out to support us during this tournament. CO-CAPTAIN - Pratcha Sananvatananont

BOYS FOOTBALL Journal Entry- ISAC Saturday 12th After the unsuccessful campaigns undertaken in Phuket and the Dragons Cup, the U19 Varsity boys would participate in the highly overwhelming ISAC tournament. Featuring in the second pool, DCB would be drawn against the likes of other schools such as CISB, THIS, TIS. The first match on that Saturday morning, would be against CISB, where the Dulwich Boys started with a strong XI featuring C. Chua, BJ, Brian H., and Sam Ross as the back four playing in front of Goal Keeper Sam Kronick. The midfield included Harry R., June Kim, Diego Morro, and Patrick Koy, with the likes of Jan Vlcek and Bjorn up front. This starting eleven would be the most common formation played in the ISAC tournament. DCB managed to lead the first game with a comfortable first half goal by striker, Jan Vlcek, which ended up being the decider. Following CISB, THIS would meet Dulwich in what would be a promising encounter. Off the get-go, DCB was in front 3-0, with goals by Jan (2) and Brandon. The defense remained largely unchallenged throughout the match and found themselves constantly supporting the midfielders in a game where Dulwich would go on to win 4-0. Traditionally, Dulwich never performs well in ISAC but with the promising start in the round robin, things were looking bright. The last match against TIS, saw Dulwich win 3-0 easily, as the semifinals awaited. Dulwich was paired up against Harrow. The dulwich midfield controlled the ball and created chance after chance but the goals were not coming. Finally, a powerful shot by Harry R. steered Dulwich in what would be the final. However an amazing shot by a Harrow player leveled the scoring in the first half Despite numerous efforts, the second half and extra time remained goalless, penalties approached. The first penalty flew over the bar for Harrow and a cool finish by Jan put DCB in the driving spot into the final. Penalty after penalty, Dulwich needed one more to progress. Ultimately, a calm finish by Diego from the spot took Dulwich into their deserved ISAC final. The final match was DCB facing the German School, the winners of their respective group. A quite first half was followed by an intense second half where tackles, counter-attacks, and debatable referee decisions prevailed. In the dying moments of the game, where extra time seemed only inevitable, a Dulwich goal appeared out of nowhere. Shortly afterwards, a slick finish by Jan in the dying moments of the game, saw DCB sentence the match as well as the tournament. Final Score: 2-0 Dulwich- ISAC 2014 Champions Diego Morro (Co-Captain)

GIRLS FOOTBALL ISAC REPORT Saturday the 12 th of April, a mixture of the Varsity and Junior Varsity girl s teams made their way to Harrow International School to take part in this years ISAC tournament. The daunting sight of our opponents made everyone quite nervous at first, but all players plunged through their butterflies and soared to a victory coming out on top; beating Harrow and DSP, thrashing IST with a 7-0 win and drawing against TIS securing the largest trophy. Everyone showed excellent talent and perseverance; Rebecca Zhu keeping a clean slate for DCB, and Rachel Hsu, Monica Wu, Anni Lipponen and Thalia Dudek becoming this tournaments women of the matches due to their fiery determination and outstanding persistence. Captain - Rebecca Svantemann

VARSITY GIRLS FOOTBALL THANK YOU FROM YOUR COACH Firstly, congratulations on your brilliant victory at ACAMIS. We scored 21 goals in 7 games, and conceded only 1. And what was even better is that we played brilliant football throughout. It's great to see the huge improvements in both your individual games and team performances. We also managed to use 9 different goalkeepers which just goes to show how much of a team effort it really was. This has been my favourite season as a coach, without doubt. It was a privilege to coach such a committed group who always play for each other. It has been so much fun. It's a huge shame that it was so badly affected by pollution, but also brilliant to see that you didn't let it affect your positivity, as you all remained dedicated throughout the season. We were excellent in Phuket and so unlucky to finish 3rd after a record of 5 wins and one draw. One poor game in Dragon Cup meant that we didn't quite fulfill our potential there, but we made up for that setback with emphatic wins in both the ISAC and ACAMIS tournaments. Well done to Rebecca, Googie and Caroline for finishing as top scorers in ISAC, ACAMIS and in Phuket. Finally, a huge thank you to our inspirational Captain, Googie, who has played her last match for Dulwich. She has led brilliantly throughout the years as both a Captain and a fantastic player, and I know she is proud to leave behind such a talented and committed group that are destined for much more success in the years to come. Good luck to everybody who is leaving Dulwich at the end of this academic year I hope you all continue to play and enjoy Football. MR PAREKH

TIGERS WAB JUNIOR VARISTY BOYS FOOTBALL Before the tournament, we were both scared and optimistic: we knew that ISB, WAB and BSB were all strong JV teams but we were still confident in our abilities and team spirit. Our first game against ISB displayed remarkable teamwork and resilience as we beat them 2-1 despite trailing in the beginning. This was followed by another wonderful 2-0 win against BSB, a team that we drew when we matched up last time. Coach Burns constant motivation and inspiration was an important factor of our wins. The next day, we competed against WAB twice for the glory of first place. It was tight and tough. Unfortunately, we lost in the penalty shootouts. Although we unluckily hoisted the second place trophy, we learned and enjoyed so much from this tournament. The future is bright for our team. CAPTAIN BRIAN CHIEW

GOLF FOBISIA K.L EVENT Seven students from Dulwich (Jeremy Yau, Wilson Wong, Ben Wong, Martin Li, Nicholas Li, Michelle Yeo and River Kim) ventured to the warmer climates of Kuala Lumpur to take part in the FOBISIA Golf tournament featuring many of the big schools in South East Asia. Results were as follows: Ben Wong Individual Boys Champion Boys team 2nd Place Boys and girls team 3rd place overall. Ben Wong Longest Drive To all students, we will be looking to enter this competition again next year, so any golfers out there Get putting. MRS TOWNSEND & MR ARCHER

DCA Games Suzhou By Alissa Gao The DCA Junior School team travelled to Suzhou last weekend to compete in the annual DCA Games. They were greeted with stormy conditions but this did not dampen spirits as they headed out for some pre-competition training. An early night followed in readiness for the start of the tournament. Day 1 began with the Swimming Competition. Suzhou s beautiful new pool provided a fantastic venue to show off DCB s swimming strength. The team finished in a well-earned second to a dominant Shanghai. Special congratulations to Grace and Whalen for their efforts in the pool. After lunch our somewhat soggy team were meet with even wetter conditions out on the track where the team gathered to begin the Athletics Competition. DCB couldn t have got off to a better start with victory on the tough cross-country course. After a hard afternoon of running, jumping and throwing the team won multiple gold, silver and bronze medals and finished in a very close second to Suzhou. The race of the day goes to the girls relay team. They were in third place going into the home straight but Reiko s super sonic last leg saw the team finish with gold medals around their necks.

DCA Games - Suzhou Day 2 saw the start of the Football Tournament, the final event of the Games. Two girls teams and two boys teams laced up their boots and headed out onto the field. Well done to the girls red team who finished third and boys black team who finished as Champions. The Games were a great success. Well done to all the competitors you made your coaches very proud. A final big thank you to Mr Loft, Mr Alford, Mrs Richards and Mrs Townsend for taking us. Lions for life!
