(Read more info in newsletter article.) Club Merchandise is available prior to each monthly meeting 6:30 7:00 p.m. Reminders- All events using the Club distribution to advertise, or committing the Club to a requirement, need to be coordinated and approved through the 1 st Vice President. This helps ensure event conflicts does not occur. Conflicts sometimes may be allowed to occur, but only after evaluation by the 1 st VP. All Chairpersons for events where funds are committed must provide a pre-event financial and status report to the Board (at least one Board meeting prior to the event, but at least 30 days in advance is requested). This helps ensure the Club is not committing funds that will exceed monies received. Reports-Walt Jenkins reported successful Cone Zone Autocross with great weather. Trophies were distributed to eager first-timers. Tom Ury s father, a WWII veteran, received a warm reception at the WWII Aviation Museum. It was a successful tour and GEM lunch at the Fox & Hound. Governor Rik Noring announced several upcoming events. Check webpage calendar for most up-to-day information. Check out the Friday night drag racing starting May 24 th. Join the caravan from the Corvette Center. Regional Competition Director Walt Jenkins reported current proposals at the National level. It is not a done deal, but promising. It does require a passing vote on all of the proposals for any of them to pass. Waiting for a passing vote from the Governors: Classes Combined: A/B, CDEFG, C5/C6/C7 Lower age for riders to age 12 instead of age 16 (Thanks to Jeff McCutcheon for pursuing this recommendation) Novice drivers can ride with instructor drivers, even if instructor driver is an entrant High Speed licenses will require 40 autocrosses within 5 weeks Pagosa Springs- Tom Hoeppner requested $125 advance for the Pagosa Springs Sept. 21 st event. Approved. Laser Printer The Club is looking for an unused laser printer someone would be willing to donate to the Club. It will facilitate report printing at autocrosses. The April 23rd ladies luncheon was at the newly remodeled Golden Bee, a Colorado Springs landmark at the Broadmoor. No weather weenies in this bunch. In spite of the early morning snow, we had 6 ladies in attendance Jane Creighbaum, Anne Silvers, Gwenda Valentine, Vicki Ury, previous member, Gwen Hatchell, and Denise Phillips. Vicki Ury says.. A year or two ago, Patty Strauch approached me with an idea for the ladies of the club. She thought it might be nice to offer an opportunity for the girls to get together and talk about whatever, even if it might be Corvettes. As a result, we have the CSCC Ladies Luncheons. We meet at various restaurants around the area every other month or so; sometimes on a week day other times on a Saturday. I make every attempt to announce the next luncheon two to three weeks in advance via . I do ask for an RSVP so that reservations may be made. On to the important part, I would like to ensure all interested parties are receiving my s regarding the luncheons date, time, and place. At this point, all CSCC s are delivered to the primary club member. If you would like the AutoX luncheon notification School sent & to Cone another , please send that Driving new to me at tfury@comcast.net and I will add it to my Zone Autocrosses Instructors luncheon group. April 20 th started autocross season for Jay Valentine, our Our Club. next We CSCC had Ladies reserved Luncheon the Pikes will be on Saturday, Ron Bauer June 22 nd at 11:30 am at the Antler Creek Golf Club, Roger Miller, Creekview Grill located in Falcon, CO. An will be Larry Valentine sent at the beginning of June. John Ames To the Valentines in the passing of Gwenda s father. Thank you so very much for all of your kindness during a sudden and difficult time. Our family was touched by the flowers from our friends in the Colorado Springs Corvette Club. The flowers were beautiful. Dad was 91. Mother and Dad had been married 71years. He was one of a kind and we will miss him greatly. Thank you for the cards, calls, and offers of help while we were out-of-town. Thank you, Gwenda and Larry Page 3 of 8

4 AutoX School & Cone Zone Autocrosses Article by Tom Hoeppner April 20 th started autocross season for our Club at the Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR). The parking lot on the west side of the track was used to conduct a 3-section Jay Valentine, Ron Bauer, Roger Miller, Larry Valentine, John Ames training area for new and experienced drivers. In addition to students receiving expert classroom time from John Ames, our other four instructors provided driving tips and instruction for common types of scenarios drivers would experience in autocrosses. April 21 st marked the date for our first autocross. Not only was the course awesome, driving skills on all levels were demonstrated. The course started with a basic section, and then quickly had drivers go through a Chicago Box where it seemed like everyone had experience with one or more cones. WWII Aviation Museum Tour by Bud Silvers The April 27 th garage tour to the WWII Aviation Museum was a great success. Over 40 members, friends, and family attended. Due to the size of our group, they divided us into two smaller groups. The guides took participants through the three hangars, and paid a visit to Wes Pac Restorations. I believe it was enjoyed by all. We left the museum and moved to the Fox and Hound restaurant where over 30 joined for lunch. Several members took pictures which can be viewed on the webpage. As the day progressed, the value of seat time (experience) began to show. Fewer cones were being hit, and elapsed times started dropping for many of the drivers. We also had a number of first-time auto-crossers, and it was fun to see everyone s smiles as the honed their skills. A special tip of the hat goes to Tom Ury and Kitty Divis who took Club fasttimes-of-the-day (FTD). Thank you to all that contributed to the course design and setup; our registration and timing crew; all the course workers; but especially to the participants. You make an event special. We d also like to say a thank you to our amazing photographer, Amanda Larson. Amanda has dedicated her time and talent for many of the pictures posted on Facebook and the Club s web page. During the May Club meeting, Walt presented 1 st -time autocross professionals, Kat Bitney and Rich Hallum, their trophies marking their first race with the Club. Also recognized, but not pictured, was Bud Silvers (for racing his 46 MG) and Chad Ribisi (for his first ever race). Congratulations to Kat, Rich, Bud, and Chad. We believe Kat also set a record for the most ride-a-longs ever. LaJunta Autocrosses May 5th marked the date for the autocross rescheduled from March (due to bad weather). The unique and very fun part of this event was that it was an event where the Colorado Springs Club supported the Southern Colorado (Pueblo) Corvette Club in this, their first autocross event. Suffice to say, the event went very well, and the participants had so much fun that many hope this is just the start of a great relationship. The Pueblo Club did a great job in preparing the event; setting up the course; and well...just managing everything. A note from Bob Adams (SCCC) by Tom Hoeppner Hey Walt - We got a lot of feed-back from folks at La Junta and all of it very positive, most wanting us to come back real soon. It was very satisfying and fun. You and your club were what made it happen for us and our club has been awakened to the delights of autocross. Thanks so much for the support and partnership. 5 21 st Annual Fun InThe Sun Car Show By Susan Umland On May 11 th the day before Mother s Day we held our 21 st Annual Fun in the Sun Car Show. The weather was great (not too hot, and not too cold) although it was a little breezy at times. There was a great turn out. All the car classes were represented, except, unfortunately there were no C7 s. There were even folks that stopped by just to look at the awesome Corvettes. The wonderful music was provided by Dan Samento during the show. Registration went very smoothly thanks to the team that included Gwenda Valentine who was also was celebrating her birthday that day. Tom Hanon won in his Class, Best in Show, and People s Choice. Way to go Tom! The Team of Judges, led by Nick Renfro was terrific. Unfortunately, this is Nick s last year organizing the judging. Thank you Nick for all that you have done! The judging was completed in record time. One reason for this was the number of volunteer workers that helped this year was one of the highest in recent years. There were a few glitches when the tallying was done, but then there always are. While the results were being tabulated, lunch was provided by Sandy Noring w/some assistance from Patty Strauch & Alta Olejnik. The Noring lunches are always wonderful. Having the car show at the Corvette Center has many benefits and lunch is at the top of the list. Big thanks to the Noring Family. After lunch, awards and door prizes where presented. There were over thirty door prizes. The Grand door prize was Beer for a Year which was donated by Bristol Brewery. The event Chairman was very grateful that Nick Renfro who procured the prize also drew the winning ticket won by Wayne Umland It was wonderful day that everyone enjoyed. Ending the Show ahead of schedule allowed folks to get home in a timely manner. Hope all are looking forward to next year. Same time, same place. Until Next Time.from Stephen & Dara Hobbs Three years ago this summer, Stephen and I were new to the Springs and happened upon the First Saturdays Car Show at First and Main Town Center on Powers Ave while driving our C6. While we were there checking out the show and familiarizing ourselves with the area someone struck up a conversation with us and asked us if we had heard about the Colorado Springs Corvette Club. Before the conversation was over, we d been invited to a Thursday meeting. We made a point of attending the very next one. Little did we know, Craig Wisniewski would be the first friendly face of many that we would come to know and love. The next couple of faces would be our sponsor, Jeff Scott, and Tom and Barb Hoeppner (all members of our extended Air Force family) who generously agreed to take us under their wings at that club meeting at Fargo s Pizza. Craig, Jeff, Tom and Barb set the tone for an amazing three years with the club. We ve been in the military for twelve years now (Dara was raised a military brat ) and we love the adventures the Air Force takes us on, but there is one thing that we can honestly say that we hate. It s a strong word, but it s true, we hate saying goodbye. Saying goodbye to all of you promises to be some of the toughest farewells we ll ever have to make. Colorado Springs will always hold a special place in our hearts because we celebrated ten years of marriage here, ten years of service to the military, and we celebrated the birth of our son, Tucker but another incredible reason why we ve loved this assignment is because of each of you. The Colorado Springs Corvette Club has truly welcomed us in and treated us like family. We will be forever grateful for your hospitality and this great group of people (and cars!) will never be forgotten. The memories are plentiful, happy and sweet from car shows, rallyes and autocrosses, to Pagosa Springs, we have so many terrific memories. A special thank you for allowing us to be part of the 50 th Anniversary Celebration we hope to be happily retired in South Carolina in another 50 years and introducing our grandchildren to this wonderful world of Vettes. We hope we ll always have a small place in your hearts and memories as you look back on these great occasions. Thank you for your friendship and your generosity. It s a small, small world out there so if you re ever in the Washington, D.C. area, we ll be anxious to hear from you. We won t say good bye but we will say until next time and until then save the wave! Page 5 of 8

NCCC SUPPORTS NCM by Barrett Benson Last month I told you of the National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) support of the National Corvette Museum (NCM). I also want to tell you that the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) also supports the NCM. Founded in 1974 by seven Corvette enthusiasts, NCRS is now the leader in gathering and publishing Corvette restoration and historical information. It publishes Corvette Restorer Magazine, the bi-monthly NCRS Driveline Magazine, and the NCRS Catalog. With a $15,000 contribution to the museum s Motorsports Park, NCRS demonstrated its support of NCM by becoming a member of the One Acre Club (described in the May issue of Vette Set). Dana Forrester, an NCRS board representative and famous national artist of Corvette prints, said NCRS has strived to be a leading force in the Corvette hobby and culture, taking a leadership role in the earliest beginnings of NCM. The NCRS will exhibit Corvettes at the museum from May to September The C7 coupe and roadster were the highlights of the April NCM bash. Both will be exhibited at the museum s 60 th Anniversary Birthday event June with GM Corvette personnel presenting seminars. The event is free, but requires admission to the museum for non-ncm members. Credentials for the NCCC convention in Bowling Green the same week are not valid for admission. I will have $10 raffle tickets at the next CSCC meeting for the 60 th Anniversary coupe, the last C6 Corvette coupe produced. corvettemuseum.org NOTE: I m pleased that NCM selected my coupe, the first red 02 off the line, to represent the 2002 year at the 60 th Anniversary exhibit of Vettes for each production year. bsqaured@q.com Distribution List - csccvettes@googlegroups.com To send an to the entire club, use the above link.
