2 February Meeting Minutes The February meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by 1 st Vice President Steve Smith. Treasurer s Report Treasurer Anita Smith reported on the current funds available. January Meeting Minutes There were no additions or deletions to the January meeting minutes. The minutes were approved as printed in the February newsletter. More thank you letters received from Christmas Basket families were passed around for members to read. Thinking Ahead Nick Renfro, chairperson for the Fun in the Sun Concours Car Show scheduled May 13, got a head start on rallying the troops for several volunteer positions for the event, including judges. Opportunities to sign up will be available at the next couple of meetings. Past Event Reports Members reported on recent events. See articles, results and pictures of most events represented in the newsletter. Rocky Mountain Region 2016 Awards Presentation The Rocky Mountain Region recognizes top finishers in autocross, car show, rally, and volunteer. Instead of an annual banquet held in the Denver area, the Regional Officers decided to have the top finishers recognized at their own club functions. Our club function happened to be in February, a cold and in some areas, a treacherous drive on a Thursday night Club meeting. However, with only a few of the top finishers present, the awards presentation took place and all of the winners deserve the recognition. They represented the Colorado Springs Corvette Club all year long at both CSCC events and events throughout the state. They do it for the love of the sport and the camaraderie with fellow Corvette enthusiasts. Some received certificates, some awarded jackets of their choosing. So, in the absence of the hoopla they deserved we say Top Club in the Region Colorado Springs Corvette Club Recognizing Top 15 Finishers Men 1 st Lorren Loewen 2 nd Roger Miller 3 rd Walt Jenkins 5 th Steve Smith 7 th Tom Ury 14 th Doug Cox 15 th John Ames Women 1 st Kitty Divis 2 nd Laurie Loewen 4 rd Vicki Ury 5th Anita Smith 7 th Tanya cox 10 th Shauna Hall 13 th Cindy McCoy Men s Car Show Tom Hanon Women s Car Show Carol Schumaker Men s Rally Roger Miller Women s Rally Kitty Divis Top Men s Volunteer Tom Hoeppner A lot more CSCC members participated throughout the 2016 season. 5 Where Are All The Corvettes? Where is the Chevy Corvette most popular, both in the USA and around the world? We created an info-graphic by collecting data about Corvette owners shopping for replacement parts - and we have an answer! According to our data, the largest number of Corvettes is in Texas, Florida, California, and New York. However, on a per-capita basis, we found that Corvettes are quite popular in Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Carolina, among others. What's perhaps most interesting is that Corvettes are immensely popular in Florida - both on a total volume basis and on a per capita basis! Looking outside the USA, there are a great number of Corvette owners in Brazil, Mexico, and Germany, as well as a sizable number of Corvettes in the Middle East - Iraq, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. Who would have guessed that the Corvette - an American icon - would be popular amongst drivers in the Middle East? Not us! Since October of 2009 What Corvette(s) do you currently own? th Anniversary Convertible; previously owned a 1966, 1972, and 1989 Marital Status? Been married for 47 years How did you meet? The first time they met was in 7 th grade. Joel went with a friend to a church social and Laura was there. His friend was interested in her friend so they all ended up playing pool together. The next time they saw each other was when they were seniors in high school, then seniors in college. They started dating and 3 months later got married. Joel had asked Laura to go to Florida for spring break and Laura said that there was no way her folks would let her go. So Joel then suggested they get married, which they did. They didn t have enough money to get to Florida, however. Where are you from? They both grew up in Mason City, Iowa. After a few years to La Crosse Wisconsin for college, Laura came back to the University of Iowa. They came to Colorado on their honeymoon and picked up a newspaper in Denver. They saw all of the job opportunities in Colorado, went back to Iowa briefly (to get their wedding gifts), and then moved to Denver in Employment? When first moving to Denver Joel worked at Carlson Frink, a dairy and ice cream company). They moved to Colorado Springs in The company had partnered with Sinton Dairy and Joel worked there as a milk delivery driver. In 1987, he and several partners bought Sinton Dairy. He became sales manager and VP of sales and then ran the company from 1998 to 2003 when he retired. Laura worked for Mountain Bell for 16 years. 8 Barrett Benson Corvettemuseum.org Shop Toys The Dictionary defines experience as practical contact with and observation of facts or events. To me, experience is what you learn along life s way, be it technical or human. One of those things I learned along the way is the use of the lowly pizza pan. Well, I d like to come out fully in support of this little guy and here s my reasoning. Like some of us, I have a raw wood workbench top and I d like to keep chemicals and oils from staining it terribly before it s time to replace it. Enter the Pizza Pan! Stored in an easy and quick-to-reach place, it serves as a great item to bring out and: 1. Wash parts on 2. Blow off dust from 3. Drain the oil from the lawn mower (as protection of the floor or table, not to catch the oil unless you have a 6- quart pizza pan) 4. Dump that can full of screws, nails, tacks, Skittles, M&M s, onto it to find just the right one. Then leave all that dirt and dust behind after you pour the stuff back. 5. When the guys come over, it serves as a basic TV tray all you need is a hot dog and a beer anyway, eh? 6. After devouring that 18 sub, don t worry about the mess. Just slide everything right into the trash. 7. Your rich aunt who hates you keeps coming over with that leaky Ford Mustang. No worries. Just grab the pizza pan and slide it right under those brake lines. I keep meaning to remind her to get that looked at. After you re all done, cleanup is a breeze, especially if you have the Teflon-coated pan. If you would like to write an article, or have suggestions for one, contact me at tfury@comcast.net.
