Name Tags - Members and new member sponsors were reminded that name tags are available the next month after new members are voted in. Please check the member check-in desk before each regular meeting to see if there is a name tag that you can help get to the right person. Treasurer s Report Lorren Loewen reported on the fund balances and available funds. September Meeting Minutes With a motion and second, the September meeting minutes were approved as printed in the October newsletter. New Cars- Upgrades & Misc. - Johnny Harris announced they have a new grandson. Lynn Wittrock announced John Gue has a Corvette back in his garage a white 2008 coupe. Jerry Fox has a new helmet Nick Renfro graciously made him offer he couldn t refuse. Sadly, Bob Knowles ended up with a hole in his Corvette seat after a homecoming parade. Vicki Ury reminded everyone, Protect your cars. Roger Miller has been trying out car trailers. Not by choice, but by necessity after a few engine issues. Just an example of how our members help each other out. Pat Strauch gave credit to Mike Neufeld for helping her in a pinch to replace her daily driver. Not a Corvette, but a daily driver bargain none-the-less, a Prius with some dimples. Annual Dealer Appreciation Car Show Report Larry Valentine reported on the September 6 th car show at Daniels Long. Mark Barton thanked the Club for bringing business to Daniels. They are working on a new website, with potential of commercial link with CSCC website. A Corvette clothing boutique is in the works, and Mark reminded us of the December 4 th Club meeting extravaganza he is planning to show his appreciation for the business club members bring to Daniels Long. More details will follow. Motion to Change Charity Initiative Gwenda Valentine presented a proposed motion to delete the required annual charity initiative located in the CSCC Standing Rules and Practice. Instead, the proposal is to make the Christmas Baskets our Charitable Project. Although not required for a change to the Standing Rules and General Policies, the information was distributed, and the vote on the motion will be delayed until the November meeting. (See page 3 of this newsletter for the complete proposal.) In keeping with the annual charity nomination process, a nomination from Jerry Ludke for Urban Peak has been received. Gwenda reported Jerry Ludke is aware of the proposal, supports the proposal, and said he will withdraw his nomination if the motion passes. Judith Gue chairperson for the Christmas Basket project is also aware of the proposal, and supports the proposal. Election of Officers Congratulations to the following officers and board members elected for President: Vicki Ury 1 st Vice Pres: Brian Dahl 2 nd Vice Pres: Rick Mendoza, Treasurer: Paul Thompson Secretary: Gwenda Valentine Governor: Rik Noring Board Members: Lynn Wittrock Lorren Loewen Homecoming Events/Parades- Vicki Ury only a few more homecomings scheduled, and thanked everyone for participating. Christmas Party Vicki Ury requested $275 for the Christmas Party to supplement the fun factor of what plans to be a delightful evening. Motion was made, seconded, and passed. Tom Hoeppner explained that this type of approved expense fulfills the intent of the budgeting process set up a couple of years ago, setting aside specific funds to cover both committed expenses and making funds possible to supplement some member events. Highway Beautification Project Tom Ury will set a date in December for the next adopt-a-highway trash pick-up. (Date set for December 6 th. ) Christmas Baskets Denise Phillips gave a brief overview of the Christmas Basket project schedule, and sent around a sigh-up sheet for members willing to make calls prior to delivery of the baskets. Ray Fullwood donated $250, challenging members to match or exceed the donation. Upcoming Events- As always, check the Events calendar on the webpage for specific information and updates. Good News/Bad News Suitcase Rick Prescott will return the suitcase at the November meeting. 3 Proposed Motion - submitted by Gwenda Valentine I respectfully request your consideration of a proposed motion to do away with the Annual Charity initiative. Instead, make the Christmas Baskets our Charitable Project. It requires only a change to the CSCC Standing Rules and General Policies, deleting in its entirety, Section 1.0 Financial Policy, Item D. The Primary Club Charity (page 13). Justification: The process of identifying a 501c3 qualified annual charity is an extra burden for everyone. In the last several years we have had more controversy, contention and hurt feelings over deciding on an annual charity than any other event or activity the club does. Nowhere in The Standing Rules and General Policies is a certain event or activity required. Not an autocross, car show, rally, garage night, or highway beautification project. For all events and activities, the initiative always comes from the members. More members have an interest, passion, and support for the Christmas Baskets than any other event. It allows direct involvement, we see where the money goes, and in most cases, actually interact with the end recipient. The change would mean no annual vote. Members simply decide how much money, time, and effort they want to give to the Christmas Basket cause. The number of baskets is dependent on member donations, member support in the planning, and the ultimate delivery. No money, no member support, no baskets. As has been supported and successfully implemented the last few years by the Christmas Basket Committee, the Club the treasury has no commitment. Thus, it could remain truly a Charitable Project supported by the members. Implementation: 1. Continue to acknowledge that gifts to the Christmas Basket fund are not tax deductible contributions. 2. Continue to use the voluntary contributions received from the schools, for our involvement in their Homecoming parades, for our Christmas Basket Charitable Project. 3. In addition to normal promotion of the basket project, continue to remind members through the mailing of the annual dues renewal letter that contributions must be submitted by the November meeting, using the Christmas Basket fund final balance, as of the November regular club meeting, to determine how many baskets can be supported. 4. Continue to identify the Daniels Long Car Show net proceeds going toward the Christmas Basket Charitable Project. It would remain a CSCC project, not an advertised proceeds going to some charity. It is CSCC s dealer appreciation event, so members do, and should, be supporting that car show, thus also supporting the Christmas Baskets. Plus, since Daniels Long typically pays for the trophies, there is potential for more dollars in the net profit. 5. Good year, or bad year, the Christmas Basket Charitable Project would be dependent on member support, not the Club treasury. This change streamlines the whole process, does not strap the officers and board members with additional expectations, the Club members maintain control of the money, and share in the very positive end- result. The Christmas Basket Charitable Project becomes an event, with the end- result being what our members put into it in the planning, the contributions, and the delivery. ***************************************************************** The motion is to delete the following section in its entirety. The motion will be voted on during the November meeting. CSCC Standing Rules & General Policies 1.0 Financial Policy D. The Primary Club Charity shall be a local nonprofit organization and designated as a 501c3. Eligible charities shall be registered, and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State. Verification can be done via the Colorado Secretary of State website. If the selected club charity is subsequently suspended by the Colorado Secretary of State at any time during the year, no funds will be distributed to the charity until the charity returns to good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State, if within the same year. (1) Nominations for the club charity shall be submitted in writing (to the Board of Directors) no later than the November board meeting. The Board, by a majority vote, will determine if the nomination may be taken to the membership at the December meeting for a vote by members present. (2) Motions for a primary club charity will be made and voted on at the December business meeting. (3) A minimum of one (1) event will be designated annually as the official fund-raiser for the current year s club charity, and that should typically be done within two months of determining the club charity. (4) A minimum of one third (1/3) of the CSCC dues will be donated to the official club charity annually. The amount will be based on fiscal year renewals and given to the charity at the beginning of the calendar year. For reference only The Colorado Springs Corvette Club By-Laws Article I, 3.0 Purpose: "The general purpose of the CSCC is to encourage planned trips, events and social activities for members of the CSCC; to act as a source of technical information; to establish rules and regulations covering all activities of the CSCC; to provide and regulate events and exhibitions of Corvettes; and to encourage careful and skillful driving on public highways; and to own personal property as individual to the foregoing purposes." 5 Pagosa Springs Classic- Sept 20-21, 2014 The Pagosa Springs Classic offered some fun twists to the normal rallye and weekend. The rallye started on Saturday morning with teams competing with large squirt guns and shooting down some Save the Wave signs in the hotel shooting gallery. After completing that challenge for extra poker cards, teams were sent in two different directions for their 2 nd checkpoint. Depending on the direction teams either competed at the Plucka- Duck, or the 6-card poker checkpoint. Both helped teams get more poker cards with the hope of drawing the overall best poker hand. Special thanks to Gwenda and Larry V., and Vicki and Tom U. who not only helped develop the games, but also practiced them until it was felt competitors would have the most fun. At least that seems like a good excuse for having so much fun planning an event. Congratulations to ALL the competitors, but especially to Anne and Bud Silvers who took home the Grand Champion award for having the best score for the rallye and car show. For fun! New Members, Ray & Linda Fullwood, receiving trophy Color Cruises by Chris Capshaw This year the club sponsored two Color Cruises to allow everybody to participate, regardless of their busy schedules. Timing for the cruises appeared to have been perfect, which allowed all those who participated, to thoroughly enjoy the absolutely gorgeous display of autumn foliage Colorado had to offer. A total of 32 Corvettes participated in the two cruises, as well as a few tag-alongs in other cars and motorcycles. Many times along the route others out enjoying the colors, stopped their gazing to cast their eyes on the covey of Corvettes as they rolled by. All the excitement made everybody hungry and thirsty, so an end of cruise lunch was enjoyed at the Rocky Mountain Brewery in Old Colorado City. 6 News Flash- La Junta Races Sept High Speed Event Saturday Saturday. Timing support for both days was provided by CSCC. Nice weather and good food from Road Kill Catering made it that much more enjoyable. On Saturday, eight CSCC drivers participated in the high speed events. In the first race, Laurie Loewen and Anne Lewis took first and second FTD respectively in a close race separated by only 0.4 seconds. Jeff McCutcheon finished with second FTD behind Jared and Lorren went off road prairie dog hunting. In the second race, the Loewens raced in borrowed cars and Anne missed FTD by only 0.05 seconds. That is how close the competition was! Low Speed 1and 2 Sunday On Sunday, 10 CSCC drivers participated in the "low speed" events. Drivers from Team Loewen raced their C7 and liked it! Dennis Niles raced well both days and won his class in all races on Saturday and Sunday except for the last race of the day when Walt Jenkins edged him out for the class win. Anne dominated with 3 FTDs for the women, yea Anne! Jeff stole a FTD from Jared (DCA) in the first race, yea me! Rik Noring Jr. came on stronger in the last two races, grabbing two class wins and a second FTD. Rik also won the CSCC FTD Traveling Trophy from Jeff, which he promptly and securely seat belted into his car and drove away into the sunset!. by Jeff McCutcheon (Disclaimer not all results printed see CSCC website) Pedro the Prairie Dog narrowly escaped with his head as his home on the prairie was destroyed by an oncoming, and off course, C5 race car owned and operated by Lorren Loewen. Home owners insurance refused to pay for the damage to his home as it was categorized as an act of god and as such, was not covered under his current prairie home owner's policy. Similarly, it is doubtful that Mr. Loewen's auto insurance will cover the damage to his car which amounted to a perforated radiator among other related injuries. Following the incident, wiser prairie dogs evacuated the area for the remainder of the weekend and the Loewens finished the day with a borrowed car and raced their C-7 the following day. In a separate and unrelated story, the CSCC Miller/Divis racing team suffered a second major mechanical failure at La Junta this year. In the spring it was the engine. This time it was a transmission issue. Neither time was it Kitty's fault, but we like to kid her anyway. Fortunately, Roger had a race worthy, less orange, C5Z in his stable of Vettes that they were able to race in the low speed events the next day. The La Junta Auto-X is considered by many racers in our club as a premier event. Pete Urenda and the DCA crew sponsor the open track and high speed events on Saturday and SCCC organized the "low speed" (wink wink!) events on High School Homecoming Season- by Vicki Ury I am happy to say the homecoming season of 2014 was one of happy memories, laughs, and great appreciation. The weather was wonderful no rain or snow. The high school students thought our Corvettes were hot. AND, best of all, each high school contributed to our Christmas Basket Fund. At each of the 9 homecoming events, Falcon, Widefield, Palmer, St. Mary s, Hanover, Mesa Ridge, Coronado, Discovery Canyon Campus and the Widefield/Security parade, the people would ogle each car, asking drivers, How fast have you gone? One dad was heard saying, That car is the best! Someday I am going to get one! The Colorado Springs Corvette Club was definitely well represented throughout our community! I would like to thank all of the club members that so generously donated their smiles, time, and money (gas and car washes). It definitely made my job easier. A HUGE THANK YOU to: Skip Seiling, Joel Haas, Melvin Swindale, Paul Thompson, Kelly and James Zajicek, Diana and Mike Dittman, Pete Olejnik, Bob Balink, Brian Dahl, Bob Litton, Don Anderson, Larry Valentine, Chris Capshaw, Jean Munninghoff, Ray Fullwood, Bob Knowles, Roger Miller, Kitty Divis, Jerry Philips, Jeff and Liz Scott, Rick Mendoza, Tom Ury, and almost a member - Dave Ury,. Thank you to those outside the club: Kathy Morey, her daughter Roxann Hart, Erica Miller driving Patty Strauch s car, Mike Neufeld and Susy Roberts from Daniels- Long. A couple of interesting facts coming from this 2014 homecoming season, there were 9 events, 68 cars involved, with 32 different car owners driving at the events. Needless to say, as a Corvette club we have the BEST! Please check the Photo Album link on our website for a batch of great pictures. Thank you to all for another great homecoming season. See you next year!!! Page 6 of 10

7 CSCC Fall Autocrosses - October 5 Autocross 1 Autocross 2 Autocross Calendar Planning Meeting Sunday November 9th 6:30 pm Tom &Vicki Ury s Valli Vista Rd - RSVP Requested SINKHOLE CLOSURE November 9 th by Barrett Benson As I reported last month, the NCM s Board of Directors decided to completely fill in the sinkhole and return the Skydome to its original configuration. Environmental factors such as temperature and humidity control to protect the exhibited Corvettes, as well as overall cost of keeping the sinkhole open, required more money than originally anticipated. The last viewing day for the sinkhole is Sunday, November 9, Repair work will begin the next day. Designed as a tribute to the Corvette, the Skydome was described by its architect as the tail light assembly turned on its side! When built in 1994, the yellow and red 11-story cone and light tower formed the tallest structure on I- 65 between Nashville and Louisville. I ve seen the sinkhole twice, and the online photos and videos don t do this catastrophe justice; if you have a chance, you should see it in person. But with or without the sinkhole, the Skydome and entire Museum are a great reason to visit Bowling Green! I ll have $10 raffle tickets at the November meeting for a 2015 Torch Red Coupe; drawing on January 29, With holidays around the corner, consider getting some as stocking stuffers or unique Christmas gifts. Whoever said Money doesn t buy happiness, doesn t own a Corvette By Diana Dittman President Vicki Ury: Vicki and husband Tom (a Colorado native) have been members of CSCC for 10 years. Tom and Vicki have been married for 35 years and have one 28 year old son. Vicki is a retired high school counselor and math teacher. She grew up in northern Illinois and came out to Colorado to go to college at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Husband, Tom, always wanted a Corvette (his dream car) so at age 55 he got his first Corvette, a black C5. Since then they ve had a black C6 and currently own a black C7. Vicki says that she likes attending all of the clubs events, but is quite fond of participating in the rallies and auto crosses. 1 st Vice President Brian Dahl: Brian and wife Peggy have been members of CSCC for 2 years. Brian and Peggy have been married for 37 years. They have 3 daughters, ages 35, 30, and 28. Brian is a test engineer for Agilent Technologies. Brian grew up in southern California. Shortly after he and Peggy got married, they moved to Colorado. Brian and Peggy have a 2012 Torch red coupe. Brian enjoys the social events that the club has to offer and he is fond of the charity work that CSCC does. Page 7 of 10

8 CSCC Fall Autocross by Vicki Ury The Autumn Autocross, better known as the Chicks Rule Autocross, was held on Sunday, October 5 th. This was the last autocross on the Front Range for the year. Wow what a way to go out! The event chairs, Anne Lewis, Kitty Divis, and Vicki Ury, added a bit of a twist to the day; encouraging all to wear PINK in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October. PINK was everywhere: hats, shirts, pants, and even some unmentionables! The morning started quite cool. Drivers were a bit frustrated because their tires weren t sticking to the pavement. I believe Walt Jenkins set a record, spinning 1080 degrees. As the day progressed, things began to heat up and times started to drop. The Club s FTD s for the day were earned by Laurie Loewen and Jeff McCutcheon Congratulations!! We would like to THANK all the club and non-club members that worked at the autocross. Your time and efforts were truly appreciated. The girls at registration: Gwenda Valentine, Pam Sherfesee, Barb Hoeppner, Phyllis Ury, and Ann Prescott. The tech guys: Al Cozzetto, John Sherfesee, and Roger Miller. The guys in the grid: Dan Schuck, Jerry Griffin, and Barrett Benson. The folks at the results table: Joy Boland and Lynn Wittrock. The starters: Tom Hoeppner and T.J. Larson. The boys in the trailer (timers): Rik Noring, Lorren Loewen, and Walt Jenkins. The course workers: Anita Smith, Dave Ury, and Rick Prescott. Also, the guys who fill in with everything else that needs to be done like Larry Valentine and Tom Ury. With over 50 drivers participating in a technical course that covered most of the Pikes Peak International Raceway VIP lot, it was a spectacle to see three or four cars on the track at the same time. The cast of CSCC racers included: Johnny Harris, Bobbie and Jim Mesite, Steve Smith, Carol Reel, Walt Jenkins, Rik Noring, Laurie and Lorren Loewen, Tom and Vicki Ury, Larry Valentine, Jeff McCutcheon, Kitty Divis, Anne Lewis, Roger Miller, Jerry Ludke, Wayne Umland, Shauna and David Hall, Don and Cindy McCoy, and Charlie Boland. Dennis Niles also raced on Sunday, he has a great story to tell, something to do with a cloud of dust This was the last race at PPIR for Dennis (at least for a while), he is being transferred to North Carolina we will miss you Dennis. Fruita, CO Autocross by Tom Hoeppner October 12th marked the last autocross of the season for the Rocky Mountain Region. Due to the projected weather, participation was lower than normal. However, that didn't stop a few of the diehards from Colorado Springs. Rik Noring got Club FTDs on races 1 and 2, but Lorren Loewen came through in the final race and claimed the final award of the "Traveling Trophy" for the men. David Hall also gave a valiant effort but the damp pavement just seemed to get the best of him. Shauna Hall claimed the Club FTD on all races, and therefore, the final award for the season. Tom Hoeppner served as Navigator for Lorren and got a few more worker points to help the Club. Vettes and Vampires Golf Classic- by Tom Ury The CSCC event teed off on October 19 th at Cherokee Ridge. This third annual event, sponsored by Tom and Vicki Ury, set a new record attendance of 28 golfers and 7 teams. This is the third year of the event which fielded only 16 golfers the first year. The weather was great for this time of year and everyone received an embroidered golf towel. This year most teams were able to use the new "Ghost Poop" to improve their scores. Here are the awards that people won: First place team: Jeremy Eldridge, Jim Mesite, Vicki Ury, and Anne Lewis with a score of 30 Longest Drive, Women: Kat Bitney Longest Drive, Men: Tom Ury Closest to the Pin, Women: Kat Bitney Closest to the Pin, Men: David Connelly Drive the Ghost Champion: David Connelly Annual Member Roster Update Check Your Personal Info for Accuracy Click here to report changes: secretary@coloradospringscorvetteclub.org Page 8 of 10
